- hbyrne, on 11/04/2009, -0/+10Sad to see, as this is my neighborhood used bookstore, and like a lot of used bookstores, it is a cluttered treasure-trove. Yelp is mixed bag of insight and idiocy, but there's nothing there to ever justify a business owner going bonkers to such an extreme over a snarky review.
- aririn, on 11/04/2009, -0/+6The guy didn't actually buy anything.
- Gargo, on 11/04/2009, -0/+5Should have Kidnapped Him, His Neighbor, and his Neighbors Cat until he wrote a new review.
- quaxon, on 11/04/2009, -0/+5The best record/book store in SF is this very unkempt, dirty and extremely cluttered place in the Tenderloin. The owner is a homeless looking old man who hangs out with the crackheads in front of the store. Everything is in disarray, nothing is in order, books and record stacked high, some stacked have fallen so there are books all over the floors and the aisles and very tight. Regardless of all this, the place has some of the most amazingly rare records ive ever found though and the best part is there is no set price and you haggle whatever you wanna pay when youve grabbed what you wanted. The reviewer was a snob, but thats not to say the owner isnt crazy as *****.
- LilJimmyNordin, on 11/04/2009, -0/+5Yelp is *****. Anyone can post anything they like, completely unsubstantiated, and total ***** can just assassinate the reputation of good businesses at will. ***** Yelp.
- wassim2k, on 11/04/2009, -0/+4I believe his comment just because of her reaction to it.
- DCJoeDogv2, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3This never would have happened in New San Francisco, just saying.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bQVKYY5Fc8 - LadyFizzGig, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2It sounds like he walked into a crappy bookstore, decided he didn't want to buy anything there, and left to Yelp!
Just cause he didn't buy anything there doesn't mean he never went. - kkeut, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2um...what would Yelp possibly have to gain from backing up his story?
i'd say the harassing emails he received are real. hes got screens, and yelp also seemingly confirmed it. is it so hard to imagine the person who wrote those messages might go that one step further?
and whats with your overly strenuous questioning of a fairly plausible event?
you're obviously just trying to influence other's opinions as opposed to really analyzing the event in question.
what's your angle? store credit, perhaps?
"cops would never tell someone this"
is that so? well, burden of proof is on you. you see, your word alone "doesn't even begin to come close to even remotely proving that what he claims happened actually didn't happen". how's that shoe feel on the other foot? - fuzzynyanko, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Definitely not a way to get that Yelp statement retracted.
- diggdong, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2There has got to be more to the story.
- skipvt, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2My favorite bookstore is a cluttered mess of stacked books. There seems to be very little rhyme or reason to the organization, but if you ask the owner for a title, she knows exactly where it's at. It's eclectic, funky, and totally cool. It's not Barnes and Nobel or Borders, you can't get a frappichino and sit with the other posers. It's a bookstore owned by a book lover that caters to other book lovers.
P.S. I don't believe the owner is a nutbag, but I wouldn't like to find out. - Bridea, on 11/04/2009, -1/+3"The problem is Sean...says he never bought anything in the store."
Wait. So the guy has never bought anything in the store? - tugger, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1hell hath no fury....
- tyne101101, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Full of libelous comments from snobby reviewers made by Yelppers. What a joke.
- anotherjack, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1If anyone is suspicious, it's all of you.
(<.<) they're everywhere (>.>) - BerateBirthers, on 11/04/2009, -0/+0Quiet you. Don't you see the goldmine in suing Yelp? Let him be.
- zitsky, on 11/04/2009, -1/+0Those "screens" are just text, with no identifying information whatsoever. So, perhaps Yelp management has the original messages and has seen them. What I've seen posted online does not prove they were sent by the bookstore owner. He could have posted messages with the userid or email address blacked out. Instead, all I see are some crazy writing that could have been written by anyone. Before we destroy this owner's business, I'd like to see more proof.
- inactive, on 11/04/2009, -1/+0Or less, which is more likely. As in, it didn't happen.
- inactive, on 11/04/2009, -2/+0kkeut...Yelp has lots to gain by standing by someone who made a post on teir site. They think it lends their crappy ass site credibility.
Again...this is a company that used to try to extort money from businessses by having their own employees write bad reviews on businesses and then offered to remove those reviews if those businesses would adverise with them.
This is not a reputable site.
And even if they were...how would THEY know that this guy didn't make it up?
Again...,a police report would be VERY easy to produce. The guy would HAVE to have gotte one.. Yet he chose not to produce it.
And since you said the burdern of proof is on me...why the ***** are you not requiring proof that the event itself happened? Sorry, you dumb *****...but the burden of proof is NOT on me to prove that the cop didn't say that. (Impossible to prove a negative. Anyone whose brain actually functions would know that.)The burden of proof is on him to prove that he did. And a police report would do that.
I am definitely starting to think you work for Yelp. There is no way someone would just blindly defend Yelp in this case.
As for hthe screenshots...who gives a ***** if they are real or not ? It does not prove the actual crime that he claims was committed. There is a BIG step between sending threatening e-mails and actually showing up at someone's house. - djrbx, on 11/04/2009, -4/+2………………….._,,-~’’’¯¯¯’’~-,,

It is not as if people actually give a ***** about Yelp to begin with. - inactive, on 11/04/2009, -3/+1Wait a second..NO ONE is questioning this story? Lots of inconsistencies and ignorant claims in it. And those screenshots don't even begin to come close to even remotely proving that what he claims happened actually did happen. And the fact that someone from Yelp back him up sure as ***** doesn't prove anything with the reputation that Yelp earned with their shady, borderline illegal actions earlier this year.
If he wanted to prove it, why wouldn't he produce a copy of the police report. You know..the one where the cops acted very unprofessionally and talked about how they woukd "recommened a 72 hour psychiatric hold" (cops would never tall someone this) - BerateBirthers, on 11/04/2009, -3/+0Then how can he complain about their service? Frankly, the lady should be suing him for defamation.
- inactive, on 11/04/2009, -6/+1Only 3 comments? Now there's 4.
- BerateBirthers, on 11/04/2009, -7/+1That is what happens when a company allows anonymous unauthorized reviews. Yelp should demand a receipt and background information on the purchaser, so that business store owners can respond with the service requested.
