Goth who walks girlfriend on leash is told "No Dogs Allowed"
dailymail.co.uk — This goth guy was told he couldn't travel on the bus because they "don't allow dogs". There is a hi-res pic of him "walking" his girlfriend in the article.

- Nitesmoke, on 01/22/2008, -66/+116People dress and act like this just for the attention. They do it for the shock value. I don't understand why they get so upset when people have a negative reaction to it. I don't agree with the bus driver not letting them on, but what did they expect? People tend to treat others like they dress. It may not be right, but its the way it is. If I show up to a MLK day celebration wearing a confederate flag t-shirt, I cant be upset when people get mad at me, I did it to cause the controversy. They did this to cause controversy, plain and simple. I think they were looking for trouble just to cry foul. Why is it goths feel the need to be different, so they all dress alike? Its funny they are screaming "discrimination," I wonder how women's rights groups fell about her being led around like a dog in public. But she does look like a bitch, so its probably not so inappropriate after all....
- hplasm, on 01/22/2008, -16/+76Shh, Grandpa!
- Gir53457, on 01/23/2008, -14/+6They WANT the attention. They practically live on of being shunned and victimized.
- swrostmore, on 01/22/2008, -31/+73What a bunch of crap. Bus driver gets jealous that some skinny freak gets more ass than he does, bus driver abuses his position of authority to put the freak in his place. IMHO the driver should be fired for refusing to do his job (drive people around on his bus). Thats all there is to this story, how people dress (and your MLK day example) is totally irrelevant.
- Nitesmoke, on 01/22/2008, -14/+42I agree that the bus driver was out of line. I think he should be fired, it's not his place to enforce a dress code on the bus. All I was saying, even with my MLK analogy, if you dress to cause controversy, don't be surprised when you get it.
- LeeSoong, on 01/23/2008, -0/+10the chain could be a 'tripping hazard' if they sit in opposite seats ?

Way to make assumptions.- Akaji, on 01/22/2008, -30/+36Logical conclusion, not assumptions. Prove him wrong.
- psygnisfive, on 01/22/2008, -7/+43The onus of proof is on he who asserts the positive.
- KibibyteBrain, on 01/23/2008, -8/+26Actually, lots of people do it because they are sexually expressive, not for any "shock value". But thanks for playing.
- darrenpauli, on 01/23/2008, -12/+9I don't do it for shock value. Just proved you wrong, skidmark.
- overridemymind, on 01/23/2008, -3/+7I concur with darrenpauli. Just because you like a certain style does not mean you're out for ''Shock Value''. While I don't really behave in similar fashion to the guy in the story, I do like to wear black, and I do like to wear long, flowy black jackets. I dress similarly to some of these people, and I don't do it for ''shock value'' I do it because I like the style. Same thing in this guy's case, albeit his case is really more extreme. It's what they like, it doesn't hurt anyone, it's not immoral, ergo, who's business is it to pass judgment? And as for women's rights groups being concerned, she can (and most likely WILL) tell them to screw off and go away. The fact that she has ovaries doesn't mean that she was born to become a walking billboard for equal rights movements.
- ngmcs8203, on 01/23/2008, -5/+4I think that his assumption is a bit better than saying they're just two teenage douchebags that feel like this form of rebellion will get attention from their mid-upper class conservative parents. Another assumption that is more dramatic can be the, "Hey they're wearing black. Lock down the school!"
- Akaji, on 01/22/2008, -30/+36Logical conclusion, not assumptions. Prove him wrong.
- vladin, on 01/23/2008, -11/+26People should NOT be expected to dress according to 'others' standards nor should they be treated differently. It's one's actions that matter. You say they're asking for it? That makes you a fascist.
- Nitesmoke, on 01/23/2008, -5/+10Lol, now I'm a fascist, that word get used incorrectly on Digg more than your mom. No, they shouldn't be treated differently, but don't be surprised if you do, is what I said.
- vladin, on 01/23/2008, -1/+6Who cares about the women's rights groups in this case. It was her choice period. So should a women's rights group intervene on her behalf and saver her from what she claims makes her happy? What if it was the guy on the leash? If that girl didn't like it in anyway, what she was participating in, then hell yeah call out the hounds.
- Nitesmoke, on 01/23/2008, -5/+10Lol, now I'm a fascist, that word get used incorrectly on Digg more than your mom. No, they shouldn't be treated differently, but don't be surprised if you do, is what I said.
- Chinzon, on 01/23/2008, -4/+11Besides, if they're merely seeking attention like you say, surely the best course of action would have been to let them on the bus and act normally; that way we'd never have heard of these people, and the taxpayer would have been saved a bit of cash. And the bus driver would've taken an extra quid fifty or summat. Come to think of it, the only reason to not let them on is to cause controversy.
- Nitesmoke, on 01/23/2008, -3/+7i agree, all I meant was when you dress a certain way, people treat you a certain way. This is wrong, I don't agree with it, but that doesn't change the fact that it does happen. What do you usually think when yu see a suburban upper-middle class white kid, who walks, talks, and dress like a black guy from Compton? Alot of people will think "what a douchebag," without ever talking to the guy, maybe he's a really cool kid, beneath the act, but most people will never know because they judge on appearances. I do not agree with what the driver did. You are right, he's the one who caused controversy. He should be fired. But, now hear me out, when you put on a costume, and goth IS a costume, you do it to invoke a response, some time it will be positive, like with other goths, sometimes it will be negative, like with older people who are less tolerant of that sort of thing. Thats all I'm saying, please stop acting like I'm on the driver's side. And I promise you, if a guy is walking around town with leading his woman on a leash, I promise you attention neediness played a part in that decision.
- theOster, on 01/23/2008, -4/+24what pisses me off about goths is that more often than not, they walk around in this slumped posture suggesting that they're sheepish and shy. i saw a guy get off the subway in a spectacular outfit with the tophat and everything. he scurried off the train and up the stairs like a little girl. if you dress that outrageous, act like you own the ***** world. walk like your ***** doesn't stink and bully the hell out of anyone that crosses your path. command a little respect.
- Fordi, on 01/23/2008, -2/+5This is not a rude remark or gesture. This is refusal of service without a concurrent violation of policy. The bus driver should be fired for exposing his employers to such liability. Every other word in your argument is completely irrelevant; this is strictly a legal issue.

- razorsedge555, on 01/22/2008, -19/+8I have to agree with a couple of points made here. One, the driver MAY have been concerned about possible injury. Two, more likely the driver was upset that this extra from a Matrix film was tapping the ass of someone sexier than his wife. I've worked in the service industry, and it's amazing how often you can find ways to screw with people you don't like because of "policy" or "safety" reasons.
- wellyuk, on 01/23/2008, -1/+26When the driver used the words "We don't let freaks and dogs like you on.", he had absolutely NO concern about possible injury. Don't think that highly of British bus drivers. 99% of them are grumpy, sour bastards. And to call UK public transport a "service" industry is debatable too.
- razorsedge555, on 01/23/2008, -0/+1we call them service industries here because we lost all of our real industries to "globalism" and downsizing. sometimes we have happy bus drivers here, i think it's the drugs lol

- Icyfenix, on 01/23/2008, -6/+9It's not pathetic. It's millions of years of evolution. People are afraid of weird things, because in a world where strange fruits are poisonous and odd animals are predators, it pays to be afraid. Public opinion is just the epitome of our most basic instincts because when one person says it, no matter what you think, there's a little person inside of you called genetics that says "yea! what he said!"
It's not pathetic, just natural.
But we all overcome it on an individual basis every day when we don't steal and rape and pillage and murder.- Cerebral, on 01/23/2008, -0/+1"Public opinion is just the epitome of our most basic instincts"
How wrong is that statement/thought... I mean if you talk about instincts then look at children (2 to 4 years old) and they will show you instincts. They have no prejudices, evils, biases etc. What you are referring to is socialization which is the furthest from "instincts" as you can get. Socialization is being afraid of, or hating, black people because your mother was a bigot.
Saying anything is "normal" or "strange" is a relative term defined by the person making the judgment. Why do you think they give you a 1 - 10 scale for judging the pain you feel in a hospital/ER? Because everyone has different pain tolerances etc.
- Cerebral, on 01/23/2008, -0/+1"Public opinion is just the epitome of our most basic instincts"

- LordZaos, on 01/23/2008, -2/+13Agreed. Freak yes. there is no denying it, but I think the real issue is whether a freak can ride a bus. Why not is what I say. That kind of power trip the bus driver was on befitted no one but them self. What I think is funny about this is the preconceptions this bus driver must of had to resort to a act of public embarrassment for both parties... and pet. All this while the drunk bum, heroin addict and a violent felon sitting in the back seat. Maybe that is just my public transportation. Go Seattle!
- Ellipsys, on 01/23/2008, -2/+18There are all kinds of relationships out there. Both those people look like they are of legal age and if they want to consent to a D/s relationship, or polyamory, etc... then that's their right. Its not like he's kidnapping her.

- Wootery, on 01/23/2008, -3/+7"and possibly the safety of people around her"
That's all that matters here - and I call *****.- pauldy, on 01/23/2008, -0/+1Your inability to see the inherent dangers in ridding around with a leash around your neck on public transportation is astounding. It could get caught and the bus driver unaware drives off possibly killing the woman now he has to live with the guilt of killing someone. If they are in a wreck and she or he is flung from the seat they don't let go of each other because of their "undying love" now it is a weapon that will inherently be about neck high that could cause harm to other people. Even seeing eye dogs they use a stiff plastic around the dog because it is less likely to cause harm in the event of some type of accident. If they agreed to lose the leash on the bus then the driver should be fired if the crux was their refusal to remove it then maybe they should grow up when in the world of adults and they can have fantasy time at home.
- Wootery, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1@pauldy

This doesn't seem like a real threat to the public. They want to put each other at risk, that's up to them.
"maybe they should grow up"
Indeed - I'm not defending their absurd actions, just their right to do it.
- GayMafiaKingpin, on 01/23/2008, -3/+2How is the chain a hazard to anyone? Would it get caught on another passing bus and drag them, as well as the entire bus full of passengers, with it? Or maybe some school children would decide to use it as a jump rope and it would strangle the poor dog? Or perhaps someone would think it's a rip cord and yank it like they are starting a lawnmower, hoping to see a parachute fly out the back of the bus? No, wait, some guy dressed in black might grab it and pretend that the woman attached to it is not a woman at all, but his little puppy... oh, wait.
On a side note... I see the couple as being a bit nutty but, hey, they aren't hurting anyone so let them on the damn bus. There are weirder people out there doing far weirder things. - Easyoffbam, on 01/23/2008, -0/+4Rimtard? That's a new one.

- Sheff, on 01/22/2008, -42/+12Wait until she gets kicked off the bus and her leash caught in the door as the driver pulls away. I think there is a safety issue here that no one is addressing. There is a reason you don't wear a tie when operating the drill press.

- Orion682, on 01/23/2008, -0/+2Did you just compare a bus to a drill press? Seriously?
Do you think people don't wear ties on the BUS? - Sheff, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1I'm comparing one potential danger to another. Look at the length of the leash in the photo. Apologies to the original poster, but I just picture some poor girl getting dragged down the street because she didn't think about the consequences of being 'different.'
Honestly, if I saw a goth getting dragged I would try to help and flag down the driver and make sure that the goth was okay and got medical attention, but I would laugh about it later on. Wearing a leash is a choice, and if it got caught in a door or an elevator or something like that, who do you blame? It's not the elevator's fault.
I'm know people wear ties on the bus, but they're much shorter. Have you never seen someone get their coat caught in a cab or seen someone's long skirt sticking out of a car door?
If someone's fashion choices causes them to suffer some minor prat fall, I'll laugh at them. No one is forcing anyone to dress this way.- Orion682, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1So we should ban people who wear long jackets and skirts from cabs and buses?
If something happened because of her leash, I agree, it's their fault, because they should've been paying attention. But that's not the case. You're making up a hypothetical situation to justify the driver's reaction, but that situation can happen to many people who don't get the same reaction. Keep in mind as well, the entire purpose of the leash is that it's attended to at both ends. The opposite end is NEVER dangling free, like a tie would, thus making it LESS likely to get caught in something, than say, a long jacket.
- Orion682, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1So we should ban people who wear long jackets and skirts from cabs and buses?

- wellyuk, on 01/23/2008, -0/+24Err.. it was in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire which is in England. Don't correct people when you don't know ***** yourself.
- solistus, on 01/23/2008, -0/+18Great Britain, the UK and England all have distinct meanings. England is a part of Great Britain, which is a part of the UK. West Yorkshire is in England, so all three labels are correct.

- GhostyBoy, on 01/23/2008, -2/+25She really wants a leash. No joke, it's like a really meaningful thing for people in BDSM relationships. Some are even intense enough to say it's like their version of a wedding ring.
- allisonaxe, on 01/23/2008, -3/+24see, thats very cool to me. you guys know what makes you happy, and if you're happy, I have to say, what the hell is wrong with that? congratulations on living your life in a way that is satisfying to YOU, as opposed to trying to fit into the mold of whatever the hell everyone else wants. Not everyone is so lucky. I envy you guys.

- RealHyperX, on 01/23/2008, -17/+6That means your girlfriend was abused as a youngster
- MadOtaku, on 01/23/2008, -0/+3Ok, I'll bite. Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that your baseless statement is true. I'll do that because quite often people like you will refuse to have any "facts" you assert refuted, but can still often be reasoned with as you aren't stupid; just closed minded.
So what if she was? Is she not allowed to do what makes her feel better and happier because she was a victim of abuse? What's done is done and the best thing she could do would be to live her life in the way that makes her feel best. If having someone dominate her makes her comfortable, why should she not have that comfort?- RealHyperX, on 01/23/2008, -0/+1did i say anything was wrong with that? these types of signs do tell a story, and if anything, maybe keeping your future kids from whoever did this abuse may be a good idea.

i'd chalk this up as "disorderly" and "horseplay" like any other kids 13 or 14 being childish and they got treated like it. Society may be "understanding" but there is certain behavior expected to be in public. This is not it.- PathDaemon, on 01/23/2008, -1/+11Disrespectful to who, exactly?
Clearly not to her. - oxdeltaxo, on 01/23/2008, -2/+11It's their decision, meaning the girl volunteers to be treated like she is. Who are you to say its wrong if it harms no one and is entirely voluntary?

- Fordi, on 01/23/2008, -0/+3Why do people care what's "Normal"?
If normal is defined as a floating target that represent the common traits of the first standard deviation from the average of a particular culture, that means at least 1/3 of the people you meet are not normal.

- sw33tsarin, on 01/22/2008, -41/+94How is that attention whoring any different than the dudes I see walking around in muscle tees and undershirts or the women who wear extremely short skirts and ridiculously plunging necklines in frickin january? I think that screams "LOOK AT ME!" more than anything.
- Grommy, on 01/22/2008, -4/+118It's not any different at all, but Dipster never claimed it wasn't.
- stubear, on 01/22/2008, -18/+9The difference is the latter is worth looking at, the former not so much.
- norman619, on 01/22/2008, -19/+13Yes but they don't degrade someone else to get the attention. Come on man. Walking someone around on a leash is pretty sad. I feel bad for the girl since she seems to be OK with the treatment.
- WootZoot, on 01/22/2008, -2/+21She seems to want it. I would feel bad for her if she didn't.
- Syric, on 01/22/2008, -1/+23Well, in my opinion, to each their own. So if she's OK with it, what business do I have feeling sorry for her? Feeling sorry for someone because of what makes them happy is kinda messed up.
- norman619, on 01/22/2008, -10/+6Yes to each their own but it shows how little she thinks of herself.
- jawbreaker4fs, on 01/22/2008, -4/+8I feel sorry for her because what makes her happy IS kinda messed up.
- sougly, on 01/22/2008, -1/+5I feel sorry for norman619 because what makes her happy makes him feel sorry for her.
- yournightmare, on 01/23/2008, -1/+3@ norman619: (can't reply to his comment above for some reason)
It's called FANTASY, it has absolutely nothing to do with what she thinks of herself. In fact, there's a damn good chance she thinks pretty highly of herself, or her ego wouldn't be able to handle being degraded. What is kinda messed up is the fact that you would be so presumptuous as to assume how this girl feels about herself. I've met quite a few complete egomaniacs who are into "weird" sexual stuff like domination, being degraded, fantasy rape, etc. IT'S A GAME, IT'S ROLEPLAYING.

- Vampsy, on 01/23/2008, -1/+2Does this mean that because I hate wearing short shorts and micro minis with half my ***** hanging out my top, that whatever else I wear, black or not, I'm screaming "look at me look at me???"
There's this old virtue called "modesty"...some of us still like to practice it, we don't like having our bodies on display, whether they are worth displaying or not.

- sw33tsarin, on 01/23/2008, -0/+1Because thats the ENTIRE case behind my reasoning, you've figured me out. I have absolutely nothing to be jealous about, try posting some pictures and we can see from whom the jealousy really stems.
- Ayrapetov, on 01/23/2008, -3/+9It isn't the same thing because the guys in muscle shirts and girls in short skirts dont think they're cool because they're different. That's the problem with goths. They think they're being different and original.
- sw33tsarin, on 01/23/2008, -2/+2You don't get out much do you? The guys and girls you're seemingly defending have some of the most inflated egos I've ever come across. - hobbers, on 01/22/2008, -7/+24Or maybe bus drivers just hate leeches? From the article:
"The couple, who live on benefits in a council house and plan to start a family, have been friends for years."
I'm not familiar with the UK system, but it sounds like they are living on welfare in public housing. And they plan on starting a family. Wow. What a couple of losers. You're in your late teens/early 20s. Go get a ***** job.- Dymphna, on 01/23/2008, -2/+12It's a type of social housing system.
Oh yes, I am sure the bus driver did a detailed character analysis when he judged them on how they looked. - Fordi, on 01/23/2008, -1/+4In a system that provides for such things, you're going to get leeches. Period. And I personally don't think they should feel bad about it either; the service is there, so in a capitalist society, you'd be a fool not to take advantage.
In short, don't hate the playa; hate the game.
Fun thing is, we get the power to collectively change the game. How about doing that rather than focusing on bitching about a pair of 'Interview with a Vampire' rejects? - Suricou, on 01/23/2008, -0/+3Yes, thats about right. The benefits people do try to poke people in the direction of work as hard as they can, but they arn't willing to let someone starve, so what can they do? Still, its not the role of a bus driver to deny people service just because of a personal dislike.
- Dymphna, on 01/23/2008, -2/+12It's a type of social housing system.
- Memitim, on 01/23/2008, -1/+13What do you mean by "even?" Who in the hell don't bus drivers hate? If I was a bus driver, I'd hate everyone, too.

- Dymphna, on 01/23/2008, -1/+2and I've met some and they were cool, and I've met some who were losers.
Funny thing, how you look has no relation to whether or not you are a cool person. Since they are being barred from the bus purely on terms of how they look (and they weren't indecently deressed), the bus driver was in the wrong. - Fordi, on 01/23/2008, -1/+1Eh. You've had an unfortunate run. I've met loser goths and brilliant ones. Just as I have punks, thugs, emo kids, indies, and even (gasp!) preps. Point is, fashion is irrelevant. Sooner you get that through your skull, the sooner you'll start meeting some interesting people, losers and winners alike.
- Kallahan, on 01/23/2008, -0/+1Definitely yes. And that you can say "goths are loser" is completely retarded. Have you met every ***** Goth in the entire world? I've met a few and every single one I ever met was pretty cool.

- Cloud7654, on 01/23/2008, -1/+3I only know about 4 goths and its about a 50/50 split whether or not they are cool. To make a sweeping generalization saying all goths are losers or that they are all cool is completely ignorant.
- digitalarcanum, on 01/23/2008, -1/+4In some aspects I agree with some of the comments here. Goths can sometimes really suck for the same reasons any other group of people suck: they can be pompous assholes who think that their ***** don't stink, while others of the same grouping can be really nice people. But for the most part, yeah, most people that consider themselves "goth" are pompous assholes who don't really have or rely on any sort of a social movement, but rather a fashionable alienation from other people
tl;dr: just because you dress differently from others does not mean you're leading a social revolution.
- MacHarborGuy, on 01/22/2008, -8/+56yeah, people have the right to dress up any way they wish..

Here's the thing: I was a goth boy back in 1992. I've since grown out of it, and it's nice to see it's still around. Meanwhile, was a style well befre the Martix.- adamrgolf, on 01/23/2008, -2/+4you haven't grown out of it.
- Fordi, on 01/23/2008, -1/+2What makes you think so? More importantly, how on earth would you know?
Seriously; I haven't ascribed to any particular fashion since college, when I figured out that it was all pretty much just which mask you felt like wearing. These days, I identify myself by slightly more concrete means. You know, code poet, microsocial activist, political junkie, occasional writer, guitarist, boyfriend, etc. You know, things I can do and people who I care about and can help.
How do you identify yourself, aside from being a purveyor of snark?- natedouglas, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1> "How do you identify yourself, aside from being a purveyor of snark?"
That's the thing. I have this condition. I have no memory. No. It's different [from amnesia]. I have no short-term memory. I know who I am and all about myself, but since my injury I can't make any new memories. Everything fades. If we talk for too long, I'll forget how we started. I don't know if we've ever met before, and the next time I see you I won't remember this conversation. So if I seem strange or rude, that's probably...
hmm. What were you asking?
- natedouglas, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1> "How do you identify yourself, aside from being a purveyor of snark?"

- l0tharnt, on 01/22/2008, -15/+9Too bad for you...people were dressing like that for YEARS before the matrix...you lose :(
- mverta, on 01/22/2008, -98/+536She said it herself, "I am a pet..." Okay, well pets aren't allowed on the bus; get the ***** off. It was a great call.
- CdyVnd, on 01/22/2008, -27/+8fantastic point
- lilaliend, on 01/22/2008, -19/+6Couldn't have said it better.
- swrostmore, on 01/22/2008, -29/+20No, "dogs" are not allowed on the bus. Pet != dog, you fail.
- RonnieW, on 01/23/2008, -9/+1dugg for the "not is" :)
- mikebaldwin67, on 01/23/2008, -4/+1dog=pet ergo pet=dog, you fail!
- lrdntwnd, on 01/23/2008, -0/+2There are no identity properties for words like that. A dog is a pet; every dog is a pet. Some pets are dogs, but not all pets are dogs. Your logic fails. Sorry.
- Lemm, on 01/23/2008, -0/+3Yep, no "dogs" allowed. But cats, lizards, mice, turtles, mules, songbirds, fish, salamanders, chickens, ferrets, parrots, guinea pigs, sheep, ants, hampsters, and the occasional pet rock are all ok.
- Vampsy, on 01/23/2008, -0/+0I've taken fish home from the petshop on the bus with no complaints.
Correct me if I'm wrong...please do...but if I purchase a fish from a petshop with intentions of keeping it as a pet...is it not classed as a pet?
Therefore it shouldn't be allowed on the bus...right?
- Vampsy, on 01/23/2008, -0/+0I've taken fish home from the petshop on the bus with no complaints.
- repustech, on 01/22/2008, -24/+27wow... I'm sure you wouldn't say that if it was two gay dudes or girls they banned off the bus. If I understand correctly it's a "lifestyle choice". They may be attention whores, but it's what makes them happy. Most movie starts are attention whores and you don't treat them that way. Sounds like you need to do a little checking into your own life.
- allhard, on 01/22/2008, -16/+20Yes, but they do not consider themselves pets. Pets are not allowed on public transit pretty much anywhere, and since she identifies herself as a pet then she is not allowed on the bus. Get it now?
- repustech, on 01/22/2008, -5/+21Well i can say I consider myself an elf, but it doest make it so. Both are still very human regardless of what they "consider themselves".
- GyroTech, on 01/22/2008, -1/+12It's the UK - pets are allowed on public transport as long as they are kept under control.
- SlimFastForYou, on 01/23/2008, -2/+3That's the most intellectually lazy argument I've seen all day. So tell us oh wise one, WHY are pets banned? In case you can't think for yourself I'll give you a hint: some humans are allergic to other species. Whether you go by the letter of the law or the spirit of the law, you and the bus driver are just plain wrong. My theory on why some people turn goth is because there are so many ***** in the world that they just end up developing a dreary outlook because of it.
- Garbagio, on 01/23/2008, -0/+1@allhard
You had a decent post up until your theory. People are people. Some like clams, some like starfish, some can't stand jam with peanut butter, and theories of why you still don't eat your vegetables can land anywhere between bad parenting, apathy, or just a plain old dislike for vegetables. They are who they are and they're human on top of that. I'm willing to respect them like any other person I've met until proven I should act otherwise. Respect coming first and foremost will bring understanding. Do that for anyone you come across, and you may find that they've got a neatly packed bunch of pulpy organs like yourself. Eat, breathe, smell, and drink the same way you do (open for speculation). And they may even require some understanding to get through to others with differing views rather than blind prejudice. It's up to you to decide if you make everyone's days better or worse.
- crzdmn, on 01/22/2008, -11/+24So where does everyone get off on calling them "attention whores". They like their lifestyle, and the ONLY reason they're getting attention is because of ignorant people like the bus driver discriminating against them for how they dress and act.
Discrimination is discrimination you don't get to pick and choose who and what it applies to.- Xinareiaz, on 01/23/2008, -0/+3They're just ignorant, quit being so ignorant.. /MJ
- Fordi, on 01/23/2008, -1/+2But I like to discriminate when I discriminate!
- ProducedRaw, on 01/23/2008, -0/+2No, discrimination applies to things people don't choose. For example race and sexual orientation. When we're talking about some dude who walks his girlfriend on a leash then what anyone thinks of it becomes an opinion since their lifestyle is a choice. I'm sure many of you are anti-fascism, this is an opinion not discrimination. Ofcourse the bus driver was out of line by not letting them on but I wouldn't call this discrimination as much as non-professional behaviour. Opinion is opinion and you DO get to pick and choose who and what it applies to.
- Vampsy, on 01/23/2008, -1/+0Its discrimination. Plain and simple. You are discriminating against them for their lifestyle choice, which is no different to someone deciding that their lifestyle choice is to be gay.
- whatwhatwhoa, on 02/01/2008, -0/+1For the most part, gay people can't choose. I mean, who would want to choose to be seen as the "unnatural" by most of society?
- Jookly, on 01/23/2008, -2/+9They don't look happy to me
- triskele, on 01/23/2008, -1/+1Last I checked being homosexual wasn't a lifestyle choice.
- allhard, on 01/22/2008, -16/+20Yes, but they do not consider themselves pets. Pets are not allowed on public transit pretty much anywhere, and since she identifies herself as a pet then she is not allowed on the bus. Get it now?
- TomTruelle, on 01/23/2008, -11/+4She also said "It's my culture and my choice". Last time I checked, dressing in dark clothes and writing suicide letters wasn't considered a "culture".
- Dymphna, on 01/23/2008, -5/+12because she said she writes suicide letters?
Or are you just making gross generalizations about somebody based on appearance, much like the bus driver who is probably going to (rightfully) lose his job- TomTruelle, on 01/23/2008, -2/+3IMO, gross generalizations are hilarious 99% of the time. In conclusion, the bus driver did it for the lulz.
- Memitim, on 01/23/2008, -2/+5Where did you check this last time? Seems to me that as soon as you say "goth" that the methodologies of belief, social behavior, and practices are readily known.
Culture: "3. shared beliefs and values of group: the beliefs, customs, practices, and social behavior of a particular nation or people"
Checking in with your own personal stereotypes does not constitute a change in the English language.- TomTruelle, on 01/23/2008, -2/+2I meant this culture...
