- Renfamous, on 04/09/2009, -0/+13You see that bit of white that's included in all six maps of LA?
That's Robert Downey Jr.'s house.

- britva836, on 04/09/2009, -0/+10Thanks for the useless maps.
- bdurkin, on 04/09/2009, -4/+13why am i looking at this.....lame.
- Ultra99, on 04/09/2009, -0/+8Cool, now I know where to meet supermodels!
- tbrand86, on 04/09/2009, -0/+8I'm sorry; I find this completely useless.
- foucaultsvac, on 04/09/2009, -0/+7I keep clicking but I can't find the insecure elitist map.
- rayraym0fucka, on 04/09/2009, -0/+6someone wishes they could hang ;p
- danwallace, on 04/09/2009, -0/+7Looking at these maps, it seems he's pretty much right.
- pokemonfan4eva, on 04/09/2009, -0/+6They could have used skittles, then I would've been interested.
- Shakermaker, on 04/09/2009, -0/+5I had the same confusion too - until I realized it's the entire map.
- dandybandit, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3Neat as mapping project, but I disagree with their methodology in determining which events to map...
"And because the photos were for sale, they had to be of events that people found inherently interesting..."
So the only kind of events they consider culturally significant were those with promotional photos? - Shakermaker, on 04/09/2009, -2/+6There's nothing cool about LA - just a bunch of beautiful people who think their ***** don't stink.
- InThePants, on 04/09/2009, -0/+4Yeah if you like theater and tourists
- jerrycan, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3There you have it. The eastern half of the lower east side is a *****.
- ltethe, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3You in the wrong part of LA.
- foucaultsvac, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3HEYO
- GoldenGlovez, on 04/09/2009, -1/+4Or an interview...
- HCJfilms, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3Wow, this is pretty pointless. Way to keep yourselves relevant, NYT.
- futimazar, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3Fascinating concept in GIS mapping but poor choice of subject matter. Wow, the same elite wealthy urbanites none of us care about hang out in the same posh elite areas of the city where we'd assume they would be any way.
An interactive online city map with many different "to-do" type things for a broader range of interests would have been neat. (Museums, different types of cuisine, aquariums, theatres, shopping, sporting events etc.) - mstachiw, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3cool is too subjective... having worked in Times Square it felt active as if I was in the center of a large machine pumping out technology, advertising, tourism, media outlets, and fellow industry workers... that doesn't equal cool that equals highly active hotspot within any given industry this lists
you can only be cool in mass media by calling yourself cool 24-7 by your publicist... one article on digg having you define cool in and of itself is rather uncool - intro211, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3i miss the old digg first page...
- ltethe, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2o_O Somehow you found the most flaming picture of RDJ ever.
- eemfitz, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2Eh, might be more interesting if it was interactive or idk, gave you any useful information whatsoever.
- bipolarruledout, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2It's everything and nothing all at once. You may have a point but these international cities do have rich cultural centers that you don't find in podunk towns. When the "freaks" converge some very interesting things happen that don't in other areas because there are no other people who care.
- pokemonfan4eva, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2Theater loses.
- bitterrotten, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2How do you make a map of cultural events and not include Brooklyn? .. Not to mention the quality factor is non existent, seeing as how Midtown Manhattan is burning up with cultural relevance.
- Maxwell1234, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2There's one green and pink dot (music/television) at the northeast corner of central park... is that just for 106 and Park??
- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -0/+2I would like to see this for Chicago.
- sweetpickle, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2San Francisco?
- comradeTJH, on 04/09/2009, -1/+2http://www.grandtheftautoivmaps.com/strangers.jpg
- bipolarruledout, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1What would be more interesting is to track socioeconomic status of these people. I think you would see income levels across the board. Many of these people aren't rich and yet they are attracted to each other in a strange dynamic. The artistic don't really care as much about money as most people because they recognize that it won't make them happy. The rich don't care because they already have money; both are searching for essentially the same thing. For this reason we are starting to view the concept of class differently than in the past.
- mrtango, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1Nothing goes on North of 125th St, Brooklyn or Queens?
(Nothing goes on in Staten Island or the Bronx so thats a given) - ChelseaBlacker, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1it's the projects, what were you expecting?
- hotjava23, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1Like any of us here on Digg will be in those parties (except for Kevin Rose).
- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1hey come on now death wish was filmed in south bronx :-p
- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1Oddly it's just as white on a narcotics sales heat map too
- mooseysavage, on 04/10/2009, -0/+1Rad!
Now let's see a map for all of Idaho... - danwallace, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1Why not?
- wondertwins, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1why is he wearing heels?
- djm19, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1Wow, I guess a city with the largest manufacturing industry in the nation is just a bunch of stuck up service/performance industry people? Its also nearly half latino so what does that say about latinos in general if La is so high on itself?
Your generalizations about LA are baseless. - Norumeni, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1I'm pretty sure that is the LA metro area...Look closer.
- maildave, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1There is not much I want to do on Park Ave. North. Let's try this again with a much better data set.
- darkism, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1Uptown and Lakeview for music (tons of venues)
West Loop and Lincoln Park for food (Alinea, Blackbird, moto, etc.)
Pilsen and Humboldt Park for art and overall hip-ness - bipolarruledout, on 04/09/2009, -1/+1I don't if you consider these "promotional photos" but anyone with a digital SLR thinks they are a photographer now. Are these the people who decide what is "inherently interesting"?
- bipolarruledout, on 04/09/2009, -1/+1All you would see are the slight blips around the edges. It's just statistics which you shouldn't over generalize with; it merely makes for interesting contemplation.
- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -1/+1judging from what I hear on NPR the projects are apparently a cauldron of unvoiced artists and a delicious diversity of Americana...
- speedk0re, on 04/09/2009, -1/+1ahh I was thinking he was comparing cities, not maps.
/retractcomment - djm19, on 04/09/2009, -0/+0Thats not even close to LA's metro area. I would say its not even a quarter of it.
They cropped the maps to focus just on the areas with noticeable activity. - mdude85, on 04/09/2009, -0/+0I'll save you the trouble of clicking on the link and tell you they're all pretty much identical. That's what happens when you are only sampling in area of like 10 square miles. It would be more interesting to see a map for all of New York City or the LA metro area instead.
