- hoofhockey, on 10/20/2008, -6/+30I never heard of this banksy until just recently... but from what ive seen, his work is amazing, this only further pushes that idea :-)
- georgetds, on 10/21/2008, -1/+25How do they hold umbrella's then, smart guy?
- Glitchwerks, on 10/21/2008, -0/+14Banksy does have a thing for rats though.
- ledmonkey, on 10/21/2008, -2/+14It's on his website, although It seems to me that Bansky isn't one person.
- cJw314, on 10/21/2008, -0/+11How do they hold umbrella's what?
What could the umbrellas own that the rats might be holding? - ryanonfire, on 10/21/2008, -0/+11His pet store is crazy http://www.environmentalgraffiti.com/offbeat-news/ ...
- soccerman90, on 10/21/2008, -0/+9hm seems bansky is on a US tour
- depro9, on 10/21/2008, -0/+8I hope he comes to Chicago soon.
- klick37, on 10/21/2008, -3/+11If Banksy likes Obama, digg will have a big collective orgasm.
- fieldhockey44, on 10/21/2008, -0/+7It's on his website, so it's probably safe to assume it's his.
- quickgold192, on 10/21/2008, -0/+7Catch him in the act? i didn't see him in any of those pictures. Did i miss something?
Edit: Nevermind, you have to check the sources linked at the bottom. - mackattack, on 10/21/2008, -7/+14Buried as Inaccurate. Rats don't have thumbs.
- Troupkid, on 10/21/2008, -0/+6But without thumbs.... snapping..... sigh
- LifeIsARhythm, on 10/21/2008, -0/+6To everyone saying its not Banksy it is. But this isn't his usual MO. All of the big paintings in NYC, I believe there are three, were put on buildings that were bought as ad space. He designed the paintings and then had a company put them up to bring awareness to his exhibit in the Village.
- ElectroStep, on 10/21/2008, -0/+6Took me a while to see that the guy painting over one of the rats is actually a stencil.... Opps.
- fribhey, on 10/21/2008, -0/+6banksy is one person.... these huge murals in the city were put up by hired hands.
- ElectroStep, on 10/21/2008, -0/+5It's Banksys work - it's on Wooster, his own site, other street art sites, etc.
Even without that it's pretty obvious, he's done the sketchy versions of the rats and apes before. Pick up his book, only about half of his work is stencils, even less in the last few years since he's been doing shows, re-mixing paintings, sculptures, exhibits & whatever.
Blek Le Rat is still the soul father of all this of course, including the rats. - zerogeist, on 10/21/2008, -0/+5no it's not, backwards Rat is Tar.
- kitsua, on 10/21/2008, -1/+6Too late. It's already hip to say he's sold out or overrated or some such predictable tosh.
- DaHuuuuuudge, on 10/21/2008, -1/+6Oh snap.
- Sbebo, on 10/21/2008, -0/+5Banksy is insane. check his site out:
http://www.banksy.co.uk/
I think the amazing part of this is how he's able to get away with putting up this enormous mural and not getting caught, especially in as busy a place as NYC. - fribhey, on 10/21/2008, -1/+6if you don't think it's his style then the only thing you know about banksy is what you see on digg.
- cJw314, on 10/21/2008, -0/+4Republican != conservative... at least not *always*.
- GREEDOnvrFIRED, on 10/21/2008, -1/+5Here is one I spotted on Houston in NYC this weekend.
http://greedoneverfired.blogspot.com/2008/10/banks ... - regression, on 10/21/2008, -0/+3because he is a ninja.
- multitude, on 10/21/2008, -0/+3All of these paintings, along with their locations, are also now featured at http://refacement.com/.
- NEWNHLISLAME, on 10/21/2008, -0/+3MIRROR IS BROKE~~
- ledmonkey, on 10/21/2008, -0/+3I'm not referring to the multiple people working on the photos. I'm just suggesting that this could be a project by multiple people. I mean no one REALLY knows who Bansky is right?
- laubscher, on 10/21/2008, -0/+3This one shows him (and an assistant, it seems) in action:

http://flickr.com/photos/sabeth718/2907899694/in/s ... - Indophil, on 10/21/2008, -3/+6I think Banksy is probably a little too intelligent to believe in politicians, or the brainless political processes we have.
- fribhey, on 10/21/2008, -0/+3yeah, it's his first official show in NYC and is pretty amazing. here are some photos i took of it:
http://www.johngrayson.com/photos/banksy/index.htm ... - multitude, on 10/21/2008, -0/+3Another from the Banksy "rat" series in Soho: http://refacement.com/refacements/40
This one shows the Rat painting over a Fox news logo. Awesome stuff! - Mujokan, on 10/21/2008, -1/+4Even though we've been screwed over by greedy powerful people yet again, at least we still have art.
Reminds me of an essay by George Orwell, written just after World War Two, which ends like this.
"At any rate, spring is here, even in London N. 1, and they can't stop you enjoying it. This is a satisfying reflection. How many a time have I stood watching the toads mating, or a pair of hares having a boxing match in the young corn, and thought of all the important persons who would stop me enjoying this if they could. But luckily they can't.
So long as you are not actually ill, hungry, frightened or immured in a prison or a holiday camp, spring is still spring. The atom bombs are piling up in the factories, the police are prowling through the cities, the lies are streaming from the loudspeakers, but the earth is still going round the sun, and neither the dictators nor the bureaucrats, deeply as they disapprove of the process, are able to prevent it."
(If you wonder why he refers to "toads mating", read the essay.)
http://www.orwell.ru/library/articles/Common_Toad/ ... - JoshuaGross, on 10/21/2008, -3/+5And if you're not a Republican, you must be an Obama supporter?
- etement, on 10/21/2008, -0/+2Saw this up close a few days ago. Well done.
- inactive, on 10/21/2008, -0/+2Let them eat derivatives!
- JoshuaGross, on 10/21/2008, -0/+2http://www.banksy.co.uk/outdoors/horizontal_1.htm
- DaHuuuuuudge, on 10/21/2008, -1/+3I don't remember saying that.
- Remy1985, on 10/21/2008, -0/+2I have to admit I kind of like the thought that he is multiple people. Almost like foot soldiers in his gorilla art army.
- SmartedPanda, on 10/21/2008, -0/+2This piece is actually designed by Banksy, and painted on by professional painters. Just in this case, people suspect he's getting paid good cash. Most of his work has been painted over by pissed off property owners, but in this case no one knows for sure if it's a professionally hired work or he just got commissioned to tag these up, and hired taggers/painters to do it for him.
- fribhey, on 10/21/2008, -0/+2it's banksy
the murals coincide with his first official show in NYC:
http://thevillagepetstoreandcharcoalgrill.com/ - multitude, on 10/21/2008, -0/+2Banksy really puts out awesome stuff. A mirror, some more pics and the location of this mural are here: http://refacement.com/refacements/39
- fribhey, on 10/21/2008, -0/+2the people putting up the murals were hired by banksy to put them up.
- idreamwideyed, on 10/21/2008, -1/+3it was even better in person. all four of them were fantastic.
- je12u, on 10/21/2008, -0/+2Why do they call 'em fingers?
- enakra, on 10/21/2008, -0/+2@DaH
Well, you did seem to imply that. Intentional or not. - NEWNHLISLAME, on 10/21/2008, -0/+2Umm another mirror is broke! lol
