- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -3/+22Why should peaceful people have to adjust their traditional lifestyle because somebody else barges into their community with "legal" crops which they think are better?

- fuzzybutton, on 07/09/2009, -1/+137,000 acres of poppies in Afghanistan when we go there, now 400,000 acres and last week we said we don't care about the poppies anymore. Two days later we want to eliminate pain killers with acetaminophen. Got heroin on your street yet?
- Junkyarddawg, on 07/09/2009, -1/+8This approach (supplying farmers with alternative cash crops) have been tried in south america and in afghanistan, and there's two problems:
Firstly it's hard to beat drugs for profitability.
Secondly, and more importantly, the areas are controlled by drug mafias, and they'll torch non-drug fields and kill non-drug producing farmers. Growing peas is more dangerous than growing opium poppy in large parts of afghanistan. - clokwise, on 07/09/2009, -0/+6I've been there. The ganja trees are as tall as a house, and the leaves are wider than a human hand. And they grow like weeds everywhere, like nobody even pays attention to them. When you arrive in the region you instantly notice a interesting odor due to the plants growing everywhere. But.... the ganja is not all that great. At least not the plants I've sampled there.
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+6Let's Colonize them... Legal? According to who? It's a PLANT. I'm sure Pharmaceutical Companies would love to cash in, they just can't figure out a way without destroying a huge portion of their other enterprises. ***** puritanical ***** imposing their own belief system on others.
- b0bbyw1se, on 07/09/2009, -0/+5The article says that the cops never find the good plants. I guess you didn't either.
- nikhil1986, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4This is sad. Malana cream is probably the best ***** I've ever smoked!
- anatraj, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4"But.... the ganja is not all that great. At least not the plants I've sampled there."
Well here's your problem: you're smoking the plants, not the hashish they make from the plants. - inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3Yay for black hash
- deylux, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3SWOOOOSH I can hear the wind coming
- cardyology, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3You mean "Charas"
- thatashguy, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3All i know is they also use the weed to feed their animals so they get stoned and then eat more... Yeah- I'm being serious.
- Zaxcomp, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2Clearly they need to up the addiction rate for a less caring public.
- Feraldr00d, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2Thanks, that's a fantastic explanation!
- GhettoHmbrglr, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2^sarcasm
- WiseWeasel, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2Depends on the crop. Plants that extensively deplete the soil's nitrogen and other nutrients, such as corn, you definitely want to rotate to avoid having to use large quantities of chemical fertilizers. Cannabis does reduce nitrogen levels, and thus benefits from either rotation with or inter-planting with nitrogen-fixing legumes, but it will readily grow in depleted soil where many crops won't, and has much less of an impact on soil quality relative to many other cash crops.
http://books.google.com/books?id=O7AoY6ljSygC& ... - 1x253, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2What's also a fact is that a major determining factor in how a crop turns out depends on the ph and the contents of the soil (unique from region to region), humidity, sunlight (circadian rhythms affected), etc.
The most sought after, desirable tobacco in the world is grown in the province of Pinar del Rio, Cuba and it always has been. The seeds taken from there after Castro took power have been grown in other regions very similar to Pinar del Rio in terms of climate and soil and have rendered good, but not outstanding results. The tobacco was also cured by the exact same experts who did the curing in Cuba so it wasn't a matter of process (they basically lifted as much of the operation as possible including some of the more expert cigar rollers).
This is true for fruits and veggies as well. Those seeds may turn out a similar crop, but it will never be identical. - m0n0kr0m3, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1maybe if they got their supply lines inline with virtual timelines, then they could maximize their their leverage, profits and core competencies in real time 27/7/365, They just need to get it where they can sell it with out all the smuggling crap that makes crooks rich and not the farmers. I'm gonna go write a white paper on it right now
/s - DirtyMcGee, on 07/09/2009, -2/+3Wtf...
- b0bbyw1se, on 07/09/2009, -1/+2I would think that these people know a little bit about farming. They are growing what some people consider to be the best cannabis in the world.
- deylux, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1Thanks for the input clokwise.
Whats funny is it won't be gone forever like this "anti-drug" guy is trying to do...epic fail on his part by doing no research...
There's always going to be a group(s) whom has those same exact plants set of genetics, as well as seeds, in their inventory. Always. Until the day earth is hammered again, those very plants will be on earth.. that's a damn fact. - deylux, on 07/09/2009, -1/+1 Top 10 lawl cat pic if I ever saw one! Right behind the invisibike cat. DUGG
- fhqwhgadz, on 07/09/2009, -3/+3........ so are you gonna pass that ***** or what?
- 1x253, on 07/09/2009, -1/+1Sharma is taking his life into his own hands trying to replace pot with "legal" crops. He'll be very lucky if the Israeli mafia doesn't kill him.
- Mesmeriser, on 07/09/2009, -1/+0true, the quality is not that great ... but that is NOT the final product is it? Its all about the black hash "Jaras" they make from it. The variety they use is simply not for smoking as is. in any case ITS BAD FOR YOU ... stay away ... or simply walk the hills
- GhettoHmbrglr, on 07/09/2009, -4/+2Maybe if they weren't so busy doing drugs they could get a real job and not be in poverty.
- Feraldr00d, on 07/09/2009, -7/+4Clearly an extremely dangerous and destructive drug. In all seriousness though, isn't alternating between two or three crops better for the soil? I think the outside influence really will help them, at least in that way. I just hope they can retain their peaceful existence when the road is fin-holy ***** my arm is veiny. What the hell?
