- dstopping, on 05/02/2008, -12/+42My favourite stunt is the one where he's not an self-important douche. That stunt rocks...though for some reason it's not on this list anywhere. Weird!
- rompom7, on 05/02/2008, -2/+26A lot of people seem to hate David Blaine for some reason. I have to say:
1) at least he isn't up himself like most performers of this nature
2) he is the only man of today still doing stunts that are reminiscent of those old style death defying stunts, something he should be commended on; for not using annoying showmanship and cheesy props. - stonebone4, on 05/02/2008, -1/+19"See my eat my own head!!!twaaaa"
- reed311, on 05/02/2008, -0/+15They have two records, one with oxygenation and one without. However, I would be willing to wager that all the people bashing him couldn't even come close to the 17 minutes he held his breath even if they had oxygenated their blood. Otherwise, the record would be consistently broken by any bum off the street.
- gatorb6, on 05/02/2008, -3/+18Whatever happened to him being a magician and doing his street magic thing? All he's doing now are these stunts or sitting in boxes now.
- fitqueenb, on 05/02/2008, -6/+20I get that he wants to be different and likes to do this stuff, but it amazes me how much pain he is willing to suffer in doing these things.
- MindTrigger, on 05/02/2008, -6/+20When was the last time any of you did *anything* to even remotely push the boundaries of your mind or body? Never? Blaine might not have the best personality in the world, but neither do most of the people I have met here on Digg since 2005. You *****' people sit here and call someone else a self-righteous attention whore? Have you read your own Digg comments lately?
I'm no huge fan of his, and frankly his magic does nothing for me, but I deeply respect anyone who can commit to lofty goals, and follow through with them. If you saw the video of him training for this, you would notice that his exercise routine alone was more than most of you can dream of handling. How about at least a little respect for the hard work, if you can't muster up any other ***** good will for the man. - catch-22, on 05/02/2008, -0/+14Like it or not, he is the Houdini of our generation.
- rompom7, on 05/02/2008, -1/+13Errm. What hoaxes?
- MechanicalZack, on 05/02/2008, -4/+151) Not breathing for 17 minutes
2) 7 Days in see-through coffin
3) 62 Hours in ice block
4) 34 hours atop a 22-in. circular platform 100 feet off the ground
5) 44 days in a clear plastic box hanging over River Thames with no food.
6) Floats 7 days in a water-filled sphere followed by an attempt at the breath-holding world record.
7)Spends 52 hours shackled in a spinning gyroscope suspended 40 feet above Times Square. - DavidOchs, on 05/02/2008, -2/+12You do realize that all of his stunts are absolutely legit, right? He also does illusions and magic but his stunts are the real deal.
- DavidOchs, on 05/02/2008, -2/+10He is a magician but his stunts are 100% legit. He does card magic, which is slight of hand. Illusions, which is simply tricking the audience. He also does real stunts which have nothing to do with smoke and mirrors or deception but rather pushing the limits of the human body.
- newmanator77, on 05/02/2008, -3/+11I'm surprised he's still alive after all the ***** he's done to his body.
- bstew22, on 05/02/2008, -1/+9"The first 28 days were beautiful. I'd never throw that one away, although I did get major organ failure."
pffft merely a flesh wound. - DavidOchs, on 05/02/2008, -1/+9You must be thinking of Criss Angel. David Blaine does mostly card magic and other illusions, trick photography has nothing to do with it.
- scojerroc, on 05/02/2008, -1/+8aside from the first one, none of these 'stunts' involve him actually doing anything. except waiting.
- catachip, on 05/02/2008, -0/+6Didn't we all agree to call that thing Billary?
- bstew22, on 05/02/2008, -4/+10you suck balls.
- cawpin, on 05/02/2008, -1/+7He's not acting.
- MindTrigger, on 05/02/2008, -0/+4Here come the comments from the "FAKE PHOTO" crowd.
- twrife, on 05/02/2008, -0/+4which is 7 not 8
- adml_shake, on 05/02/2008, -9/+13I was impressed with this until I found out he had Hyper-oxygenated his blood by breathing pure Oxygen for half an hour before the stunt. All natural or nothing. And yes I know Guinness allows this, why I don't know.
- bstew22, on 05/02/2008, -2/+6i'd rather not, but does he have a sister?
- NoValidTitle, on 05/02/2008, -0/+4Good thing you don't think it's magic because it's not nor does it claim to be, clearly says stunts.
- inigomntoya, on 05/02/2008, -1/+5My favorite was the one of the River Thames - no wait. I mean my favorite was the harassment he received while living in a hamster cage over some river in GB.
- Sliperyfish, on 05/02/2008, -2/+6What a weirdo
- MindTrigger, on 05/02/2008, -4/+7Judging by this comment, perhaps we should see you perform this stunt as well.
- Jwoey, on 05/02/2008, -1/+4While we're on the topic... let's get one thing straight. Cheese Nips are disgusting. Cheez Itz are delicious.
- IphtashuFitz, on 05/02/2008, -1/+4I wish I was as lucky as you.
- inactive, on 05/02/2008, -1/+4My favorite Blane stunt will be the one he doesn't make it out of.
- MindTrigger, on 05/02/2008, -0/+3Each human mind/body is different. Some people start to fall apart emotionally after not getting a single good night's sleep. The longest I have personally stayed up was about 36 hours, and I was starting to feel really ***** weird. I didn't have outright hallucinations, but I did start to see movement out of the corners of my eyes when there was no actual movement and my perception was becoming distorted. It was no stretch of imagination to know it would only get worse should I stay up for another 24+ hours.
- spookyttws, on 05/02/2008, -0/+3I remember reading something around the time he was doing the Ice Block stunt that there was a small room built into the base, and when the workers came and occasionally "re-chilled" the ice (there buy producing a opaque cloud of carbon dioxide) he would switch places with a double. Not sure if thats what he did, but it sound plausible.
- ThaDRD, on 05/02/2008, -0/+3Weren't they throwing food at it too? That was awesome.
- coboman, on 05/02/2008, -2/+4That would be "solid food". The article neglects to mention that he had plenty of nutrients given to him in liquid form.
Anyway, a waste of time in my opinion. I see no entertaining value in any of these stunts. And he is supposed to be an entertainer. - ThaDRD, on 05/02/2008, -0/+2Blaine has been known to use camera tricks. In his first special where he floated, you saw reaction shots of people who saw him to the Balducci levitation...but this levitation isn't what was seen on TV b/c the way the trick works, it can't be shown on TV without giving it away.
- inactive, on 05/02/2008, -3/+5I've never been so proud of the UK as when he suspended himself in a box over the river Thames in London and people were lining up on the bridges to hit golf balls at him and making him think he was being targetted by terrorists by focusing laser-pointers at him. NOT taken in by his BS!
What a massive, attention-seeking schmuck that guy is. - op12, on 05/04/2008, -0/+2Yeah, it was on one of those Fox's "Magic Secrets Revealed" shows with the masked magician.
- adml_shake, on 05/02/2008, -1/+3Ahh, see that I did not know. Thank you.
- Claude1971, on 05/02/2008, -1/+3I'd like to see the stunt wher he stops breathing....period
- DavidOchs, on 05/02/2008, -2/+4He is an illuionist but his stunts are the real deal. People get confused because he does magic and illusions but also does legit stunts.
- op12, on 05/02/2008, -2/+4I think that is a valid point. The fact that he's a magician always makes me question if he's using some kinds of tricks to at least make these feats easier.
- MindTrigger, on 05/02/2008, -0/+2Who cares? Most of you people act like smug tools every day on Digg. Why should Blaine have to be Mr. Niceguy?
- Trustthedust, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1i think i speak for a lot of people when i pose the question WHO GIVES A SH*T?
- HowitZer25, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1Strength is the capacity to focus one's will on one goal. David Blaine could knock you over by glancing at you.
- laserblazer, on 05/02/2008, -1/+2He couldn't recover from the humiliation of ripping off Balducci's Levitation and then acting like it had taken a great toll on him. It was some of the genuinely weakest weak-sauce ever brewed.
- MindTrigger, on 05/02/2008, -1/+2Yeah, because that's clearly all he's doing. But then there is that whole part where he's absolutely pushing the boundaries and capabilities of the human mind and body. Pfft.. all in a day's work for you, right?
- t2t2, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1we did? Sorry, i forgot about the great meeting of Internets, when's next one?
(again, sorry) - laserblazer, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1Strength is the measure of bad odors, too. BLAINE SUCKS BALLS.
- kenedamick, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1David Blaine is a douche.
