- Disregard, on 04/01/2009, -6/+75The natural human gender ratio is actually more like 52:48 in favor of women (something to do with more males dying in infancy due to Y chromosome disorders) but enough Chinese and Indians abort females that it's roughly 50:50 globally.
The good news is that most of the West has it's extra 2% ladies. - inactive, on 04/01/2009, -6/+71It's not listed as a solution, what the ***** are you on about?
- Velly, on 04/01/2009, -0/+64It's out of date at the least.

- Stevethegreat, on 04/01/2009, -12/+69Bad news for the doom and gloom people, poverty rates are decreasing, so much so that by 2100, the planet -for the first time in History- may have no people living under absolute poverty. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poverty#Recent_trends ...
And guess how that's happening ..... yes that's right, through the demonic powers of the industrial revolution and free commerce that the left despises so much. Why is it that the people who purport to care for those issues, do the least to alleviate them? Every time Bono is making a new concert and self-righteous white people are turning off their lights there is a scientist -working through the enlightenment's value of discovering the truth- finding a cheap vaccine for malaria, a greedy corporation -working through the industrial revolution's ethos, that making money through industrialism is a virtue- manufacturing the drug, and heartless super rich capitalistic fiends like Bill Gates or Warren Buffet who are financing the whole loop.
Maybe -who knows- being successful in your work while having an ounce of humanity in you, is more effective at alleviating those people's ailments (those who were not as lucky as you) rather than feeling guilty for not being born in the mud. Because if you think , for a bit, that our ancestors lived in the mud as well -for well less than the equivalent of $1 per day- only about 300 years ago, it's easy to understand that they didn't get anything for nothing, they worked through it giving us our "blasphemous" lives that we enjoy; it's ethically inferior to feel guilty for something you should have felt proud for, instead it's better to do something to impart your well-being to those less fortunate than you... - kenn4000, on 04/01/2009, -3/+56yeah it seems to me that every gathering of a hundred people is a sausage fest, maybe im just unlucky.
- inactive, on 04/01/2009, -4/+57Gandhi was awesome. Like Oscar Wilde, or Bender, you can quote him in almost any situation.
- inactive, on 04/01/2009, -4/+56That's good. Now you know what everyone's been saying about you all along.

He said quoting Gandhi is appropriate a lot, so to show him wrong you QUOTED GANDHI. Didn't you just prove his point? - moose26, on 04/01/2009, -2/+36Lets see, checklist:
--roof over my head, CHECK
--food to eat, CHECK
--luxury items like an iPod, TV/DVD/cable, Xbox360 and a computer, CHECK
--reliable yet old cheapie car, CHECK
--feeling like a big heel after watching video on 100 earth, CHECK - rupaw, on 04/01/2009, -13/+47Fact is that the world doesn't have enough resources for everyone's need and India is a great example for this: during Gandhi''s time India had approximately 200.000.000 citizens (way too many for the size of the country). Now there are more than 1 billion Indian. This is fu**ing irresponsible - and no this is NOT the fault of the western world or human society as a whole and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with greed. India and China behaved like Octomum during the last decades and videos like this suggest that we are somehow all responsible ... That's easy, isn't it?
- DPDish12, on 04/01/2009, -2/+34So half of one would have AIDS. They rounded up.
Amazing that's what you pulled from the presentation. - Jawbone54, on 04/01/2009, -2/+33Tacky comment, but I LOLed for sure.
- inactive, on 04/01/2009, -1/+31Needs a fast forward button. I'm highly impatient at 1am. Leaving me to be the 1 ***** of the group of 100.
- dazparkour, on 04/01/2009, -2/+30On the upside, since they would be too busy digging everything, you get to be Kevin Rose and actually create digg.
- DigitalisAkujin, on 04/01/2009, -15/+42It seems that we are moving in a direction where the population numbers will increase faster then we can deal with it. This can only lead to war on a large scale due to destabilization of the poor regions of the world. I hope this is not where the world is going but I fear that it is.
- Pronoiac, on 04/01/2009, -5/+32Pffft. As if I needed another reminder of how ***** awesome it is to be me. Buried.
- Gizza, on 04/01/2009, -1/+28Says the guy who mixes up "there" and "they're".
And I think what the OP was saying is that instead of saying if the Earth contained only 100 people with all the ratios the same they simply could've used percentages. - fandyllic, on 04/01/2009, -1/+26Not if it isn't on weapons.
- firesights, on 04/01/2009, -1/+25I find it somewhat fitting that in a video displaying how impoverished the world is, over 50% of the world's population living on $2 a day, you have to complain about having to watch the video, presumably on your extremely modern, well-equipped computer with broadband internet.
It's sad, really. Especially given the last words in the video. "Appreciate what you have." - donte, on 04/01/2009, -1/+25I bet the internet would actually be a more enjoyable place since people wouldn't have the fake courage granted by anonymity to be a total douchebag. You'd be able to tell real easily whether a post was from that dude in Nigeria or the guy from South America who keeps trying to sell you little blue pills so that you could score with the 5 girls from Europe.
- mwtbdltr, on 04/01/2009, -1/+24well ... minus 1 cuz one has aids sooooo yer
- inactive, on 04/01/2009, -8/+31yeah very nice but the music was horrible
- OneFreespirit, on 04/01/2009, -2/+24Believe me, there would be more than 1 *****...
-If we'd reduce the population of the earth to that of a village of a hundred... 97 of them would be total ***** *****.-
My take on it anyways. - guyonthecouch, on 04/01/2009, -2/+23I can tell I've been a long time Digger when I've seen this same story dugg up more than twice.
- inactive, on 04/01/2009, -3/+23Probably a bit more than your spelling is.
- andreegal, on 04/01/2009, -1/+21@rupaw, the fact that you see people starving on the streets has nothing to do weather you can actually feed then or not.
- rchargel, on 04/01/2009, -0/+19bite my shiny metal ass.
Yep you're right. - nullcodes, on 04/01/2009, -8/+27You are wrong that it's impossible for India to sustainably feed 1 billion people. You have zero scientific basis for that.
Have you done any math on it ?
India is self sufficient in food today, they are not dependent on food aid.
Furthermore, food is just caloric intake and as long as there is adequate energy supply, which the earth has .. then there can be enough food .. food can be farmed in multi floored buildings in artificial light if needed. You have no proof that that that it is impossible to provide food for everyone in India, even excluding nuclear power .. solar energy alone is enough. There is more than enough minerals and always will be because it's recycled (not used up). You are fixated on open acreage for farming rather than seeing it as an energy issue. Even if India had to rely entirely on solar power there is enough food. The problem is an energy issue and solar pwoer plants and maybe eventually fusion power plants can fix that - CodeMaster123, on 04/01/2009, -6/+25***** stupid comment.
- bipolarruledout, on 04/01/2009, -0/+18You also neglect to take into account age demographics. Babies and children do not have secondary educations.
- Duncanizer1, on 04/01/2009, -1/+19Yes. Would you rather have 60 and a half Asians?
- nullcodes, on 04/01/2009, -10/+28"The world has enough resources for everyone's need, but not for even one person's greed."
-Gandhi
Throughout history mankind has faced famines and come through. Even when there were only a few hundred million people on earth, we had to face famines and inadequate resources for some. It's nothing new that large chunks of our population is starving. We have to get them out of it, so they can have an education adn decent quality of life. , it has nothing to do with the inability to of the earth to provide. After all we could build solar power plants and desalinate the oceans water to irrigate the deserts for farming (which can also be done on multi floored buildings with artificial lighting).
But we don't need to .. the earth already provides enough food for 10 billion people with current inefficient farming techniques.
Population isn't the problem .. lack of education and medical care is the problem. - dazparkour, on 04/01/2009, -0/+17Women however live longer than men on average.
- CaptMonkey, on 04/01/2009, -2/+19I'm not sure why it's commonly thought to be the reverse, but men outnumber women on the planet by a small amount (101 men to 100 women) . The margin is wider at birth (105-107 men to 100 women), but females don't outnumber males until you get into the 65+ age range.
