- elliotys, on 07/09/2009, -1/+35No, and a black president didn't end racism.
- Amadeus2490, on 07/09/2009, -3/+27Neil Patrick Harris is the only person who can.
- hiphoc, on 07/09/2009, -5/+27No. I am tired of seeing this guys ass on digg and mininova. Talk about running a joke into the ground. hopefully the movie is better than the constant ass shots on multiple websites. Oh yea, and in case the RIAA is out there, I just go to mininova to window shop. NOTHING ELSE.
- RobertWright, on 08/13/2009, -4/+25The movie was really good, but no Bruno cant end Homophobia here in America. Only time and a cork in Perez Hilton's mouth can help in this movement!!!
- loneraver, on 07/09/2009, -2/+17no
- HALNINETHOUSAND, on 07/09/2009, -1/+12No...no he can't.
- Coven, on 07/09/2009, -1/+10"Would it hurt to have a gay pride parade actually have people in it that are most like the community? Couples walking hand in hand. Instead of leather-wearing, ass-less chaps, village people style clothing."
Something tells me you've never been to a pride parade. There are most certainly more "toned down" elements to those parades. The only reason you think the parades are solely these flamboyant, in your face, fruit hat wearing, assless chaps and sailor uniform sporting events is because that is what gets shown on the news. The gay and lesbian couples walking hand in hand wearing regular clothes just doesn't interest the media.
Blame the MSM, not the gay community. - inactive, on 07/09/2009, -2/+10The short answer? no.
The long answer? noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo - Renian, on 07/09/2009, -0/+8With my freeze ray I will stop...
- Malik112099, on 07/09/2009, -0/+7Title should read:
"Can a movie about a straight guy playing a homosexual pushing gay stereotypes to the extreme outer edges of reality while alienating the ***** out of people on camera end America's homophobia?"
What the ***** do you think? - ousthouse, on 07/09/2009, -0/+7Did Larry the Cable Guy help people's perception of the south?
- Coven, on 07/09/2009, -1/+7What *can't* NPH do?
- KenSPT, on 07/09/2009, -0/+6No, I didn't, but I should reword my previous statement.
"Did anyone with a firm grasp on reality actually expect him to?" - pfunked, on 07/09/2009, -0/+6Borat ended xenophobia so I expect nothing less here.
- Chewie67, on 07/09/2009, -1/+7I'm not homophobic, but I want to punch him in the face.
I'd say it's quite the opposite.
I must be in the minority, because nothing he does makes me laugh. I find him highly annoying. - KenSPT, on 07/09/2009, -0/+5Did anyone really expect him to?
- oldhick, on 07/09/2009, -0/+5"Homosexuality is most common among animals when they live in a deprived environment" cite your source or are you lying?
"Why should God stop punishing people for stuff that is His "fault"? Doesn't your statement presuppose an absolute principle of justice?" nice dodge of the question. Answer a question with a question.
Quit your lying. Jesus never told his believers to be intolerant of the behaviors exhibit by the world. He commanded us to confront sin amongst believers and to hold our fellow believers accountable for their action. You can judge someone who does not believe. You are not God. - ShingoEX, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4Homosexuality occurs in nature, so if there is a God, he's needs to stop punishing people for ***** that's his own ***** fault.
- alanocu, on 07/09/2009, -4/+8Honestly, I'm a little sick of Hollywood actors portraying gay people like flaming retards, victims, or sex-crazed maniacs. Hollywood does as disservice to the gay community IMO. Bruno is no exception.
- Blablah01, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4Rofl.
- TaeKwonDonkey, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4this movie does not portray homosexuals in a favorable light, i do not see how this could end America's homophobia
- Bloodwine, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4I agree, I think gay pride parades hurt their cause more than help.
- ShingoEX, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4I'm not sure where you're getting that from. He's extraordinarily talented.
- BoneStamp, on 07/09/2009, -1/+5There are lots of countries that are far more gay friendly than the US.
- Tanktunker, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4I wouldn't say he's untalented.
Maybe immature, but the guy is funny. - RyanXmetal, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4You're retarded and ignorant.
- RyanCoke, on 07/09/2009, -5/+8I am about to get destroyed on digg; but...
I agree. I don't care really what you do sexually and who you do it to (consensually); but when I see the gay pride parades go down the street it really makes me uncomfortable. Why would the gay community be using the the most flagrant and out there people to display pride? For me, it sends the wrong message. It seems like this is what gay people are like (in your face, brash and aggressive).
Would it hurt to have a gay pride parade actually have people in it that are most like the community? Couples walking hand in hand. Instead of leather-wearing, ass-less chaps, village people style clothing.
Bruno won't get rid of homophobia; no chance. He is a caricature of parade. He'll just show how uncomfortable people are with uncomfortable situations... - stubear, on 07/09/2009, -3/+6No. Bruno is nothing more then Alan Funt meets Punk'd. His style of "humor" could be pulled off by anyone with a video camera and the willingness to make an ass of themselves in front of it.
- FyreGoddess, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3This is actually an issue that's becoming more and more important within the gay rights movement. I was recently reading about how gay rights are often likened to the civil rights movement of the 60's, but that the primary difference is the flamboyance displayed by a specific subset of the gay community.
What's going on there is that a very small but flamboyant demographic is, in fact, hurting the overall gay rights cause by drawing attention to the media-mongering few. It gives gays and the gay rights movement at bad name.
"The gay and lesbian couples walking hand in hand wearing regular clothes just doesn't interest the media."
You know what, though? It doesn't interest the people watching the parade either, but those are the people who SHOULD be at the forefront of the gay rights movement, and they're the ones who are most politically active and who are trying to make a difference.
It's not the parades that are the issue though, it's that the attention whores are putting their own narcissism ahead of the overall cause that is being fought for. - mlvassallo, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2Thank you.
- mparker21311, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2Humans are naturally bigoted.
- rayskin, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2The type of audience who is going to see Bruno isn't homophobic.
- mlvassallo, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2Seriously... I was with you for about a sentence...
- Bloodwine, on 07/09/2009, -1/+3Ellen DeGeneres was the first openly-gay celebrity that I recall, and opened the way for others to come out of the closet.
It was so long ago that I can't remember if her character ended up being gay as well. I think so, because I vaguely remember something about first gay kiss on TV. My memory is fuzzy, though. - FyberOptic, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2Are you kidding me? There are still people who despise black folks, despite all that's been done for equality over the last several decades. And they're mostly just a different color. Gay people go against religious and ethical standards for a lot of people, and so they're going to be hated for a lot longer than black people ever will. I can pretty much guarantee you that. Just because they're forcefully inserted into pop culture so that everyone can appear politically correct doesn't mean people are any more accepting. Eventually you'll just start seeing token gays about as much as you see token blacks.
And, ironically enough, the numbers seem to show that the majority of blacks are against gays, compared to whites. I guess some people have a short memory when it comes to fair treatment of others. - undervalued, on 07/09/2009, -3/+5I certainly hope not, that would end an entire brand of humor.
- Akademik25, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1I think the fact that there have been so many gay people in the media actually contributed to opening america's eyes to homosexuality.
- Bloodwine, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1I think he is referring to the fact that he BO is half-black and was raised in a white household?
Who knows, I don't understand the politics of mixed-race. Whites don't claim them because they view them as black, and blacks don't claim them because they view them as part white. All bets are off when a mixed race person becomes famous, then everybody fights to claim them. - 01arkone, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1What?
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1Considering "Bruno" is based on a stereotype. No.
- fxmulder, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1He's supposed to feel the pain of black people who were racially attacked? That suffered discrimination because of color instead of ability and heart? He wants the reverance of Dr. King, but takes credit for what he never will understand. The pain. The pain. Dr King stood on the mountain tops. Obama like the view from the valley.
- KahRahTay, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1that made me instantly both happy and sad. :/
such a sad ending... - 01arkone, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1I don't think ending it was the point.
- Lucas123, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1whah? Your logic is broken. You could potentially fear anyone who has power over you, whether they're homosexual, white, black or love M&Ms. The fear (or contempt turned to fear, as you say) has nothing to do with their sexual preference.
- GreatSunJester, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1OK, there are some here who will hate my words, but I think homophobia is the wrong word. Most people are not afraid of gays.
Most people who exhibit what is called *****'phobia' would actually better be described as having homomisia.... a disgust or revulsion at homosexulality instead of simple fear. But, it is more PC to use a term implying people are afraid of you instead of disgusted by you!
That being said, I think (looking internationally instead) John Barrowman is doing a better job of simply being what he is and being a positive example of 'gay' than a fictional flamer could ever hope to do.
Of course, what do I know? I am heterosexual and secure in it! - Tynictansol, on 07/15/2009, -0/+1Because a british comedian has the insight into America like no other does, and his own approach is so much more profound than others'. Perhaps next we'll see him do an aggressive, angry atheist so that we can be 'done' with that tiff too.
- oldhick, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1WTF???? Claim him? What?
- pussnuts, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1Why can't it just be a funny movie where I get to laugh as a highly flamboiant gay man makes unsuspecting others uncomfortable?
Borat didn't have this much ***** hype and it was hilarious. Can't we all just be happy that we can have a movie like Bruno? - andyb747, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1I ain't afraid of no homosapiens
