- onClipEvent, on 07/16/2009, -3/+46next up, Facebook and Twitter
- chuckerton, on 07/16/2009, -1/+43Good ***** riddance.
- JollySpace, on 07/16/2009, -1/+41That's been clear since Facebook and Twitter came around.
- sb66, on 07/17/2009, -1/+37Oh you mean the ghetto of the internet?
- 11familyguy11, on 07/17/2009, -0/+34When somebody can stick a red image in the background, with red text in the foreground, music that plays automatically, thirteen videos, and enough color around the outside to make an acid trip at Lego Land look like a black and white movie....it's time to go.
- wikiworld, on 07/16/2009, -0/+20First mover advantage can't beat quality in the long run
- TylerDuhrdan, on 07/17/2009, -0/+19All ***** things must come to an end.
- Dregganaut, on 07/17/2009, -0/+14I bet Murdoch's glad he bought it.
- villainousT, on 07/16/2009, -0/+13Are we talking about websites or medieval times?
- caityD, on 07/17/2009, -1/+13thank god. all that's left is 12 year old girls and perverts.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -0/+12You are the *prime* example of a typical MySpace user. Thanks for proving ultrafeel's point.
- bdbr, on 07/17/2009, -3/+13OK, we get it - personal MySpace pages were generally pretty awful. But what else is there for music? Facebook? Twitter?
MySpace is still a great place to hear a few songs from a new band, and decide if I want to hear more. Where else would bands be going? - lead2thehead, on 07/17/2009, -0/+10But where will I post pictures of my criminal activities?
- grnicon, on 07/17/2009, -0/+9i really miss masturbating to your sister's slutty myspace pics.
- matticusf1nch, on 07/17/2009, -0/+9Nobody goes on myspace anymore, other than to listen to music. Facebook needs to fix that *****.
- Yage2006, on 07/17/2009, -2/+10Myspace was king of entertainment ?
When did that ever happen ? - x713, on 07/17/2009, -2/+10I am glad MySpace may be going away, but I am not that much happier with facebook. They have good privacy features but with the way they handle user data, one can only imagine what they will do in the future. Also, facebook has been getting really slow recently for me. Pretty much unusable, which with its connection to digg it ends up stopping the loading process on digg. I literally have to block facebook.com just to see digg.
- Mjeacoma, on 07/17/2009, -1/+9Facebook isn't much better with all those stupid apps and crap - one day Facebook will also die...
- TheTaoOfBill, on 07/17/2009, -0/+8We certainly don't miss your lame ass music you forced us to listen to. Or your scrolling Justin Timerlake background.
- dreamache, on 07/17/2009, -1/+9When I think of MySpace, I think of an endless amount of "Sorry an unexpected error has occurred." pages
- matthobbs05, on 07/17/2009, -0/+6Bye Tom!
- ultrafeel, on 07/16/2009, -12/+18That has been clear since the first time I was on myspace. What a chaos. What a slow website. How many times my computer crashed when surfing msypace. What a kindergarden. What a narcissitic sick world...
- Danial, on 07/17/2009, -1/+7Who cares? ***** MySpace.
- charm803, on 07/17/2009, -1/+7Myspace should have just focused on the music aspect of it, but instead, they decided to compete with facebook and twitter and add all the crap they did.
They spread themselves too thin, trying to be everything to everyone.
That, and it still looks unorganized. You would think the format would be sleeker by now after all these years. - freshyill, on 07/17/2009, -1/+6Alexa comparison for MySpace vs. Facebook: http://imgur.com/BS5UR.png
Ouch. - Xihix, on 07/17/2009, -2/+7Haha, ***** YOU MURDOCH
- freshyill, on 07/17/2009, -0/+5My time machine is all gassed up and set for 2006. Any other messages I should leave for them?
- Joshislong, on 07/17/2009, -1/+4Youtube?
- EFur, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3No *****?
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3it's because they are trying to hard to push pop culture on everyone when no intelligent person really gives a ***** about all those celebrities like that one emo douche bag from american idol that wears more make up then a common female.
besides, people cram their profiles with a bunch of worthless ***** which really makes myspace far from ascetically pleasing.
good riddance. - Ajajadude, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3Myspace has been the ONE site that never worked properly for me (yes, I'm sorry to have to admit to having a Myspace account at one time). Constantly having to sign in, constantly having to change browsers, constantly visiting profile pages that turned my computer into a cripple until I managed to close the browser, etc.
It's a poorly designed site that looks like it was created in the '90s. - chaos7, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2your comment is way down there where it belongs
- peestandingup, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3True, but if you think the same wont eventually happen to those sites, you're dreaming.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -1/+4To me facebook and myspace are no different than what prodigy message boards, sierra online, xanga, expage, homestead, geocities, yahoo clubs, AIM chat rooms back in their glory days, or govteen all were back when i was in jr high thru high school besides the fact that morons on cnn and other places use it to be "cool" and "hip"
- freshyill, on 07/17/2009, -1/+3I use Twitter, but I find the media obsession with it to be pretty damn annoying. I don't, however, take it out on Twitter. Jeez. Lighten up.
- freshyill, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Everybody's got at least one or two friends on there who refuse to give up. I log in like once every few weeks, and the bulletins and other garbage are all from those one or two people. Don't they realize that MySpace quizzes are a very effective way to annoy people?
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2The exact same thing happened to me- thank goodness for Adblock.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -1/+3so do people that type like you.
- freshyill, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Gee, thanks for that insight.
- yocouchdigga, on 07/17/2009, -1/+3the web's constantly evolving, if you don't keep up and stay relevant, you're going down. pretty simple concept, I would have thought that with the resources Murdoch has, he could have kept myspace relevant... lol pwnt
- freshyill, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2That's assuming they make the same mistakes that MySpace made. Don't think they haven't been watching and studying.
You might think the dot com bust would have taught MySpace a few lessons about how not to die, but unlike the sites that went belly-up back in 2001, MySpace is at least useful and fulfills a need that people have. Sure, there's a lot of foolish money behind MySpace, but this time somebody else is now doing the exact same thing it does--just better.
It's setting a new precedent for how to implode. Past lessons don't necessarily apply. Facebook and Twitter are paying very close attention. - roxgod666, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Twitter never was for entertainment. I don't really know what it is for except stalking celebs and reading sentence long news.
- Rockyn, on 07/17/2009, -3/+4Facebook needs music and videos though. Myspace is a great resource for music.
- tehknotte, on 07/17/2009, -1/+2thats because facebook is better no?
- lorddazzer, on 07/17/2009, -1/+2Its still entertainment for me.
I like watching it crash and burn. XD - mrsteveman1, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Yep, eventually something will come along that will be more akin to email, interoperable and open, in contrast to these top-down services that want to own all your data.
- poxonyou, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1I think they should have overhauled the site before trying to compete directly with other services by copying them. There is so much ***** on Myspace now, but it's completely disorganized. It's still structured the way it was when it first began. Myspace served as a vain version of Geocities, but a very poor true social networking site. FB focused on the social aspect so you easily keep up with and communicate with many people at once. Myspace encouraged people to collect as much friends as possible to prove their value as a person, while Facebook makes it a bit harder to mislead people. If it bothers you popular people have more friends than you, well, make more friends by doing things with your life with other people or stop caring. This article is more about the music portion though. I imagine people moved to other music services that again, are easier to navigate than clunky, vain Myspace pages (well, vain being DJ artists and identical looking boy rock bands).
