Awesome Light Graffiti Pictures
abduzeedo.com — Long Exposure pictures can get pretty awesome if you have the right ideas. One of the coolest ideas is to make sweet light graffiti with this camera option.During all summer I've played with it, and made some nice pictures (some other day I'll post it), but not as nice as some of these pictures right here!
- 1543 diggs
- digg it
- LUCCHINA, on 04/03/2008, -16/+5I love this idea. Very creative Pictures. Stumbled upon... :-)
- rockrodger, on 04/03/2008, -0/+9Stumble into a dugg grave
- navexxx, on 04/03/2008, -1/+6Very nice....
- BiotMessiah, on 04/03/2008, -11/+4Thanks reddit for the heads up.
- xxMarka, on 04/03/2008, -0/+3that is an easy way to get dugg down here.
- Blanchflower, on 04/03/2008, -8/+38This is real painting with light. When they talk about modern art this is what it should be, not stupid shapes by people who can't draw.
- esteskid, on 04/03/2008, -4/+21no no it's just a black circle, it represents my soul's inner pain and the darkness of human nature. It's circular because I'm a Buddhist, we'll kind of, I read about it Internet, and stuff is definitely circular in Buddhism.
- mickstephenson, on 04/03/2008, -0/+3I prefer this kind of light graffiti http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/341052.st ...
- xanadu2113, on 04/03/2008, -0/+2she's pretty
- mickstephenson, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1Sadly she now suffers alopecia, here is her pictured with a shameless, spoon-bending TV con-artist prick http://www.uri-geller.com/gallery/celebrities/2006 ...
- xanadu2113, on 04/03/2008, -0/+2she's pretty
- kickelephant, on 04/03/2008, -2/+2I used to agree with that, but then I went to college. With that statement, you know nothing about art. I bet you just LOVE Dali and Escher, am I right?
- mickstephenson, on 04/03/2008, -3/+3"Ooooh look at me I'm so post modern I consider my entire life to be a piece of living art, look at me wearing white gloves, I'm like some kind of internet mime, look here is me miming drinking coffee, its not real coffee mind you, and I chose not to wear gloves. Consider the meaning behind that? You'll never get it! you snivelling art noobs! go back to your tangible world of things that exist and make sense."
What a ***** you are- kickelephant, on 04/03/2008, -2/+3chill out there turbo, are you pissed because I said something above your head?
- mickstephenson, on 04/03/2008, -0/+4No I am taking the piss out of you because you ever so condescendingly said this. "I bet you just LOVE Dali and Escher, am I right?". Above my head? Explain to me this what, did you say that was above my head? You didn't say anything, your comment had no value you said "I went to college, I understand, you don't, you know nothing" arrrrgh my brain is imploding how could could I possibly understand the wisdom and knowledge of that sentence. Why don't you try again and explain why he is wrong, instead of stating your own brilliance and mocking him.
- kickelephant, on 04/03/2008, -2/+3chill out there turbo, are you pissed because I said something above your head?
- Shizlanski, on 04/03/2008, -0/+3Whats the point of this crappy modern art (ie random shape with apparent meaning) if you need a college degree to understand it? Thats stupid. True art doesnt need a college degree to be appreciated.
- ChiffX, on 04/03/2008, -0/+10It felt like they got better as I went down the list. The guitar, pacman, and the lightning gun are definitely my favourites.
- LowROI, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1Nah man the robots!!
- AHolmes360, on 04/03/2008, -5/+3Love this kind of stuff. I've been seeing more and more graffiti popping up in SF.
- ieataquacrayons, on 04/03/2008, -1/+17Dugg for the garbage can robots.
- mercury187, on 04/03/2008, -3/+32i dont understand how they paint with light. I understand how the long exposure works but why cant you see them standing in the picture moving lights around????
- DeskFlyer, on 04/03/2008, -0/+25Because the light source you are painting with projects highly contrasting light to the CCD sensor (or film if you are still into that) and your person isn't. If you move quickly enough, you won't be seen at all. Even if you hang out in one spot for a duration of the exposure, you'll still only see a ghost of yourself. The longer the exposure, the better the results.
There are other factors to consider, such as what clothes you are wearing, the ambient lighting conditions, background, etc.- gooberguy, on 04/03/2008, -0/+5what kind of light source would that be? interested.
- DeskFlyer, on 04/03/2008, -0/+2I like using LED flashlights or lasers, they seem to produce the best results. Of course, any sort of bright light will work.
- LowROI, on 04/03/2008, -0/+2Those rave sticks work great
- DeeprBlue, on 04/03/2008, -0/+3I used whatever was on hand at the time I found myself bored and with a DSLR. A cellphone does the trick just fine!
- dariendynamite, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1actually, wouldn't you be "painting" from behind the camera? that's what I've done.
- gooberguy, on 04/03/2008, -0/+5what kind of light source would that be? interested.
- kickelephant, on 04/03/2008, -0/+5Some of those take a different approach. They set the shutter for a long time, (from 2 to 30+ seconds) (F3.5 or bigger also), but when the shutter opens, you can set the camera to flash initial, flooding the room or whatever. THEN mess around with the flashlight, lighter,LED etc.
- rockrodger, on 04/03/2008, -0/+5This is inspiring. Although it reminds me of Photoshop's neon feature. How does the photographer and his light twirling and writing subject not get exposed in the film. I have tried and failed at this as my subject and their hands appear in the picture. Can someone give me an inside hint?
- DeskFlyer, on 04/03/2008, -1/+5Please see my reply to the post above. Also, have you tried wearing black gloves and clothing? It should help prevent you from reflecting any ambient light from whatever you're holding back into the camera.
- DeskFlyer, on 04/03/2008, -1/+5Oops, I meant to say just 'light', not 'ambient light' there. Ugh, I need sleep.
- ohhector, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1That all has to do with the exposure time, and if there is any ambient light around.
Long exposure, no ambient...no "ghost" images of painter in the photo.
- strobelite33, on 04/03/2008, -1/+5dugg for lightning guns
- SmellyFingers, on 04/03/2008, -9/+3Awesome, bro. Got your shout. I be straight duggin.
- otis12, on 04/03/2008, -0/+3There is something cool about colorful lights, very nice
- mewoot10, on 04/03/2008, -1/+2That's admirable, and inspiring. It's so awesome.
- drewfer, on 04/03/2008, -2/+4I love these pictures. Heres some of my own
http://www.flickr.com/photos/andrewfernandez/sets/ ...- SonicEarth, on 04/03/2008, -2/+1Don't click it, it's a Rick Roll link!
- danielsamuels, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1wtf?
- SonicEarth, on 04/03/2008, -2/+1Don't click it, it's a Rick Roll link!
- Maxmojo015, on 04/03/2008, -18/+3My dad sat next to Ron Paul on his plane trip home from dc like 3 hours ago
just thought it was relevant to the subject- FUR10N, on 04/03/2008, -0/+11wtf
- radarbeam, on 04/03/2008, -0/+11I don't get the "explosion" one... How were they able to stay suspended over the ground long enough to be exposed on the shot?
- mrgeekguy, on 04/03/2008, -1/+2Witches?
- magic6435, on 04/03/2008, -3/+1Tripod. Two frames. Merge.
- yourmightyruler, on 04/03/2008, -1/+4It's called flash.
- GliTCH82, on 04/03/2008, -0/+2http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/1096/2137a9950n ...
- ChayD, on 04/03/2008, -0/+10Howto: draw explosion graffitti in pitch dark room with shutter open, ask friends to jump, then fire just the flash (with the shutter still open) Result is that the flash lights up and exposes friends at the moment they jump, leaving them otherwise unexposed whilst the drawing is taking place.
- radarbeam, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1Thank you mate!
- DeskFlyer, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1I'm not sure since I never really tried this technique yet, but I'd guess that they set off a low level strobe during the jump just to capture that particular moment.
- macbookhair, on 04/03/2008, -3/+2Sprint viral advertising?
- ohhector, on 04/03/2008, -0/+42DUGG for having a photo I took in there!!!
haha
(it's near the end, the one of a guy with steam coming out of his ears)
If anyone would like to see what else I've been doing with this, you can check out my light painting sets here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ohhector/collections/ ...- soulpatrol, on 04/03/2008, -0/+0wicked. I liked that one.
- UltraMegaFilms, on 04/03/2008, -1/+1Nice going! You look like a Looney Toon.
- ohhector, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1It's not me, that's my friend...heh...but thanks.
- maxwalter, on 04/03/2008, -7/+1most of those were made on a computer.
adobe aftereffects maybe? its been a while.- kweli, on 04/03/2008, -1/+2why you gotta go and say that?
these people put effort into these and you're just standing there puttin' 'em down - ohhector, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1Don't be so quick to call "photoshop" on everything...if you'd take a moment to actually LOOK at the photos and see how inconsistent the lights are you'd see for sure that it wasn't a photoshop job at all.
- kweli, on 04/03/2008, -1/+2why you gotta go and say that?
- mynameisjonas, on 04/03/2008, -0/+5One of my favorite examples was in the cover of Saves The Day's new album:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51z8oLIVKFL. ...

- Misogyny, on 04/03/2008, -0/+0What difference does it make?
- DroogInPhoenix, on 04/03/2008, -0/+2A DSLR
- twigboy, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1some of those really reminded me of the more recent "need for speed" games
- D14BL0, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1I've messed around with light graffiti a few times before. Never did anything as elaborate as some of the stuff shown in the article, but it's definitely a fun thing to mess with, and doesn't necessarily take a whole lot of skill to make something that looks pretty cool, too. Really fun to mess with.
- MAG1CO, on 04/03/2008, -0/+2Hmm ok list but these guys do it best - you will be amazed, http://www.behance.net/LICHTFAKTOR
- ohhector, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1They are, behind the Sprint team, probably the best out there.
- BryanTheCrow, on 04/03/2008, -0/+7Here's how it's done: http://www.wonderhowto.com/arts-crafts/street-art- ...

- cheez124, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1been there done that, i wrote ballin when that song was popular with lights

- acoustix, on 04/03/2008, -0/+0Dugg for making me cry... Inside and out.
- SonicEarth, on 04/03/2008, -2/+2It's photoshopped.
- arcanesmile, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1thats what i think.. but its still cool.. just dont ***** lie about it ;p
- Monkeywithacold, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1My friends and I actually just did this the other day...It is really fun to think of ideas.
My friend and I did those Hiduken things from Street Fighter, and it turned out pretty well. - LoudMusic, on 04/03/2008, -0/+2How the hell does "Om nom nom" have more than twice as many diggs as this?
- mrosen310, on 04/03/2008, -2/+2nice but most are shopped
- LowROI, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1Nope.
- arcanesmile, on 04/03/2008, -1/+2Yup.
- danielsamuels, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1Nope.
- arcanesmile, on 04/03/2008, -1/+2Yup.
- LowROI, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1Nope.
- ritter99, on 04/03/2008, -0/+3This is one of the nicest collection I've seen so far.
I just wonder why they call it "Graffiti"? There's nothing of the Graffiti-spirit in those pictures, since they neither have a political statement nor do they last and are seen on public spaces.
It's all "digital" stuff. And being digital stuff, I wonder why this should be cool (compared to all the other things on deviantart or flickr). Apart from the fun people are obviously having while making them. - InsaneOni, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1Tetsuo!!!!!!!!!
- clownx, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1I personally think SprintSpeed is about 15 kph.
- fhsieh, on 04/03/2008, -0/+2Try these:

- Arisian, on 04/03/2008, -1/+1
- digitalpencil, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1Took you all that time to work out that these are shopped.. : )
- Balzak65, on 04/03/2008, -4/+0er...you guys do know this is done with a Photoshop tool right? You baically paint with what looks like light.
- digitalpencil, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1Ok.. I want to take the trash can home! That thing's so cute!
- zanthrax, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1Awesome art created with dataloggers for radiation in the visable spectrum!
- Zeldafreak104, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1I wish I had a camera that could do this...
- pshoaxbuster, on 04/03/2008, -0/+0None of those effects were "Photoshopped". It's a technique painting with light. I'm sure it was edited in Photoshop to enhance the effect, but the effects themselves are authentic.
- TROY7, on 04/04/2008, -0/+0This is incredible. I just love watching those Sprint commercials and this is one truly unique art form.
