- diemunkiesdie, on 11/15/2009, -2/+38Billie Piper sure looks a lot like her! The casting people really lucked out if they had never met the real Belle de Jour before!
- 3rdDay, on 11/15/2009, -0/+25None of the doctors at the hospital I work at look like that. Damn.
- sneakyness, on 11/16/2009, -2/+26NOT REALLY.
As long as there have been men who want sex, and women who need money, there has been prostitution. It's a guarantee no matter where you are. - aralls, on 11/16/2009, -2/+25you're forgetting the cut! not sure what industry standard is, but i think butters keeps 40%.
- NidStyles, on 11/16/2009, -7/+28I love the mentality of Digg. They see a woman for her living her life the way she chooses, but then criticize the choices she made...
What happened to the open minded progressive attitude? Oh that's right, it's only valid when it fit's your need's.
Prostitution is legal in the UK. Has been for quite some time now, and if it's her choice of employment for higher education, then so be it. At least she had a goal in mind rather than just being a gored out Prostitute in it for the drug money. I say congratulation's to her for not relying on public service's, and being motivated enough to better herself. - harvinator24, on 11/15/2009, -1/+19The TV show is really good.
- ftc08, on 11/16/2009, -1/+17"dumb bitch"
with a PhD. - wtbuser, on 11/16/2009, -1/+16They call it the oldest profession for a reason...
- bigteebo, on 11/16/2009, -3/+18But remember, society. While we are sympathetic and kind to this woman, we must demonize every single man that paid to have sex with her. Them's the sexist rules.
- wtbuser, on 11/16/2009, -3/+18Oh please, get off your high horse. Is marriage that much different, essentially a basic exchange of security, commitment, and welfare for sexual gratification and where prostitution does the same exchange in cash? Both have always existed and both would be much more safe and secure if we quit lying to ourselves about trying to abolish the latter.
- dillonflynn, on 11/16/2009, -1/+16In 2006, I interned for a London literary agency that counted Dr. Magnanti as a client. She came in for the odd meeting with her agent, and I saw her face to face a couple of times. I read her book when I joined the firm, and I wasn't necessarily all that impressed. I quickly realized that her identity was a hot commodity in the literary world, and I definitely became curious. However, all I was able to get from proximity was her first name.
For those interested, she was pretty nice. - Crossmenjeff, on 11/16/2009, -1/+14i'd say her PhD puts her several marks above you in the realm of educational decisions.
- diemunkiesdie, on 11/15/2009, -1/+13You must be blind. There are pictures in the top right. There are 3 pictures, only the first one is her. The second is a picture of Billie Piper (who played her in the show) and the third is a picture of the book cover.
- Lane, on 11/16/2009, -2/+13" adapted into books and a television drama starring Billie Piper" Why was I unaware of this before now? internet you have failed me!
- animatedtripod, on 11/16/2009, -1/+11Hahaha..."soiled goods"
How's stuff working out for you back there in the Victorian era? - durruticolumn, on 11/16/2009, -1/+11
She got paid around $500 an hour to "lose her dignity". How much did you make for yours? - wtbuser, on 11/16/2009, -3/+12And dudes wanted to get off. What of it?
- anthropodeus, on 11/16/2009, -0/+9hot smart girls = hot^2
- rolf, on 11/16/2009, -1/+9No, you don't need to sell sex to get a degree. That's a cop-out.
- kernel16, on 11/16/2009, -0/+7I just had to post this lol:
====================
Eventually I agreed, but only with a significant markup in the usual fee. The client was rather nice and seemed exceedingly shy. We talked for a little while and had a drink - spirits for me and a large beer for him. The better to fill the bladder with, I suppose. When it came time to do the deed I stripped him from the waist down, got all my kit off and knelt in an empty bathtub.
He looked at me, looked at the wall above me, and sighed. Nothing happened for a couple of minutes. I was starting to get cold. "Is everything okay?" I asked.
"It's not going to happen. I'm too turned on," he said. He looked down again. "If I look at you, I'll get hard. If I look away, I'll think of what's going to happen, and get hard."
"Try thinking of something that doesn't turn you on."
"Such as?"
"Your mother shopping for underwear for you. With you in tow. Aged 35." He started to laugh. I felt the first trickle hit my neck, roll down my breasts.
Afterward I showered while he watched me. He started to make vague shy-guy noises as I dried my hair and dressed. "Are you okay?" I asked.
"I think I have some more," he said, blushing, gesturing toward his knob. "You don't have to say yes, but I don't suppose I could put it in a glass and -"
"Er, no thank you," I said. "Health and safety and all that."
"Some people drink it for their health," he offered.
"Yes, and some people think an all-meat diet is good for you." I put my coat on and kissed him on the cheek. "Perhaps another time, when I've had more warning." And a stomach pump to hand.
==================== - d03boy, on 11/16/2009, -1/+8You have a point. But then you really don't.

- wtbuser, on 11/16/2009, -1/+8Marrying for love is quite a new thing in society... and even then isn't present in every marriage today. If you want to lie to yourself then have at it, but you can't deny the obvious exchange that exists within the mutually beneficial arrangement that is marriage. But surely yours is a whore.
- RyomaNagare, on 11/16/2009, -1/+8It's the classic story of the "whore with the brain of gold"...
- wtbuser, on 11/16/2009, -0/+6So you're insisting that every single prostitute in the world, in the past, in the present, and in the future is only a prostitute because she is completely and utterly trapped by her lot in life? Not a single *one* did it for her own gain, enjoyment, or indifference?
Quite honestly I don't understand what is so radical about respecting the fact that people should, people ought to respect whatever another person does with one's own body. If it causes no offense to my person or property then I have no grounds to prevent them from their innocent act.
Yes please, just reaffirm how crazy your argument and the opposition is by slandering me and burying your head in sand. Yes, every single person who decries the totalitarian drug laws in this country are heroin addicts. Not an academic in the whole lot of them. Yes, every single person who defends a person's right to their own body is a "lazy fat bastards" who preys upon little girls every night. Got it. - datagod, on 11/16/2009, -3/+9Maybe you wouldn't be dropping so many used kleenexes if you actually had a girlfriend.
- thatashguy, on 11/16/2009, -0/+5so, eh... i have a spare $300~ what do you say?
- bubba9999, on 11/16/2009, -0/+5When so many others do it for free...
He who is without sin...blah blah blah. - succubuskiller, on 11/16/2009, -0/+5“I did have another job at one point, as a computer programmer, but I kept up with my other work because it was so much more enjoyable.”
(hot smart girls that can program as well) = 2^(hot) - Paranor01, on 11/16/2009, -1/+6who said she lost her dignity?
she certainly seems to not feel as she has. Seemed to have bothered her staying behind anonymity more than being as escort, but you probably didn't read the article and assumed. - Idiggapony, on 11/16/2009, -0/+5More, with another photo:
http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_an ... - datagod, on 11/16/2009, -0/+5"Also being open to new things in sex never hurt."
Tell that to the guy who put a lightbulb in his arse: http://www.bone.me.uk/rectal-foreign-bodies.php - rolf, on 11/16/2009, -1/+5Giving someone freedom to make choices doesn't mean you have to endorse all the choices they make. I'm for legalizing drugs because the drug war utterly failed. It doesn't have to mean I think smoking crack is a good choice in life.
- kernel16, on 11/16/2009, -0/+4No judgments, but knowing the field of academics, watch her credibility in her field drop dramatically.
- chaoskaizer, on 11/16/2009, -0/+4Life is hard sir
- outfed, on 11/16/2009, -0/+4Knew I recognized her. That call service has pretty good girls.
- janoo1989, on 11/16/2009, -0/+3Wow she's a doctor, what a coincidence! Billie Piper can now be associated with 2 doctors...
Wibbly Wobbly, Timey Wimey! - regeya, on 11/16/2009, -0/+3Erm...I don't see too many people trashing it that hard. Most the negative comments ahve been buried. So...what the hell?
- eprimetime, on 11/16/2009, -0/+3I have a very dear friend who is a prostitute. Not high end, but not a crack whore either. She stays at home all day, spends time with her daughter, and when she needs money, she makes it very quickly. She has no shame in it, and is very good at what she does. I have offered to pay, and the price would be worth it, but she won't take my money.
- anthropodeus, on 11/16/2009, -0/+3FTFA = from the ***** article?
- Spacejack, on 11/16/2009, -0/+3Heheh. "unwashed fat truck driver."
Y'know if you feel the need to construct that kind of straw man in your argument you really ought to think twice about making it. $500 an hour call girls don't have much to do with unwashed truck drivers. - d03boy, on 11/16/2009, -1/+4$$$
- lostmessiah, on 11/15/2009, -0/+3That was one of the first things I thought when I saw the two pictures.
