- Twenty, on 07/05/2008, -1/+3I don't know about this. I understand the necessity of abbreviations and all that, and how they don't actually undermine comprehension, but there are too many kids (and guys my age) who just can't spell. It's so frustrating. In the world of SMS, it doesn't matter how you say something, as long as it's vaguely understandable -- that is how texting undermines the english language. There's no room for nuance. The beauty of language is shot down in favor of expedience, and it works its way into everyday communication.

- kd420, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1The main problem with "pillaging our punctuation; savaging our sentences; raping our vocabulary" is that it is not "your" language. People can communicate however they want, and some people get mad because they are unwilling to change. I dislike when people use "their" instead of "they're", but that's because it is confusing. When someone uses text short forms it's because it is fast, and the receiver usually understands them.
