While it can certainly be much more technical than freeform art (yes, I can dial in multiple strobes to get the lighting however I want and adjust the color temperature and all that - it's not difficult once you get your head wrapped around how light works), unless you're making 100% of your photographic income from boring corporate head-shots, there's a distinct creative/artistic aspect to it.

- TheKingInYellow, on 03/20/2008, -0/+3for about $10 you could make your own. buy some nice water color paper, white felt or something, a bottle of black ink and a cheap used aquarium. soak a line of ink into the material. let it dry. repeat until you have a concentration of ink. place different white sheet in water for lighting and exposure purposes. submerge ink soaked paper in water and immediately start clicking away.
