Profound! Incredible works. It's nice to see other artists of the genre too, like c215 and sten. They owe a lot of their style to Banksy but that doesn't detract from their work. I'm also pleased that none of the work is for sale. These pieces are the truest expression of frustration and isolation of the modern commercialized world.
Banksy's stuff is pretty cool, it's nice to see someone do something with spray paint other than write something retarded like "Blaze" or "Casper" on the side of a mailbox.
Its amazing how ignorant people are when it comes to stencil street art. They see a stencil'ed piece and instantly call it as one of Banksy's work. Not every painting out there is by Van Gogh, nor is every marble sculpture by Michelangelo.
I met Banksy in the street in Brighton many years ago and told him how much i liked his stencil street works. This was before his fame. He was a nice guy. Since then he made his fame and i lived in Shoreditch for many years surrounded by his work, i also had the privilege of meeting his agent and worked for a high end gallery interested in his work. Bottom line is that as much as his work is pleasing, and i say that from a personal perspective, it is not anything more than that. It engages in very little and caters to a mass populous without really engaging in anything. It is just pretty, sudo-political nonsense. digg me down if you like, but i know you will find much more interesting work if you are truly interested in art.
Remember when you were four years old, and you drew on your mom's wall with some crayons? Remember how many beatings you've received until you've learned? Obviously, these guys don't have nerve endings on their asses. Now look at them, accomplished artists. Dugg for extreme awsomeness.
i went on saturday at 10am, and also again on monday afternoon to see the developments at the public end. Lots of fairly weak advertising and political crap, but bags of talent. loved it.
Lined up for 2 hours on Saturday to see this... bloody well worth it, show of the century is right.. I was truly moved by this show, makes a change from the usual pseudo-intelligent modern art ***** you find in most galleries
These are not all banksy, if anything I think this event was created to show there are a lot of artists around that do a similar style to banksy, but have not had the coverage and luck as much as he has. The other artists work is just as good, but never really placed in such open places such as the locations in London. Since being recognized every toff and art fag that reads the dreaded daily mail or times now trys to be hip and think his work is “cool” and spend ridiculous amounts on similar prints on canvas.
I just wish that everyone including the media would not brand anyone who either picks up a can of Montana or makes any form of street art a “wannabe banksy” Graffiti and street art has been around for ages worldwide, he just exposed it to the right crowd and made money from it. Props to him for that.
One last thing I think is amazing, is how he`s been “getting up” ie painting at the spots he has done and without being noticed. Not only are these in high visability areas, he`s got a 7ft piece of cardboard and a bunch of cans with him, which are ***** noisy!
Its quite funny and ironic how his art is actually performed without peoples permission and is actually illegal, yet if u got a bansky piece made on your building, you could literally sell it for a couple hundred thousand.
Isnt it great how the 4th branch of the government aka the media can work to some peoples advantage…
Some cool work in there. Maybe the nay-sayers would think differently of graffiti and street art if there were more of this around the streets.
