- 1704 diggs
- digg it
- IulianORG, on 03/02/2008, -118/+10nice find!
- nlsecurities, on 03/02/2008, -118/+9Very cool
- Mihr, on 03/02/2008, -118/+9Someone showed me this a few days ago, but its still cool.
- Florence44, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1Nothing new in Internet
- PaulOwen, on 03/02/2008, -0/+3Japanese scientists in lab:
"Oh no, it's been shown to Mihr! Our fantastic morphing sculpture invention is no longer cool!"
"What are we gonna do?"
"Hey look guys - on Digg he says even though he's seen it, it's STILL cool!"
...
"YAAAAAY!"
- louiebaur, on 03/02/2008, -118/+8pretty cool
- Audacitor, on 03/02/2008, -5/+40Users stanka, lulianORG, nlsecurities, Mihr, and louiebaur, please go back to YouTube.
- andycr512, on 03/02/2008, -5/+20All five of you are blocked for making -completely- useless and irrelevant comments. If you like a story, press than nice little "Digg this" button. We can read that you liked it in your profile. We get it. You like it. We don't care. Please keep comments to things that -are actually useful-, not "Hey I liked this!!11~".
Only you can prevent useless comments... In the meantime, I will do my best with the block button.- DanOnTheMoon, on 03/02/2008, -9/+2Wow, you're a dick. You talk to your mother like that?
- andycr512, on 03/02/2008, -2/+5I could have put it a lot less politely. To respond to your question, my mother doesn't spam Digg comments, so no.
- DanOnTheMoon, on 03/02/2008, -9/+2Wow, you're a dick. You talk to your mother like that?
- j0313971, on 03/02/2008, -6/+0hey, if it weren't for them, this story would not have become popular. i submitted it twice before and the most it got was 10 diggs. this time, i made good use of shouting.
- bagelpirate, on 03/02/2008, -17/+147Comments 1-5 are ***** useless, as usual.
Where can I buy one of these?- SHv2, on 03/02/2008, -63/+14And your comment was pretty ***** useless too...
I suppose as is my own... *****- bagelpirate, on 03/02/2008, -33/+15I beleive my comment touched on two points.
1) The stupidity of comments such as "Cool!" "Nice Find!!" etc..
2) Inquired as to where one might purchase said magnetic statue, as there is no info on the page.- SHv2, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1I believe my comment touched on two points.
1) The fact that you pointed it out is pretty useless too. It isn't going to change the stupid comments. You wasted our breath just as they did.
2) Everyone's a hypocrite. - mac0Fd00m, on 03/03/2008, -0/+2I'm with bagelpirate on this one. the comment threads on digg get big enough as it is without people taking up page space with 'pretty cool'. If that's all you have, then please don't post.
- SHv2, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1I believe my comment touched on two points.
- bagelpirate, on 03/02/2008, -33/+15I beleive my comment touched on two points.
- DesignEx, on 03/02/2008, -3/+44That is always the biggest giveaway that an article was made popular by shouting it to "friends".
- DesignEx, on 03/02/2008, -1/+11Seems I was right:
http://digg.com/users/j0313971- j0313971, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1you were right
- DesignEx, on 03/02/2008, -1/+11Seems I was right:
- smrekar, on 03/02/2008, -0/+5ferro fluid. you can make it.
- dthmnky05, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1eBay
- Jemulov, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1Actually, I found that the steel part of the JB weld Epoxy (black tube) is magnetic. I was playing with some high-strength magnets around a set of headphones I fixed with the stuff and it leaped from the repair site to the magnet. I put the magnet on both the tubes to find out which one imparted the magnetic properties to the finished product, lo and behold it was the Steel part.
- SHv2, on 03/02/2008, -63/+14And your comment was pretty ***** useless too...
- Lephtovermeet, on 03/02/2008, -3/+38http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrorheological_fl ...
Get more educateder- bagelmaster, on 03/02/2008, -1/+12I refuse
- canthraxp, on 03/02/2008, -0/+8Looking for more about this I found this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpBxCnHU8Ao&feature ...
I must admit that in 1:08 I crapped myself.
- floatingorb, on 03/02/2008, -2/+17That is beautiful to me. I remember reading about the "ferro-fluid" years ago. Back then, they were talking about using it in transmissions for a new kind of tourqe converter.
A description of the stuff can be seen here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrofluid- sangosimo, on 03/02/2008, -1/+3I actually got to play with this stuff at school. It stained my shirt, but it wasn't magnetic...The group in my materials class talked about autotive companies using this in suspension to dynamical change the ride stiffness
- antdude, on 03/02/2008, -0/+4It reminded me of computer graphic demos. :)
- willynilly, on 03/02/2008, -28/+7Too bad YouTube sucks so profoundly.
- 2h3px, on 03/02/2008, -3/+15Too bad you too suck so profoundly. There was nothing wrong with that video.
- j0313971, on 03/02/2008, -2/+1blasphemy!
- jacktiernan, on 03/02/2008, -0/+4I agree with you. It is time to raise the quality of the encoding.
- Himself, on 03/05/2008, -0/+2it is available: blip.tv
even better: encode your own, upload, they serve it
- Himself, on 03/05/2008, -0/+2it is available: blip.tv
- jon30041, on 03/02/2008, -3/+7At first, I thought it was some sort of chainsaw-like thing... I dunno. Ferroliquids (that's what it is, right?) are awesome!
- clownx, on 03/02/2008, -1/+6Yeah, I thought that too. I was looking at it, and watching the "blades" come out, and I just tried to physically imagine how it would be possible. Then I noticed it was in some kind of liquid, a Ferrofluid.
- mchugh22, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1yeah it looks like two giant electro-magnets in a pool of ferrous liquid.
- Sedako, on 03/02/2008, -8/+21Pretty soon I'll have my very own T-1000. Think of how easily my gardening will become! Not to mention, if those pesky neighbor children walk all over my tiger lilies again, I can have it terminate them!
- CATSCEO, on 03/02/2008, -4/+3WTF?
- StMac, on 03/02/2008, -2/+5This is perhaps one of the best comments I've seen on digg.
- Mudger, on 03/02/2008, -22/+4This is the 12th time I've seen this on DIGG.
- dawpa2000, on 03/02/2008, -1/+12Nice achievement
- jolionessness, on 03/02/2008, -2/+21You can buy the fluid here.
http://unitednuclear.com/chem.htm
they call it magnaview fluid- dylio, on 03/02/2008, -1/+5*****, they're sold out of uranium. I guess I'll have to buy my supplies for a WMD capable of blowing up the White House somewhere else.
- hextic, on 03/02/2008, -0/+11Hey moron, that's U-238. That stuff's critical mass is larger than the White House, even in a perfect sphere.
- ryanfaith88, on 03/02/2008, -0/+3I'd like to know where to get some Francium.
- digitalpencil, on 03/02/2008, -0/+2Illegal wiretap now in place
- CATSCEO, on 03/02/2008, -0/+4Ferrofluid*
- Wandel, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1I wonder what it tastes like.
- Jemulov, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1It's probably toxic so...
Tastes like burning...
Tastes like grandma...
*insert Ralph quote here.
- Jemulov, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1It's probably toxic so...
- dylio, on 03/02/2008, -1/+5*****, they're sold out of uranium. I guess I'll have to buy my supplies for a WMD capable of blowing up the White House somewhere else.
- smurf22, on 03/02/2008, -6/+8That was for lack of a better word beautiful.

Glad I could, for lack of a better word, help!- smurf22, on 03/02/2008, -1/+7None of those really work for this type of beauty, stunning is the only one that would top it.
- clownx, on 03/02/2008, -1/+6As much as aphex has some win on that one, smurf does have a nice point.
- aphexcoil, on 03/02/2008, -9/+4beauteous
- panpizza15, on 03/02/2008, -9/+2Reminds me of the liquid Terminator. That should be the villain for T4.
- topace3000, on 03/02/2008, -1/+5This is incredible. I can't believe it was so fluid and precise at the same time.
- maverick_swl, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1The precision is merely the fluid following the flux lines of the magnetic field generated, I'm not an EE, but what I do know about EM Theory would lead me to believe that the grooves and the taper somewhat dictate how the field is formed as well as how much current is going to the electromagnet. The fluid will follow the path of least resistance as well. Science as Art FTW.
- toastgodsupreme, on 03/02/2008, -18/+5OLD REPOST IS STILL REPOST!
How many times does this have to get posted? It's like, once every couple months. Learn to search before posting.- Furkle, on 03/02/2008, -1/+11I don't know about every couple of months, I've been around for over a year and it's the first time I've seen it. That's not to say it's never been submitted but at some point you just have to suck it up deal with and accept the fact that sooner or later content that isn't tied to any single date will be resubmitted and make the front page again.
- Shawn4168, on 03/02/2008, -0/+7The fact that enough people dugg this to the front page is indication that enough people found this interesting and original enough to warrant a digg. Even if it has been on here before (which I don't ever remember seeing it here before, and I've been here quite a while), that doesn't mean that new people aren't allowed to discover it and enjoy it. Calm down. The point of Digg is not to provide you with content that only you have never seen before. Other people want to use this site too.
- GramarNatzi, on 03/02/2008, -0/+6Sorry, unlike you i'm not able to check digg 24/7. Sometimes submissions slip by when i'm doing other *****.. you know, outside in the real world and stuff. You should give it a try sometime, it might chill you out a bit.
- ChayD, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1If you've seen it, skip to the next article, don't waste time whining about it FFS.
- nighthawk419, on 03/02/2008, -8/+2b-e-a-utiful
- anti_hax0r, on 03/02/2008, -8/+2This was at Siggraph about three years ago.
- Shabadoo, on 03/02/2008, -2/+9Odo?
- thedevice, on 03/02/2008, -1/+3That took me a solid 30 seconds to get, bravo to yo sir
- kbir007, on 03/02/2008, -6/+4It's hard to type when I'm picking up the pieces of my head that just EXPLODED!
- HastyBoom, on 03/02/2008, -2/+3What does it sound like?
- GramarNatzi, on 03/02/2008, -1/+4Like a fart in space
- CheeseburgerBro, on 03/02/2008, -0/+5I'll take a dozen.
- CATSCEO, on 03/02/2008, -0/+3I'll take 8!
- TridenTBoy, on 03/02/2008, -1/+2Well I am a conservative spender so I'll take none.
- anagoge, on 03/02/2008, -2/+2I don't know why, but this freaked me out.
- ridd1e, on 03/02/2008, -1/+12comment from YouTube:
"Is this metal, or liquid? Either way, we're one step closer to real tentacle rape >_>"- hextic, on 03/02/2008, -1/+4Indeed.
- ChayD, on 03/02/2008, -0/+2metal suspended in liquid.
- baudbwoy, on 03/02/2008, -0/+7I did a experiment like this for my class in high school back in 92 using iron filings and corn syrup...same principals (magnetorheological fluid)
- aforsberg, on 03/02/2008, -5/+1It's Terminator 2 all over again
- quinnmct, on 03/02/2008, -8/+5longer video posted here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0- clownx, on 03/02/2008, -1/+7Wow, I didn't know that Ferrofluids could mimic Rick Astley... Again, like the T-1000
- CATSCEO, on 03/02/2008, -0/+3Fake.
- fiskintl, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1i knew it...yet i was drawn to clicking...it was inevitable......
- YojimboJango, on 03/02/2008, -0/+3Techincally this video 'is' longer. He did not lie.
- prh99, on 03/02/2008, -8/+2How many times is this going to make the front page, this is like the third time I've seen it.
- aussieNickuss, on 03/02/2008, -1/+1Good for you.
- prh99, on 03/03/2008, -0/+1I wouldn't call it good. What good is a site where the same old junk just keeps floating back to the surface?
- cjh24, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1i know what you mean
- aussieNickuss, on 03/02/2008, -1/+1Good for you.
- Zybergod, on 03/02/2008, -1/+1I wonder what some practical applications of this would be. Various intensities of metal that are dyed and used for video/3d conferencing? Who knows.
- CATSCEO, on 03/02/2008, -1/+4It was invented by NASA, and if your computer has a hard drive, the oil used between the magnetic shaft and the drive platters is ferrofluid.
- maverick_swl, on 03/02/2008, -0/+2Thats not really how it works at all. You can't dye this, not yet at least. Ferrofluids are pretty much pitch black.
- NathanMahdavi, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1thats mental
- DeFex, on 03/02/2008, -0/+2ever read "Hyperion" series by Dan Simmonds this kind of reminds me of how the shrike works.
- kcap122, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1Terrifying.
- Bajwa123, on 03/02/2008, -1/+2certainly an art form all its own
- Gaiden199, on 03/02/2008, -0/+4Better
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpBxCnHU8Ao&feature ...- vidar808, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1I was about to go look on youtube myself to find it. Thanks!
- fiskintl, on 03/02/2008, -0/+3i was holding my breath for the synthesized evil that is rick astley...
- spacecheese, on 03/02/2008, -3/+4that ***** scares the ***** outta me- If it was CGI it'd be ok, but this ***** is T1000 deadly...
- Wcain, on 03/02/2008, -0/+4looks more like a killing machine to me
- whalt, on 03/02/2008, -1/+10Magnetic sculpture is very attractive. Or repulsive depending on your polarity.
- stalefries, on 03/02/2008, -0/+2buh-dum-tsch
- Poochyfud, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1Anybody else hear the Zelda music after the first two notes?
- boochicko, on 03/02/2008, -0/+0looks pretty, yet freaky at the same time.
- frooo, on 03/02/2008, -0/+5Keep your hard drives away from this. :)
- tehknotte, on 03/02/2008, -1/+2That's like toxic chocolate.
- ultralights, on 03/02/2008, -1/+3im pretty sure that this ferrofluid is the same stuff inside the shock absorbers in the latest generation of Ferraris! and the cars computer controls the electromagnetic field around the shock to cause the fluid to firm up and soften as needed.
- gridbread, on 03/02/2008, -1/+2This looks like something David Lynch would fill his swimming pool with.
- the999, on 03/02/2008, -0/+2Is it just me, or does anyone else get the urge to stick their hand it that?
- buymagicfish, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1I had the opportunity to see one of these sculptures when I lived in Tokyo. It is far cooler in real life than the video can show.
- P1um, on 03/02/2008, -0/+6i must touch it
- mikeyhell, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1From the wikipedia link:
Ferrofluids are used to form liquid seals (ferrofluidic seals) around the spinning drive shafts in hard disks. The rotating shaft is surrounded by magnets. A small amount of ferrofluid, placed in the gap between the magnet and the shaft, will be held in place by its attraction to the magnet. The fluid of magnetic particles forms a barrier which prevents debris from entering the interior of the hard drive. However, the ferrofluid is still similar enough in properties to a true liquid that it will not interfere with the spinning of the shaft. - RaDeus, on 03/02/2008, -1/+2love it, added to favorites!
the music reminds me of the Halo music (the "raw" music that didnt make it to the game)- fiskintl, on 03/02/2008, -1/+1nerd alert...
- GramarNatzi, on 03/02/2008, -1/+1Chopin's Raindrop Prelude.
