- Chris1280, on 11/06/2009, -1/+62And? Thats only like 3 hours a week.
- merreborn, on 11/06/2009, -1/+46LOL.
I played at least 120 hours a month -- and might even have put in 100+ hours in a single week once or twice -- back when I was a hardcore MMO junkie.
120 hours a year? That's nothing. The average American supposedly watches 4 hours of TV a day -- 1400+ hours per year. - TotalHalibut, on 11/07/2009, -5/+40Addicted? Really? As in, if you pulled them away from it they'd suffer withdrawal symptoms? Cold sweats perhaps? Shakes?
What a bunch of pseudo-scientific nonsense. Sensationalism at it's most stupid. - Kronich, on 11/06/2009, -1/+29Would love to see a similar comparison for how long digg addicts spend on digg..
- RagManX, on 11/07/2009, -0/+14Hey now, you can't get a sensationalist story out of that. Let's reframe:
"Holy !@%*#@% - FaceBook users invest over 10,800 <fontsize-12>seconds</fontsize> per year on the site!!!!!"
See how much better that is? :) - irkalla, on 11/07/2009, -1/+11Wow, I must be REALLY addicted to Digg then.
- MAGZine, on 11/07/2009, -0/+8WoW, that's quite a bit.
- irobeth, on 11/07/2009, -0/+8Did anyone else notice that the facebook 'reflection' in the eye isn't backwards?
inb4 pixels - Akraz, on 11/07/2009, -0/+7Umm.. im on it 24/7. I just leave my firefox open, along with Digg, Gmail, and the RFD forums tabs. 3 hours a day is absolutely nothing.
- ManUnitdFan, on 11/07/2009, -0/+6Says the guy commenting on Digg. Definitely no irony in that statement.
- rmxz, on 11/07/2009, -0/+5Stupid article.
Book addicts spend more than a week a year reading books.
Work addicts spend more than a week a year working.
Food preparation addicts spend more than a week a year preparing food.
Chess addicts spend more than a week a year playing chess.
Commuter addicts spend more than a week a year commuting.
But I'm willing to bet the author of that "facebook addicts" article probably spends less than a week a year researching their articles. - cygnus2112, on 11/07/2009, -0/+5I guess there's no EQual.
- WriterSD, on 11/07/2009, -0/+4That does put it in perspective.
- novenator, on 11/06/2009, -1/+5Agreed. An online game I used to play would often consume 12-14 hours per day of my time.
- weirdo50, on 11/07/2009, -0/+4Yeah, my WoW playtime was like... 20 days. And I only played for half a year.
/virgin - FOR3MAN, on 11/07/2009, -0/+4Video game addicts everywhere were like, "What!? God Damn lightweights."
- Vaiper, on 11/07/2009, -0/+4I'm sorry, but don't you think people should be allowed to do what makes them happy? I'm not advocating anyone sitting behind their computer 24/7, but if it's what they like to do then leave them be. Besides, life isn't as hard as it used to be. Technology exists to make our lives easier so that we have more time to do the things we enjoy. Regardless of what that might be.
- Akraz, on 11/07/2009, -0/+4Yeah?
Warlock: 270 days
Shaman 110 days
Warrior: 150 days
Been playing since March 2005. I quit back in August. Havent looked back since. - RagManX, on 11/07/2009, -0/+4That's why I play Left 4 Dead more than my preferred MMO now. If I'm going to not be contributing directly to society today, I want to at least train for the coming zombie apocalypse so I can contribute when the chips *are* down. And as we all know, moving a mouse and clicking the left or right button is almost 100% accurate training for handling a real weapon when the uprising occurs.
- D4RK354B3R, on 11/07/2009, -0/+4Well, it comes down to about 11 to 12 minutes a day... That's not very much. :\
- TomFrost, on 11/07/2009, -0/+3Only a week? That's nothing. About 20 minutes a day. How much time do cigarette addicts spend smoking? Or TV addicts spend on the couch?
- KimballO, on 11/06/2009, -4/+7I knew I disliked Facebook.
- inactive, on 11/07/2009, -1/+4Real addicts probably sit on facebook 3-4 hours per day, if not more.
I find it hilarious the people who are completely extroverted on facebook, yet completely introverted in real life. What gives?
I guess good old fashion face to face communication will always beat the computer and keyboard. - kitkat102, on 11/07/2009, -0/+3About a 50th of a year. So what? I bet those same people spend a hell of a lot more time than that being paid a pittance for digging someone elses ditch. More pointless research, probably at the tax payers expense.
- loconet, on 11/07/2009, -0/+3Time to share this link on FB
- egemenbor, on 11/07/2009, -0/+3how do they determine how many hours a person spends on facebook? As in, I've got facebook open in a tab right now but im not using it i refresh it every now and again and that it..Do they count the seconds that i spend refreshing the site or are they counting the hours that facebook is open in the tab?
- InactiveUser, on 11/07/2009, -0/+31400 hours of TV is 470 hours of adds.
Now that is Zombie material! - Atrius, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2Oh yeah?
I started playing WoW about a year ago.
My main toon has about 60 days /played.
Inb4 'that's two months of the past year of your life you'll never get back'. - borez, on 11/07/2009, -1/+3Well as I spend around 10 hours a day editing audio and video, say 5 days a week 45 weeks per year, and digg ( as well as a couple of other sites) are always open in the background, that puts me at around 2250 hours/year give or take.
...holy ***** *****. - TobiasParker, on 11/07/2009, -1/+3I thought my hard drive crashed last night and while i was trouble-shooting i went into the other room and logged into all of my accounts on everything on another computer, which was painful because it is a 5 year old E-machines.
Total time my rig was down, 25 minutes. - inactive, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2thats the same question i was asking
- Walker2323, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2That's basically 2% of a user's life, or 4% of the user's waking life. Holy *****!
- Gregac, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2How else am I supposed to know when my crops are ready in farmville if I don't watch them?
- sirbeta, on 11/07/2009, -1/+3It's only a job if you make it a job.
- cygnus2112, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2When the chips are down, they will be eaten!
- TiE23, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1So what? I just reached about one week of time (168 hours) in four months just playing Battlefield Bad Company on my 360. One sixteenth of my waking life for the last four months has been on a video game. And that doesn't count the other games I have.
- ak666jk, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1What about people who open it up in a tab and just don't really look at it? I do this with multiple sites, I wouldn't say I'm addicted to them...
- dhughes, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1 Or just the Internet and Web in general, multi-player gaming included in that.
Also sleeping, working and other activities then figure out how time you have when you aren't doing something. - ElJif, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1According to a Facebook survey/quiz thing I'm only 37% addicted. *phew* Thank god for undeniable evidence!
- MOJIRA, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1Pulling numbers out of nowhere, let's say 5 minutes every 2 hours, that's 1 hour a day, so 365 hours a year. But it's probably more in the area of 7-800 hours/year for the average digger.
- yosafbridge, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1Only a week?
I spend about a week on Digg every 2 months.
And it would be more like "I spend a week on Digg every week and a half" if I didn't split the time with IMDb, Cracked, ThatGuyWithTheGlasses, TVTropes and YouTube.
Yeah...I'm one of those famed internet addicts you hear about. - elmetald00d, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1in 90 days real life, I got 55 days played time on my Hunter.
all while taking 12 credits. needless to say, I quit that after 90 days. - noumuon, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1i came here to post this exact comment. if that's what qualifies as "facebook addict", it's a pretty low on the scale of serious digital addictions. there was a time when having no commitments, being awake for 16 hours a day meant i was in game approximately 16 hours a day.
- TobiasParker, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1I usually just keep digg and facebook open in a tab if i am doing anything other than gaming, i rarely don't have a firefox window open for something even if i am watching TV or not home or something.
- captainchris, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1which is time that would've been spent on the phone or sharing your home videos and photo albums with friends had facebook not existed.
- EnergyEinstein, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1I know a lot of people who have only logged in once during the last 12 months, so for each of those people included in this study, add an additional 125 hours to someone elses time use...
- VintageMud, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1Word. I started playing a year ago, and have 132 days played across 4 80s.
- antdude, on 11/08/2009, -0/+10 for me!
- ThantiK, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1Meh, I'm currently botting Castle Age - I probably spend more than 125 hours on facebook in a *week* than these "addicts" do in a year.
They aren't addicts. - Chris1280, on 11/08/2009, -0/+1Ive logged 155 days overall, 82 at 80. Makes you kinda sad till you see the epixx.
