- worseforwine, on 02/11/2009, -5/+108Well there is simply no way that could have been a regular fire. Who ever heard of a steel building burning like that? It must have been some vast conspiracy that planted charges.
- pitdog, on 02/11/2009, -1/+101boston.com deliver yet again.
- psyphen, on 02/11/2009, -3/+92Boston.com photography team (and Boston.com in general) deserves a round of applause. They always have the most beautiful picture pages.
- sbcea, on 02/11/2009, -3/+76Such an amazing contrast of beauty and tragedy.
- fshi, on 02/11/2009, -0/+48Dugg because all the pictures are on one page. Why the ***** don't other sites do this like the Boston Globe?
- SpectreFire, on 02/11/2009, -0/+44That has to be an embarrassing story for the press (CCTV) to cover.
"We're now at the scene of our own broadcasting complex where one of our buildings has been accidentally lit on fire by our own staff..." - harrisbradley, on 02/11/2009, -5/+44So you're saying there was no happy ending?
- MacEnvy, on 02/11/2009, -3/+37Okay, now that's funny.
- monkeyfaust, on 02/11/2009, -1/+27Incredible architecture and beautiful photographs! And though it's a shame about the hotel, I'm just glad that gem of a building to the right survived.
- kelmaster1, on 02/11/2009, -0/+23they always have the best photo sets. No ***** too, love how it's on one page.
- ShadowlessShey, on 02/11/2009, -0/+19Awesome photos.
- podobuzz, on 02/11/2009, -3/+20I came to this thread looking for the first 9/11 comment. I just knew somebody would go there.
- Jawbone54, on 02/11/2009, -1/+17I guess these fireworks weren't CGI.
- KingGorilla, on 02/11/2009, -0/+14Yeah ***** slideshows
- amcnair, on 02/11/2009, -6/+20Explosive jet fuel from the planes that ***** CRASHED INTO IT.
- pathouston22, on 02/11/2009, -0/+14None of those are Boston.com photographers. Look at the credits.
- EffinRiot, on 02/11/2009, -1/+13Dugg for #6 - Minnie Mouse hiding from the kid.
- wjlaw100, on 02/11/2009, -0/+12Wow... fantastic... Right up to the point where some dumbass sets off fireworks in a building under construction and obviously without functioning sprinklers and burns it down to the ground.
- elipabst, on 02/12/2009, -1/+13You can see the thermite in image 24.
- KingGorilla, on 02/11/2009, -0/+11"They always have the most beautiful picture pages" ON A SINGLE PAGE
Just for that they are awesome - insinuate, on 02/11/2009, -6/+16oh. my. god. please...for the love of god...shut the ***** up you 9/11 truthers.
- DemDude, on 02/11/2009, -2/+12The weird thing is - despite the fireworks on display being unbelievable, the most unreal thing in any of those pictures is the CCTV-Building. I had no idea the construction had already come this far, at first I thought the thing was CGI - it looks completely, utterly unreal. Amazing.
Also, I'm sad to hear a Fire-Fighter gave his life, especially when you keep in mind that it was just a show, nothing but entertainment... - NegativeDigg, on 02/11/2009, -1/+11The rooof, the roof is on fire........seriously GTFO....
- kiiwii, on 02/11/2009, -0/+9I think even Yankees fans can agree that boston.com's "Big Picture" series is amazing.
- jburka, on 02/11/2009, -1/+10Fantastic photography. Imagine throwing molten metal against a wall to get an effect! Burning a skyscraper certainly adds to the festival ... rather ironic!
- C0ntraRadical, on 02/11/2009, -0/+9Jet fuel is kerosene.
You sure you've done the research on this? - inactive, on 02/11/2009, -4/+13Probably because it was just a fire and not a fire AFTER a huge fully loaded jumbo ***** jet took out a ton of the buildings supports.
- soulonfire928, on 02/12/2009, -0/+9Slideshows are completely asinine. Was it something like askmen.com that had the 100 Hottest Women spread out across as many pages? ***** ridiculous.
- Antialias, on 02/11/2009, -3/+12Because WTC burned WAY hotter with the jet fuel? Not to mention building techniques and technology change a lot in 40 years.
- milkmage, on 02/11/2009, -0/+9the Mandarin Oriental is a HUGE international hotel chain - just because it's it China doesn't mean it's ass backwards. International companies protect their assets.
- worseforwine, on 02/11/2009, -0/+8Spend on what?!?! SPEND ON WHAT!?!?!
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -0/+8damn. that building next to it looks like the one from bladerunner
- kaptainchump, on 02/12/2009, -0/+8I turned off ad block plus for boston.com and clicked on an ad. I wish more sites were like this.
- rafe101, on 02/12/2009, -0/+8Just spend on. Spend on, China.
- worseforwine, on 02/11/2009, -1/+9Thanks!
- hydrodev, on 02/12/2009, -0/+8left?

- papashawn, on 02/11/2009, -1/+8dugg for boston globe photos.
- taibo, on 02/11/2009, -0/+7If you can't even count the number of towers that went down, it's safe to say you have no idea what you're talking about.
- flyinguitar90, on 02/11/2009, -3/+10Last time you checked was ... 1946?
- dododohead, on 02/12/2009, -0/+6regardless
they are the easiest ones to look at. Huge, sharp, and from all angles. - ShrimpCrackers, on 02/11/2009, -2/+8@Irvine:
Read the first paragraph, the title is misleading yes, but the introductory paragraph is not and mentions Taiwan separately.
@FlyingGuitar90 7 JCEEZ:
You guys don't realize there is a difference between "Republic of China" (Taiwan) and "People's Republic of China" (China), just like "Democratic Republic of Korea" (North Korea) and "Republic of Korea" (South Korea) are not the same thing.
Here's a clue, one is a third world, first rate power, and is one of the worst human rights violators to this day, and has managed to kill the most innocent civilians in history; the other is the freest country in Asia, everyone earns the same as the average EU nation, with the lowest poverty rate in human history. Guess which is which? - 2Deluxe, on 02/11/2009, -0/+6You're an idiot.
- judicar, on 02/11/2009, -0/+6more page requests == more money
- willster580, on 02/11/2009, -0/+6#12 is ***** insane.
- fuzzmeister, on 02/11/2009, -4/+10Two 767's traveling at high speed might have something to do with it.
- spaceshipsix, on 02/11/2009, -0/+6I'd say it was a fire win.
Building failure. - worseforwine, on 02/11/2009, -4/+10You know what, I'm more inclined to believe this fire was set on purpose than to even consider the WTC was brought down by explosives, you people seriously need to go away.
- spaceshipsix, on 02/11/2009, -1/+6Think about all the people that wake up the next day with hangovers:
"I have such a headache...what did we do last night?"
"Oh ***** we burned that building down! Remember that?! I'm never drinking again."
We've all had that feeling (minus the destruction of an entire skyscraper). - oldenvirginia, on 02/11/2009, -0/+5It has rubber sealant on the entire outside of the building while it waited for glazing to be put in place. The whole thing went up and then everything else caught too.
There should have been some sprinkler system in place, even before construction completion but clearly there wasn't. Also, it didn't help that the CCTV staff waited before ringing the fire brigade. Apparently, they even sent texts to the CCTV bosses asking what to do first! -
