- CaptDD, on 05/06/2009, -4/+202Since the Mexican Gov't. just passed a bill Decriminalizing the possession of small amounts of drugs, our Country (one which guarantees free speech) should promote a "free" and open debate!
If the US Gov't. can now talk about torture, then why can't we talk about legalizing pot in small amounts without being afraid? - CopsSayLegalize, on 05/07/2009, -7/+179Maybe we're at the tipping point now...?
- inactive, on 05/07/2009, -6/+114Legalize hemp at least. Hemp > Cotton
- SantaClauz, on 05/07/2009, -5/+111Well, if the majority of you want it to be legalized, do something about it. Whether you think so or not, every extra member, donation, and letter sent out to your representative DOES make a difference. If enough of us continue to do this, they simply cannot ignore us. Unless they don't start changing their stone-age policies to better cater to how we feel, they'll soon find themselves out of power.

You CAN make a difference. - Icebird, on 05/07/2009, -3/+90There needs to be an open debate on this.
- angelschambers, on 05/07/2009, -1/+84Well this is going to surprise you. The way it affects you is probably not going to be what the media has brought you to believe. It's the safest drug that's not on the market.
- branndon, on 05/07/2009, -7/+87I'm almost 29, and have never tried it, but probably would if it were legalized. (Red button, I know.. lol)
- supernovasky, on 05/07/2009, -3/+76I will smoke to that.
Its a sad state of existence where we refuse to prosecute torture, but throw people in jail for growing and smoking a plant.
At least the zeitgeist of our generation is stronger than the age-old chains of prohibition and disinformation. We're just waking up and getting started. - bunghole59, on 05/07/2009, -1/+48i think the tipping point is coming. but i also think we need to continue to encourage people to get involved with the discussion. i think the final obstacles are the people who write the laws and the people with guns. looks like the lawmakers are starting to come around, but it's going to be tough to convince the drug-war-profiteers.
- tillerman00, on 05/07/2009, -0/+40(hitting switches)
don't worry, i'm in the process of legalizing it right now, shouldn't be more than a few minutes here . . .
(turning dials) - CJ117, on 05/07/2009, -4/+44NORML.org has some great pre-written letters to send to representatives about this issue, if you're too lazy to write one yourself. (They're not filled with BS, they are great letters) and your voice counts just as much. One Voice, One Vote!
We, as american citizens, have the right to come together as one and change the way things are done. That's the way our country's framers intended on it, despite how things seem to be run in today's world. That's the way it was then, that's the way it should be today.
Legalize! Regulate! Educate! - twiztidsinz, on 05/07/2009, -2/+33"its a effing plant...not gods gift to man"
If you believe in god, and that god made the world for us.. then yes.. it IS gods gift to man.
"get a job"
Go tell that to Richard Branson, Chairman of Virgin.
He loves his marijuana. - jitterbits, on 05/07/2009, -1/+28Yeah, odd that we can discuss how it's okay to suppress rights, but unfathomable to contemplate allowing rights.
(And yes, they are our bodies and we have the right to do what we want with them if it does not infringe upon another person unwillingly.) - supernovasky, on 05/07/2009, -4/+30No, no, its perfectly fine. You're like a lot of sensible people that want to experience marijuana but don't want to inhale illegal pesticides while doing so. I choose to inhale, but only what I know is locally grown. :)
- twiztidsinz, on 05/07/2009, -1/+26I bet it would be less than those who are harmed by people who use alcohol....
- sb66, on 05/07/2009, -6/+31ya i hear all their ***** is writun by liberuls with iqs over 90....wow
- broncfan23, on 05/07/2009, -6/+28There is no rational argument to keep pot illegal.
- apena89, on 05/07/2009, -6/+27Majority rules. So long as the minority is not harmed or abused by those who smoke marijuana.
- falconear, on 05/07/2009, -2/+23Well, majority is majority, even if only slightly. I was on a bs alert as well, but unless they flat lied in the report, they asked them flat if they would support efforts to legalize and tax marijuana. Just a week ago or so I was arguing on another discussion forum here that soon the number would slip past 50%. Seems like a tipping point to me.
Anyone want to guess? 10 years to legalization? Maybe 5 or less for national decriminalization? For some reason I think it might depend on how much worse the state budgets get. If they can't dig out of this mess, suddenly taxing America's second largest cash crop makes a whole lot of sense. - apena89, on 05/07/2009, -1/+22not a debate, just unbiased scientific research that either proves or disproves whether marijuana is more harmful than cigarettes or alcohol. If disproved, then it should be legal.
- sonicpentatonic, on 05/07/2009, -0/+21You're right, it is just a plant. What's the big deal?
- beervolcano, on 05/07/2009, -1/+21I don't like it AT ALL.
That being said, I still think it should be legalized. - MechaFalcon, on 05/07/2009, -1/+20Yeah, 52% of America is for the taxation and regulation of ILLEGAL pot.
- lamejoketeller, on 05/07/2009, -1/+20no peo ple
the man is right
***** ing pot is kill
it cam dead you in like a minute
there are think of the children - dragum00, on 05/07/2009, -3/+22i dont get it. why dont we have a vote?
at least califronia.... - lamejoketeller, on 05/07/2009, -0/+18because we could author legislation that would make everyone rich
are you this cynical in other areas of your life?
"Remember, boy, trying is the first step towards failure, so never try."
-Homer Simpson - TripKid, on 05/07/2009, -3/+21It's the healing of the Nation.
- teknomaker18, on 05/07/2009, -1/+19Are we at the tipping point where people who smoke marijuana are actually more educated than the fascist people who state comments like the one I am replying too?
- Toshibi, on 05/07/2009, -1/+19I'm 29 and haven't touched it since I was 16. It mostly made me hungry and a little bleary eyed. And ***** was funny. Of course, it's better to do it with friends...funny friends. Besides that...I quit because the last thing a guy my size needed was a reason to snack....or a reason to not care...pot is great for mellowing you out.
- joshmoney, on 05/07/2009, -0/+18I think he means that politicians should be able to have a serious discussion about it without the fear of committing political suicide.
- yaosio, on 05/07/2009, -10/+28lol, no, lol - Barrack Obama
- andrewlotta, on 05/07/2009, -1/+19Everyone knows if a debate happened, pro-marijuana arguments would destroy anti-marijuana arguments.
- AZExile, on 05/07/2009, -1/+18sodade: "Think of the children!"
"Everyone will be stoned all the time!"
"More car wrecks!"
"They're DRUGS! And DRUGS ARE BAD"
"WONT YOU THINK OF THE CHILDREN!?" - Tddupre, on 05/07/2009, -3/+20"And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good."
- sonicpentatonic, on 05/07/2009, -1/+18You aren't very familiar with the basics of polling are you? Most polls that you hear cited in media reports actually have less respondents than this poll, but are still used to make some conclusions about the population as a whole. These polls often work by picking a number of areas throughout the nation that, when taken as an aggregate, give a good representation of the population as a whole in terms of age, race, gender, heritage, political leanings, socio-economic status, etc etc so that each type of person is generally propotionally accounted for. Then, within these areas, they do what is known as random-digit dialing where they randomly dial numbers within these areas, ask the questions, and then keep dialing until they get a decent sample size from each area.
These factors, when considered together, usually give at least a pretty good picture of what the nation as a whole feels. Sure the number 52% is meaningless when stated without the margin of error of the poll (I didn't see one listed), which is usually +/- 3 or 4%, but it will at least give you the MOST LIKELY representation of the nation as a whole. Maybe the margin of error on this poll was 15% so anywhere between 37 and 67% of Americans support legalization of marijuana, but even if the margin of error is a very reasonable 3%, there is still a possibility that a majority of Americans don't support legalizing marijuana.
Regardless, the fact that the poll numbers are going up still says that legalization efforts are gaining ground in the US as a whole. I think that is the biggest take away message, not necessarily that Americans are now in favor of regulating and taxing this plant and being able to buy it at the corner store next week. - JohnJohnLutes, on 05/07/2009, -0/+16Granted, Roberto doesn't seem too intelligent, but we don't want people like him in our military anyway.
And don't think we military folks can't think for ourselves, either. I swore to defend the Constitution - not end-runs around it by moralizing puritans (Prohibition.) I am 100% in favor of legalizing cannabis, and drugs in general. Basic economics tells me so... - inactive, on 05/07/2009, -0/+16I have a job. Don't be jealous you're unemployable.
- sodade, on 05/07/2009, -0/+16You don't think this stuff has already been studied? Our government has been desperately looking for the negatives since the 60's. They even ignored the findings of their own commission.
- DestroyedAUS, on 05/07/2009, -2/+18Perhaps you guys aren't as 'free' as you think you are?
- m0llusk, on 05/07/2009, -2/+18Countries with legal or decriminalized cannabis experience a decrease in experimentation. You may be likely to try it if it were legalized, but science shows most will not.
- supernovasky, on 05/07/2009, -1/+16Perhaps, but remember, this wont happen by itself. Honestly, I think the real way this will happen will be quite simple: More intelligent, involved people of our generation who are smoking marijuana at a rate higher than any other, 56.7%, will realize that it's not that bad and when we are in control, we will legislate accordingly.
- Toshibi, on 05/07/2009, -2/+17See, that's the problem. There are quite a few people that are unable to live their lives because they're stuck in jail for no more than owning a plant.
- supernovasky, on 05/07/2009, -0/+14Way to completely misunderstand what the word zeitgeist means. I'll give you a hint, Alex Jones did not create nor does he have a monopoly on the word.
- fartbarker, on 05/07/2009, -0/+14i dont know why you got dugg down
he DOES mock marijuana legalization AND he hates gays
true story - Garofoli, on 05/07/2009, -0/+14Hemp paper > Wood Paper
Do that and we can forget about 'save the trees'. - m0llusk, on 05/07/2009, -1/+15The harm comes from prohibition.
- anawnymoose, on 05/07/2009, -0/+14It's pretty generally accepted that smoking anything while pregnant is bad for your kid. As well as driving under the influence of anything.
- docod44, on 05/07/2009, -0/+14WTF are you talking about? Clearing forests for hemp? We've already cleared out enough forests in this country; hemp could grow in virtually any farm-able open space. Plus, since it has deep penetrating roots, the process of harvesting it re-vitalizes the soil. This means that you can use the same spot season after season and not worry about wasting resources. You sir are true Bat-***** at its finest.
- danthepiercer, on 05/07/2009, -2/+15im in my early 30s and i can honestly say that i havent touched that stuff in 15 maybe even 16 years.
