- MyDiggIsBig, on 02/17/2008, -4/+126So one day i was jumping on a trampoline and i jumped really high. I was able to see over my neighbors fence, and some really hot looking girl was sunbathing by the pool. So i kept jumping to get a better look. Soon she noticed me and started to laugh. I said Hi. She said Hi. I yelled out my name and so did she. I was too embarrassed to do anything else, so i ran back inside. I went on facebook and my level 40 facebook stalking skills paid off, for i found her. I added her as a friend right away. An hour later she accepted, and we have been friends for 2 months now. I mean she does live next door, but we haven't run into each other, so we have messaged back and forth a couple times, but until yesterday, I hadn't seen her since that day. So yesterday i saw her finally, and she came over and we starting talking. She told me to come inside to her house, her parents were gone for the day. I quickly went inside. We talked a bit and had some lemonade, and soon she started taking her pants off. She took off her underware and wanted me to smell them. I went in for a whiff when she suddenly started strangling me with her panties. I thought i was going to die, so I quickly picked up the a knife which i always hide in my pants and stabbed her in the face. Her parents came home and i killed them too. I went to her computer and went on her facebook, i changed her status and made it say, "hey guys im moviing to my uncle and auntie's house in Bel-Air." I never got arrested, they think she is still alive. bless you facebook
- princess1012, on 02/17/2008, -4/+78I don't know if I have a great deal of sympathy for those people who voluntarily post in public about how monumentally stupid they are.
- bromac, on 02/17/2008, -2/+59Said it before, I'll say it again...
DON'T PUBLISH INFORMATION YOU DON'T WANT PUBLIC.
That's why it's called publishing.
That is all. - Craga89, on 02/17/2008, -4/+59BREAKING: Writing anything anywhere can potentially ruin your life
- inactive, on 02/17/2008, -3/+45if you use Bebo, i think your life has already been ruined
- picpak, on 02/17/2008, -1/+43"Last month, for example, a hacker downloaded half a million private pictures from MySpace and made them available on the file-sharing site BitTorrent."
BitTorrent itself isn't a file-sharing site...morons. - greenblob, on 02/17/2008, -0/+36Could you use this to your advantage? I guess I should join some charity groups on Facebook...
- badwithcomputer, on 02/17/2008, -3/+31so can digg...
- chicoer2001, on 02/17/2008, -0/+23FTA: Few people bother to read the fine print of a social network site's agreement, and the consequences of using one can occur in the most unexpected ways. A Newport Pagnell man, for instance, was ordered by magistrates not to contact his estranged wife, but when he joined Facebook, an automatic "friend request" was sent to everyone on his email list, including his former partner. She contacted police; the man was arrested and got 10 days in jail.
What a bitch. - dyranios2, on 02/17/2008, -0/+18yeah I got fired from my job and they printed out every social site I had made, every stupid quote and work photo in front of me, oh man that was embarrassing, I took them to an employment tribunal and so the same print outs would be used again in front of a tribunal, they settled the day before though so all was well
- mk47k, on 02/17/2008, -0/+18If you just realized this , its probably too late !
- capiCrimm, on 02/17/2008, -0/+17that reminds me of the time I raped and killed my mother, then went off and started a pedophile ring. Good thing I'm hiding at 75 Rockefeller Plaza, New York, NY 10019. No one will ever find me.
- Rikkochet, on 02/17/2008, -0/+16Journalists don't know the details of what they're talking about, duh.
- Aidje, on 02/17/2008, -1/+16"And last summer, Oxford University proctors disciplined students after pictures of them dousing each other in shaving foam, flour and silly string in post-exam revelry were found on their Facebook pages."
What's the big problem with shaving foam, flour, and silly string? - encrypter, on 02/17/2008, -2/+16Kevin Rose?
- BinkyStuttocks, on 02/17/2008, -0/+13The only sensible course of action is to remain unemployed so I can continue posting lewd pictures on facebook.
- sporg, on 02/17/2008, -0/+12How can anyone think even for a second that anything posted online is private in any way?
- humanerror, on 04/03/2008, -2/+14this also happened to me
- KaJuN4, on 02/17/2008, -0/+12I miss the days when you could only get fired for something you did (or didn't do) while actually AT work.
- Rodalli, on 02/17/2008, -3/+14This was fantastic, even despite the wall of text. Extra points for a Fresh Prince ending!
- pilot3033, on 02/17/2008, -0/+10well that's what you get for following the crowd
- Emnsta, on 02/17/2008, -0/+10Who puts their real name and real picture on digg?
- DangerCollie, on 02/17/2008, -0/+10Hold on a sec. This doesn't just apply to social networking sites. This is every type of personal information about you in every database anywhere. DNA, blood tests, medical records, banking information, taxes, arrest records, your credit report. Facebook and social media sites are only the most obvious examples of how helpless you are...we all are...in how personal information is handled, regardless of how it's collected.
We're getting near the point something's gotta give. Your personal data has a significant dollar value attached to it. A value completely lost to you. At some point we have to decide who owns our data. - RobotBuddha, on 02/17/2008, -0/+9More fear mongering from old people scared of the internet. This could also be called, "Kodak and their new fangled cameras could ruin your life!" or "Talking to people and having them remember things you said could ruin your life!" And how are these people even scanning the invite only facebook pages?
- toastjam, on 02/17/2008, -2/+11It makes more sense if you have friends...
- deviouskoopa, on 02/17/2008, -0/+9Well I don't think you understand, everyone on my friend's list HAS to see me holding a Solo cup and hanging on 5 guys!! How else would I make friends?
- tavisjohn, on 02/17/2008, -0/+8Blaming those sites for your life being ruined is like blaming spelling errors on your pen, or blaming guns for murdering people!
If you post sensitive stuff on a social networking site, you DESERVE to have your life ruined!
Here is a simple rule of thumb to determine if you should post something online or not...
Would you stand in the middle of a crowd and yell it? I not, than DO NOT PUT IT ONLINE! - jcaino, on 02/17/2008, -0/+7yea, but at least you can't just claim you weren't aware. then you're just stupid.
- Rodalli, on 02/17/2008, -0/+7Also, you can set your preferences so that only people you've friended can view your profiles, pics, send you messages, etc. I'm sure the same is true of MySpace. The real problem here is people being stupid enough to leave their profiles open AND post implicating stuff. People need to get over this idea of the internet as it was in the 90's, when everyone was no one. Nowadays, you can find the identity of just about anyone online if you're willing to do some work.
- mrsteveman1, on 02/17/2008, -0/+6Warnings are intended to limit the damage caused by a product to just idiots instead of everyone.
- thejeremy, on 02/17/2008, -0/+6Facebook may ruin your life, but where else could you combat werewolves, zombies, AND vampires?
- xXShadowstormXx, on 02/17/2008, -3/+9Doesn't count.
- mst3kcrow, on 02/17/2008, -1/+7If you post something on a social networking site, assume it will be public knowledge. Apparently this is too tough for some people to comprehend.
- chikoos, on 02/17/2008, -8/+13In cigar packs the warning sign is printed. similarly such a logo should be placed right in front of the sites.(Not a great deterrent though. Cos we've seen that didn't work with smokers.)
- overkilpro, on 02/17/2008, -0/+5i've been thinking of deleting mine for the same reason. im tired of getting 50 facebook emails a day, 50+ notifications/ app invites, and endless amounts of chain mail. Why would someone send an invite for "What's your stripper name?" or "What hamburger are you?" Who wants that crap?
- VaporBro, on 02/17/2008, -1/+6Epic.
- inactive, on 02/17/2008, -1/+6make a photo album full of nuns.
it'll make you look like a very religious man - Magnus150, on 02/17/2008, -0/+5Thats livejournal
- Thugacation, on 02/17/2008, -0/+4You can go into your account options to turn off the email notification feature.
- MissDeeJay, on 02/17/2008, -2/+6Sure, people should know that nothing is a secret anymore once you post it online...
but really, I think this whole thing has gotten out of hand. Disciplined for spraying shaving cream? Fired for not liking your job and saying so? It's hypocritical for employers to expect employees to be perfect robots who do nothing but feed the homeless and love their jobs when they are most likely nowhere close to that "clean." - acitta, on 02/17/2008, -0/+4It is amazing that people put stuff on Facebook but don't bother to edit their privacy settings to control who can access their information.
- chaoswings, on 02/17/2008, -0/+4Having a facebook, myspace etc. account is not the problem. The problem is that people are dumb and they put information up that they shouldn't...even then on sites like facebook you can make everything private so that only your friends can see it.
- slantyeyed, on 02/17/2008, -1/+5my favorite are pics of teens and under-age college students DRINKING
- dip03, on 02/17/2008, -1/+5Only your friends....how about the CIA, insurances company, marketing company. Everything you post on FB, belongs to FB.
- KaJuN4, on 02/17/2008, -2/+6Ah! Nothing like legal adults getting in trouble just because they haven't reached the magical age when they're suddenly able to be responsible with alcohol.
- elusiveqc, on 02/17/2008, -2/+6Someone in my office got fired over a facebook status update. Dude called in sick and then posted pics of himself at a party the same night.... not bright.
This creepy little facebook sketch broke my addiction to it :) It's from a Canadian TV show called "This hour has 22 minutes" and it's brilliant.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kerC5AG2IaE - scrmxtc, on 02/17/2008, -0/+3it's not the social network. it's your vanity that ruins you.
- baalzebub, on 02/17/2008, -0/+3anyone stupid enough to put their personal information on ANY website is going to get flamed by trolls and milked for all its worth. i am not being a troll it is just a fact of what happens on the internet...
- Typhoon2009, on 02/17/2008, -0/+3Alternatively, set your profile to private...
- Magnus150, on 02/17/2008, -0/+3Facebook - we already know who you are and everything about you. And we'll never delete it. Ever.
