- CiXeL, on 03/19/2008, -1/+2it SOUNDS funny to people from other parts of the country but its basically a control on our massively ghetto population.
there are many ghettos in florida where they shoot the streetlights out so no one can see whats going on.
no sense in changing them either since they'll just get shot out again.

- WiseWeasel, on 03/19/2008, -17/+76Can't they just let schools and cities determine this? What the hell is the point in a state law, other than allowing Florida police to hassle people who look like gangbangers? This is just a tool for the harassment of a marginalized group of people.

- CiXeL, on 03/19/2008, -1/+1i lived in LA, black people are different in LA, black people in miami for the most part underclass and into ghetto culture.
this doesnt apply to some of the caribbean blacks.
people are not the same all over.
i remember moving here and driving cross country and we stopped at a gas station in a black part of town and they were all starting at us like they wanted us to go away. i had never experienced that before on the west coast. very strange.

- AriaStar, on 03/19/2008, -4/+11Um, it's Florida. Haven't you heard half the stuff that comes out of that state? If it's a dumb criminal or a WTF? story, chances are it's from Florida. They just like to stay on the radar.
- CiXeL, on 03/19/2008, -0/+1we're drowning in ghetto culture here and crime is sky high. its basically bandaids on a pumping artery.
down here in miami 30 some people float shore from cuba or haiti EVERY WEEK.
most of them not used to living in a modern environment. they immediately get a car and start driving without any prior knowledge and drive the wrong way on roads and kill people. something like 50% of miami dade drivers have no insurance.
every couple weeks they find bodies washed up on shore or dismembered bodies floating in the canals from heinous murders that never get figured out and they never catch the badguy.
theres a reason people are moving the hell away from here.
sure digg me down but why the hell would i lie about crap like this? what do i have to gain from it?

- Slowtruck, on 03/22/2008, -0/+0I wouldn't worry about it, even if it were law I would doubt it would be enforced. Also keep in mind the people who are pushing this in Florida, old retirees that have moved in from someplace like New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Michigan & lets not forget about the boat people that arrive weekly. They can have it, I lived there for 37 yrs, had enough, they can have it. I can imagine most of the guys that wear they're pants that way don't realize that they are stating that they are wanting to have sex with another man.
- Qtip42, on 03/19/2008, -3/+12You should be dug up..
- Persondude, on 03/19/2008, -3/+54Whats with the naked guy in the pic? LOL, guess his pants fell all the way off!

- Member148, on 03/19/2008, -5/+59I wonder what Florida will do about thongs and bikini's on beaches, and being subjected to those daily unsightly butt cracks by workman.
- nateabel, on 03/19/2008, -9/+5Notice how it says "PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS". Besides, it isn't about how little clothing you are wearing, it is about looking like a thug.
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -3/+13I see a lot of people sagging their pants who aren't trying to look like a "thug".
- slowmo, on 03/19/2008, -1/+6Like who? Plumbers?
- rjc5056, on 03/19/2008, -2/+9Nah. Your average college student, or really most males under the age of 25 (who wear boxers) have a greater chance of sagging a little. It's just an intrinsic part of the Millenial generations culture. Hell, I do my best to stay as far away from "thug" as I can, but I have a hard time not exposing a bit of boxer when I'm not in work outfits. The clothes are just cut different these days.
- curtisag, on 03/19/2008, -0/+3Use a ***** belt man, it works for my boxers and jeans.
- Spudster, on 03/19/2008, -2/+6We can't have our children looking like members of society we marginalize!
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -3/+13I see a lot of people sagging their pants who aren't trying to look like a "thug".
- Abomonog, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2Thongs are illegal in Florida already. Have been since 1989. But the only counties that actively enforce this law are Sarasota and Charlotte that I know of.
- DanOnTheMoon, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2...and the people haven't risen up with pitchforks and shotguns? What is wrong with this country?!
- LMaxey, on 03/19/2008, -0/+1Haven't heard of the thong law, but then again I was born in 89 and moved to Sarasota a few years back. I can say however that they definitely don't enforce the thong law in Sarasota. You should hit Siesta Key sometime during summer season.
- nateabel, on 03/19/2008, -9/+5Notice how it says "PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS". Besides, it isn't about how little clothing you are wearing, it is about looking like a thug.
- Continuum, on 03/19/2008, -4/+39"The Florida city of Riviera Beach passed its own saggy pants law on Tuesday, with a maximum penalty of 60 days in jail for repeat offenders."
But what about that revealing clothing women wear? I doubt any women will never go to jail for letting her thong hang out or wearing booty shorts in public.
Also the article says that some of the kids "exposing flesh or underwear". If you are going commando with baggy pants, that's a WHOLE other fashion statement.- bingobongony, on 03/19/2008, -3/+4So...because you are GUESSING that the laws won't be applied to women that makes it a fact?
- Abomonog, on 03/19/2008, -1/+4Actually it's no guess. This law WON'T be applied to women, or white men for that matter. The law is totally racially motivated and will most likely be applied to black man only.
- logan074, on 03/19/2008, -0/+4The law clearly states that it is only aimed at black men? Please italicize.
- usherzx, on 03/19/2008, -0/+1lmao
- TheSwashbuckler, on 03/19/2008, -0/+3Well, the bill's sponsor (Gary Siplin) IS a black man, so he apparently doesn't think that would be a problem...
- Slowtruck, on 03/22/2008, -0/+0I'm actually like to shake Gary Siplins hand. Seeing what a bad image this is and I'm sure he didn't see it as a "gangsta" look but more of a I'm too stupid to get the right pants size so I have to walk around holding my pants up all day look.
- logan074, on 03/19/2008, -0/+4The law clearly states that it is only aimed at black men? Please italicize.
- omnithought, on 03/19/2008, -13/+83I'm on the fence about this. I hate intrusive laws as much as I hate seeing douchebags with their pants hanging halfway down their ass.
- asurroca, on 03/19/2008, -3/+27There's no reason to be on the fence. The government should not regular poor fashion choices. This is outrageous BS.
- PolishLogic, on 03/19/2008, -4/+11It's a catch 22. Without an actual law, a public school would open itself up to legal action if it punished a child for breaking the school's own dress code. It's happened a number of times already with different clothing or accessory bans by individual public schools. That's what puts me on the fence here.
On one hand, I think it's silly to make a law, but on the other hand it pisses me off that a parent would sue a school because they feel their child should be able to break a school rule without repercussions. Sort of a "what's more ridiculous" thing.- TheSwashbuckler, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2"Without an actual law, a public school would open itself up to legal action if it punished a child for breaking the school's own dress code."
Even with a law it would do so. In the U.S. you can sue anyone for any thing at any time. - Azselendor, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1they can pass all the laws they want, it boils down to enforcement
If Florida police dept and DA's office can't prosecute bad checks in the thousands, tens of thousnads, hundreds of thousands because "they don't have the time" (actual statement from the DA's office) then what makes you think they'll waste time on this law.
- TheSwashbuckler, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2"Without an actual law, a public school would open itself up to legal action if it punished a child for breaking the school's own dress code."

- xlar54, on 03/19/2008, -0/+9Im not... I actually oppose this.. Because its easier to pick out the morons this way. As a parent, this kind of thing is an immediate red flag for who my kids ought to be around. Let em keep it.
- bjornski, on 03/19/2008, -0/+9And it's a lot easier for the cops to chase the runners when they require one hand holding their pants up to run.

- xlar54, on 03/19/2008, -2/+18Quite the racist are we? Ive seen many a white kid parading around wearing the same stupid garb. It screams "Im a moron, and cant dress myself". i go to another part of the country and everyone looks familiar to me because i am not used to seeing non-latin faces but i am familiar with the facial characteristics.
you dont hear any normal music here, just latin stuff and mainstream pop.
i drive to orlando and realize bands i like have come out with cds i never knew about.
living in miami is like living in a blackhole. time moves around you but you have no idea because the american culture has been replaced by a latin culture and for the most part you're not invited (there is alot of racism towards whites especially in south miami-dade)

- bxblox, on 03/19/2008, -5/+37This is dumb and so is whoever proposed it. Exposed underwear?? This from a state where woman think bikini tops are shirts.
/link is dead btw- bxblox, on 03/19/2008, -2/+11*women
- masterm1nd, on 03/19/2008, -0/+4Yes, misspelled and modifying key word.
- Spudster, on 03/19/2008, -2/+4First it started with women not being allowed to be visible in public with bathing suits. As time progressed, women were allowed to bathe in water with men as long as both genders wore full bathing suits. Eventually, the shirts on men came off while women expanded their fashion into midriff exposing bikini's. In public schools, there was a moral outcry when women began wearing skirts exposing the ankles, this continued as dresses shrank above the knees. As time continued, clothing styles slowly became more and more tolerant.
History demonstrates that there is a long history of using clothing to repress and marginalize people into social roles. This law inherits its origins from a long history of laws that attempt to enforce social control.- surKaz, on 03/19/2008, -0/+3so.... very soon, we'll all be European at the beaches??..

- bosssmiley, on 03/19/2008, -0/+1Sumptuary laws? In 2008? I think we got rid of those in Europe somewhere back in the 16th century...
- duality, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1You may be right, but I still feel it's necessary to catch you on another matter: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_Law
Besides, if they're going to base a law on origins of fashions, then they at least need to get their facts straight.
From the article:
"Despite being the butt of jokes, the bill's sponsor, Orlando Sen. Gary Siplin, a Democrat, has said the fashion statement has a back-story -- it was made popular by rap artists after first appearing among prison inmates as a signal they were looking for sex."

- ucdbunny, on 03/19/2008, -1/+30Now i'm put off by saggy pants just as much as the next guy, but you cant have your cake and eat it too. These laws are unconsitutional because as long as their not showing any nudity there shouldn't be a ban on what they can and cant wear. This is just creeping towards the government telling you what your allowed to wear, next it will be what you eat, what you can read, write, say....do you get the point?
- pintomp3, on 03/19/2008, -0/+11i may not agree with what you wear, but i'll defend your right to wear it.

we're a group of 4 white people walking down 8th street towards south beach during the superbowl.
there are large clusters of black men in front of us, many with gold teeth or grills and ghetto clothes standing around on the street corners staring at us and they're all holding beer bottles. a couple broken beer bottles are scattered in the street. this is right in front of the beach and we have to walk through them to get to it.
i have nothing against black people especially the ones from places other than miami but given the scene i just relived for you tell me you wouldnt be a little nervous. - lightningrod220, on 03/19/2008, -1/+1This may not even be racism. I've seen a lot of white guys with "droopy pants", and it just looks stupid, as well as pointing out the fact that they think they're the coolest ***** to ever walk the earth, and they may cause you problems if you get near them. Here in Chicago, whenever I see someone with sagging pants, they're usually drunk, too.
Not to mention it has "douche" written all over it.- supermanred, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1I don't like the food you eat, and I think it's bad for you. I want it to be illegal to eat that food. 60 days in jail.

Who invited grandpa to the meeting?- bingobongony, on 03/19/2008, -2/+5He is right.
- RyeBrye, on 03/19/2008, -0/+10FTA: "[he] said the fashion statement has a back-story -- it was made popular by rap artists after first appearing among prison inmates as a signal they were looking for sex."
Umm... How do you sag an orange jumpsuit down below your crack. This "origin" of the fashion is ludicrous. In the 90's people were sagging pants and showing off boxers - has the fad come back so soon?- PdxPhoenix, on 03/19/2008, -0/+1http://www.snopes.com/risque/homosex/sagging.asp
limited sizes of clothes for inmates - belts = saggy pants
in this case 1+1 != 2 (just sayin')

- usingpond, on 03/19/2008, -4/+17This is a critical blow to wiggers everywhere.
- PaddyJ, on 03/19/2008, -3/+12This is just another example of overly harsh crack laws
- LMaxey, on 03/19/2008, -0/+3It felt so wrong to digg you up.
- Evolutuon, on 03/19/2008, -11/+7Thank god, I was getting tired of these idiots' fashion statement.

False.
http://www.snopes.com/risque/homosex/sagging.asp - NSResponder, on 03/19/2008, -2/+20This fails on first amendment grounds. The Florida legislature is pandering here, and they know damned well that they have no power to ban clothing styles.
-jcr- TheSwashbuckler, on 03/19/2008, -1/+2If that were true, then you could legally walk around naked in public...
- jwhitman89, on 03/19/2008, -3/+20People who wear baggy pants are already trend-whoring idiots. Why do we need to punish them further?
- bingobongony, on 03/19/2008, -1/+8True! What is next, laws against people with iPhones?
- SpectreFire, on 03/19/2008, -0/+11Damn, all the douchebags are gonna have to vamp up to 6 collars now if they want to keep their cool levels the same.
- sleepyjjk, on 03/19/2008, -1/+10As much as I don't like kids dressing like that, I think that this is a stupid bill altogether.
This fashion fad will eventually die out (just like any other fashion trend), forcing it to die out with a law will just postpone its eventual death.
Plus, the school dress code is something the school needs to regulate, not the state. - CH3CH2OH, on 03/19/2008, -2/+17"it was made popular by rap artists after first appearing among prison inmates as a signal they were looking for sex."
Maybe State Sen. Gary ***** should take a look at Snopes.com:
http://www.snopes.com/risque/homosex/sagging.asp
Claim: The status of sagging one's pants was born of a prison mode of signaling sexual availability.
Status: False- Spudster, on 03/19/2008, -1/+6Why are people digging you down? Good job finding that, someone should hold his feet to the fire for saying that.
- RayG68, on 03/19/2008, -1/+4I think it did come from prisons, though from the fact that no prisoners have clothes that fit.
- Qtip42, on 03/19/2008, -2/+7Are you kidding me? This is just another reason to harass people who aren't hurting a thing......The guy who thought up this law should be punched in the face for wasting time trying to create it.
So because the origin means someone is looking for sex, it should be banned? because it's from prison? Are you seriously hearing yourself speak? God I wish I could punch people through the internet. - KaiStrikes415, on 03/19/2008, -1/+9I am actually against this law, but probably for different reasons from some of you people.
Just think about it, Cops will probably have a easier chance chasing down those "teens" who
would probably trip over themselves due to their saggy pants. - dsoltesz, on 03/19/2008, -0/+11Plumbers and handymen beware!
- Trollmaster, on 03/19/2008, -10/+2poor n_ggers
- srufus, on 03/19/2008, -4/+6Why can't these people pull their pants up on their own? Don't they have any common sense to display their underwear and call it style? Why do they need a law? and still people don't understand and write comments against the law.
- bjornski, on 03/19/2008, -0/+3True. The law isn't needed. And it's a lot easier than making these kids wear a "retard" sign.
- yergi, on 03/19/2008, -3/+10....so forcing a woman to wear a burka is oppressive, but forcing a guy to wear pants a certain way isn't?
The hypocrisy is so deep I need a snorkle.- alexally4406, on 03/19/2008, -3/+1At least in a burka she looks more decent than the stupid ass showing his underwear all over the place.
- supermanred, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1Fashion police. There goes freedom.
- alexally4406, on 03/19/2008, -3/+1At least in a burka she looks more decent than the stupid ass showing his underwear all over the place.
- RayG68, on 03/19/2008, -9/+3The style came from prison where you don't get clothes that fit (like unlaced shoes). What does it say about a society that so many young black men wind up in jail the dress becomes part of the culture. And these laws are about finding yet another way of enforcing white supremacy.
- oilcan, on 03/19/2008, -2/+8FASHION POLICE
- JuniorVX, on 03/19/2008, -5/+6Why does it matter if they wanna to show their underware or just have some baggy ass pants does it effect you? No unless you're that insecure that it makes uncomfortable and have to criticize it. Oh wait America is built on insecurities duhh
- jkash23686, on 03/19/2008, -1/+6one more reason im moving out of this god forsaken state in the coming months and back to civilization. Effing state needs to worry about important things like...... ummm i dunno learning to follow rules and run elections when and how they need to be run.
- CiXeL, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2you're angry about the primary elections thing too?
its effing criminal. heads should roll over this crap.

- supermanred, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2USA is *****. Move north before it's too late. We have cake, beer and you can wear your pants any way you want. Canada. Home of the brave and the land of the free.
Times and things change, but right now I think Canada is the top of ***** Mountain.- muxaulo, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1Come to Australia, we don't wear pants and we consume ***** loads of beer

- 0Zeitgeist0, on 03/19/2008, -3/+1This legislation only reinforce the fact that parents are failing to raise their children to be respectable individuals.
- supermanred, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1You can be a respectable individual with saggy pants, you can also be a non-respectable despised individual and be the President.
- chrisinsocalif, on 03/19/2008, -0/+3I don't like droopy pants but I hate how the government is trying to control how we wear clothing. What other laws will be passed where we lose even more of our freedoms?
