    google maps/earth images are not taken by an airplane, dumbass, they are satellite images. taken by a satellite in space.

  • PFCWilliams, on 09/06/2008, -0/+2There are two towns on either side of these trees, both only 2.5 miles away, on the border of Kazakhstan, not in Siberia. The whole area appears to be some kind of tree farm, like the US's Pacific northwest where after trees are harvested they are replanted and cut down again after 60 years. There are large areas of trees with very well defined straight borders and the trees within these areas are lined up in a row, suggesting man planted them and not random growth. And the area around the "Lenin" tree sign is devoid of any trees at all. So ya, they have definitely been performing upkeep on this little tree sign.

Not like the bus-blowing-up religious freaks we're aligned against these days. The Soviets had uniforms, and missiles, and didn't live in caves. Come on, Putin, bring it back!

    I live in the US, and the "current" satellite view of where I live is missing about half the town, meaning that the images are somewhere around 15-20 years old (as a guess, could be even older). I've just been going with the assumption that the current imagery was "redacted" because I live very close to a large air force base and fairly close to another, even more sensitive military installation, but who knows... just because it's on Google doesn't mean it's necessarily a recent image.

    It seems some Russians should smarten up. True, the American government may be the global tyrant right now, but Lenin was one of the worst human beings in human history. He was completely deluded intellectually, and was directly responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent Russians. If you consider the legacy of his genocidal and economically unsound ideas, he is indirectly responsible for the wrongful murder of over 100 million living, breathing, individuals. The American government is out of control, granted. But it is not THAT out of control just yet. Smarten up you fringe Russian buffoons!!! Be proud of the good aspects of your Russian cultural history, not the profound mistakes. Just because we Americans (stupidly) celebrate our terrible war-mongering leaders doesn't mean you Russians should do the same.

I don't know what it looks like now, my image library says the photo is from 1999. And yes, the region bordering Kazakhstan IS Siberia. Referred to as Eastern Siberia, to be precise.
