- Upon66, on 07/06/2009, -0/+12That's a lot of ***** fireworks
- regularsteven, on 07/06/2009, -2/+12i want a mk2...
- ryryindo, on 07/06/2009, -1/+10Oh 5Dmk2, how long must you be unattainable for me?
- mcrumley, on 07/06/2009, -0/+8Click the full screen button to watch in 1280x720, or download the full 1920x1080 Quicktime file.
- HappyScrappy, on 07/06/2009, -1/+9Since when does the state fund fireworks shows? They are usually paid for by municipalities. There were many fireworks shows around San Jose, California last night.
- BossKey, on 07/06/2009, -0/+8Don't know why you're getting dugg up. Vimeo did real HD long before YouTube started adding its often quite misleading HD badge, and Vimeo's HD is still a better experience.
And the linked video is certainly beyond 640x480. - Keicharones, on 07/06/2009, -0/+6the mark ii can handle some pretty damn high iso numbers with almost no noticeable noise, especially after compressing it for the internet.
- adudenamedjon, on 07/05/2009, -2/+7THANK YOU
- PhoenixReborn, on 07/06/2009, -2/+7Honestly I wasn't impressed. It's like there was no planning to the fireworks. Just shoot a bunch off and hope people like them.
- wokNroll, on 07/06/2009, -0/+5CHEW YOUR FOOD.
- feomatteo88, on 07/06/2009, -0/+5i'll watch anything explode in hd... yes, anything.
- lazyslacker, on 07/06/2009, -1/+5Whoa ISO 2000?? It's so clean! Are we sure it isn't ISO 200?
- HappyScrappy, on 07/06/2009, -17/+21Nice camera. It can capture 1080p/30. Too bad vimeo is one of those sites that passes off 640x480 as "HD".
- svensksvamp, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3A lot of people uses Vimeo to check out the quality of specific cameras. That's why
- ekstasis16, on 07/06/2009, -1/+4I did one myself - first time using the 5D for fireworks. Turned out OK for a first run. 1/30 shutter, f4.0, ISO1000. The audio was a lot better than I expected, very clean.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0RKWJ0mA6Y&fmt ... - Sagags, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3I got a piece of steak lodged in my esophagus last night and was throwing up non-stop for 5 hours. I was in the ER from 5pm till 1am, I missed 4th of July.
They had no TV's in the ER, so I missed it too. - ohnnyj, on 07/06/2009, -1/+4Maybe it depends on where you are. There were numerous shows here in the San Diego area. In fact, I was fortunate enough to witness seven simultaneous displays from mount soledad. However, nothing I saw came close to this.
- justsomeguy987, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3A totally inaccurate post getting +10 diggs. Vimeo HD is not 640x480. What's wrong with you Digg?
- HappyScrappy, on 07/06/2009, -3/+6As long as you don't need silent continuous AF, to record for more than 10 minutes, or a good built-in mic. And as long as you can live with rolling shutter artifacts that CMOS sensors produce. And if you want the 8x-10x optical zoom a good camcorder has, you have to haul around a big piece of glass on your 5D2.
As good as the 5Dmk2 is, there's plenty of room for camcorders to exceed it's capabilities. Sadly, the camcorder makers are concentrating on the ***** low end "flip" type models right now, leaving the door open for the dSLR makers to make inroads to the high-end of the market. - nurbsenvi, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2In about 2 years DSLR will converge with high-end camcorder for sure.
- CleoQKazoo, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2gorgeous but also a little terrifying. I like to imagine if we were being attacked by aliens or meteors it would look like that
- novenator, on 07/05/2009, -4/+6Very good work. I was in with the flu this year, so it is a treat to see this by proxy.
- stutimandal, on 07/06/2009, -1/+3So canon has an HD camcorder which can do great stills and an SLR camera which can do great videos. Amazing!
- i23Photography, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2But the 5D takes pictures too, so carrying both a still and film camera is worse than carrying one 5D
- Phernoree, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2KABLOOIE!
- giid, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2<wokNroll> CHEW YOUR FOOD.
- etx313, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2Do what I did and buy the Rebel t1i. It's awesome.
- RandoTheKing, on 07/06/2009, -3/+5Macy's lays off 7,000 people yet they can still afford pointless firework shows. Fantastic.
- dudemoo22, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2how were you throwing up if the steak was in the way?
- ultrafez, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1NO////////////////////
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1I had the joy of seeing these from my friend's building's roof in NY. Pretty spectacular.
- ryryindo, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1thanks for the recommendation! that's much more affordable
- masterkenobi, on 07/06/2009, -1/+2Not that unattainable, if you have an extra $2700 lying around somewhere...
- lazyslacker, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1***** you.
- Spire3660, on 07/06/2009, -1/+2Not really bragging. The camera is notable simply because up until recently SLRs couldnt even do video, and this one does it VERY well.
- Sagags, on 07/06/2009, -3/+4I got a piece of steak lodged in my esophagus last night and was throwing up non-stop for 5 hours. I was in the ER from 5pm till 1am, I missed 4th of July........
Before you say "chew your food" they discovered I have a condition that causes the muscle that controls the opening between my stomach and esophagus to not relax, and in turn blocks food from entering my stomach. They found this out after sticking a camera and hook down my throat into my stomach. FML. - vuke69, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1High ISO 2 is ISO 25600, which is just insane.
He should have stopped it down to f8 or so to sharpen things up though. It was way overcooked (flare and overexposed) in the center. f2.8 is just too fast for fireworks.
Still awesome though. - digitalArtform, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1I bought the wrong camera.
- RadiatedAnt, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Why do they always complicate the title and not "Picture taken of"...
- dafragsta, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Canon has REALLY low noise ISO. I took a couple thousand shots with my Rebel XT at QuakeCon a few years ago and processed them alongside a bunch of Nikon shots. Nikons are every bit as good of a camera structurally and specification-wise, but Canon has always had it over them on super low noise at high ISO. I had great shots at ISO 800. The new ones are supposedly HIGHLY usable up to the 2000 range.
I'm tempted to get a Rebel XSI, but I haven't used my camera much lately and the Rebel XT is still serviceable and takes good pictures at 8MP, so it's hard to justify, but DAMN the DSLRs with movie mode are giving the Red a real run for the money. If only they'd find some way to let you sync external audio sources. I guess that's too prosumer for Canon to cater to on their $800 camera. - Sagags, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1delete/
- etx313, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Did they shove a 5D Mark II down your throat? No? Off topic.
- Sagags, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1@dudemoo22
Anything I swallowed, like saliva would reach the blockage and come back up. And you're natural reflex is to swallow when your throat feels dry so I kept accidental swallowing my own saliva, I also had dry heaves. - inactive, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1I did watch the video, and it was the same *****.
- V3NOM, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1I'm from the country so I've never seen anything near that amount of fireworks going off at once. Amazing.
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1You're the only one.
- nipterink, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1do you even know what the internet is for? if no one ever provided details on anything they posted, searching for information would be useless. it has nothing to do with bragging and everything to do with making the online world a better place for everyone.
- UselessTrivia, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1Must be a pretty incredible camera. I've heard it mentioned at least 4 times in the last 3 days and I don't follow photography at all. It must be new?
- giid, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Comment is down, anyone have a mirror?
