- spydr101, on 10/29/2009, -28/+187I bet he's listening to an audio tape recording that details every building and location.
- 45superman, on 10/29/2009, -1/+133Astounding.
- ObamaYouth, on 10/30/2009, -6/+128They are not autistic. They just don't want to talk to us. I don't blame them.
- zimsters, on 10/30/2009, -5/+90Amazing how a story like this will get a handful of comments, a couple of hundred diggs.
Replace the autistic guy with a cat and the drawing with a haz cheezeburger and suddenly it'll have thousands of comments and hits. - alanocu, on 10/29/2009, -2/+54Incredible. (jaw drops and hits the floor)
- DaviDTC, on 10/30/2009, -1/+47Seen this guy on tv before, damn amazing.
http://www.stephenwiltshire.co.uk/gallery.aspx Almost 200 drawings - PlatnumPlatypus, on 10/30/2009, -0/+43Wow. I thought the dude would have drawn just the main buildings..... which he did... in addition to every single peice of artchitecture in Manhattan and beyond.
- PointGiven, on 10/29/2009, -4/+45Incredible! After seeing the schlock that gets passed off as art today, it's great to see works like this.
- tokuturfey, on 10/30/2009, -0/+37If that were the case, this would still be terribly impressive...
- ccpearce5, on 10/29/2009, -1/+36Favorite story of the day. AWESOME.
- lynucs, on 10/30/2009, -1/+29He just made my memory look like crap and... I can't remember what else I was going to say. grrr
- monkzero, on 10/30/2009, -0/+28I remember watching the Tokyo video. I am just amazed at his talent. Great pics of his work.
Here's the Tokyo video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqQffcEHrb8 - RAAFStupot, on 10/30/2009, -4/+31Dugg as he uses a 0.3 mm Staedler technical pen.
- diggaligg, on 10/30/2009, -5/+30I think it's more of a technical drawing from super memory than art.
- Quixotist, on 10/30/2009, -1/+25If my cat drew an 18ft. cheeseburger, I'd be impressed.
- LoneWolf01, on 10/30/2009, -0/+17I wonder what he'd draw if you told him to draw something random from his imagination instead of a technical drawing.
- ChronicColonic, on 10/29/2009, -2/+19That is impressive! That is way better that drawing a map of the United States by memory...maybe he should run for Senator.
- thetruckert, on 10/30/2009, -1/+17It must suck not knowing about all the amazing art that's out today.
- njbignell, on 10/30/2009, -0/+16Heres a video of him drawing rome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVqRT_kCOLI
- PowderedToasty, on 10/30/2009, -1/+13It seems like there are super powers locked away in us that only get out in some people, but at a very high cost. I wonder if we can ever harness that and learn how to unlock the good parts without the bad.
- sylvester76, on 10/30/2009, -1/+13Beautiful Mind
- noahgelman, on 10/30/2009, -2/+13What really amazes me is that in each of our heads, we all have the capacity to do this.
- JumboJ3t, on 10/30/2009, -1/+12Nope. Not mine. Promise.
- stockwitch, on 10/29/2009, -2/+12That is incredible - great find.
- LordPhoenyx, on 10/30/2009, -3/+12Saw how On discovery channel drawing Rome. Farkign incredible.
all from Memory - wtfevan, on 10/30/2009, -2/+10he missed a building
- kamikazicondon, on 10/30/2009, -1/+9He is a savant. Savants tend to be autistic for the most part, but not all of them are completely autistic. Daniel Tammet is an example of a savant that is relatively normal.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savant_syndrome - RAAFStupot, on 10/30/2009, -2/+10Reminds me of the Jorge Luis Borges story 'Funes the Memorious'
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Funes_the_Memorious
Go and check that out - amazing ideas.
I wonder if Stephen Lawrence has a mental idea of a generic dog - or if he can only recall specific dogs that he has previously observed. - woofers07, on 10/30/2009, -0/+8Uh yeah... I heard someone say something about a cat. Where do I click to see it?
- twiztidsinz, on 10/30/2009, -0/+8Savantism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savantism and is around 1 in 10 for an autistic person.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgHAmshyNP8 - sajuuk, on 10/30/2009, -7/+14Its art. Way more so than modern art. The only thing that can compete with this in modern times is depth-perception enabled street chalk art.
- Sraser, on 10/30/2009, -6/+13Re: sajuuk
Your grasp of contemporary art is pretty slim, then. - basickly, on 10/30/2009, -0/+6You give "real" art too much credit, imo.
Or you give illustration too little credit, I don't know. - smord, on 10/31/2009, -1/+7Digg users' knowledge of art consists of: stuff like this story, steampunk Star Wars characters, tacky photoshop photo-mosaics, hideous HDR photography, and Banksy.
All other art falls under the category of "some jerk slapping paint on a canvas and selling it for $1000000". - Zdorab, on 10/30/2009, -0/+6I did a huge report on savantism last year with a friend. This guy has done more than just New York, in past years he's done France and many other cities, including Tokyo.
Savant's can do crazy stuff. Like echolocate. Or have a perfect internal clock. Or hear any piece of music and play it right back, mistakes and all. Or memorize Pi to 22514 digits. Or have 1200 books perfectly memorized word for word. - Sporky023, on 10/30/2009, -1/+7I met an autistic guy at a party in NYC once. He didn't seem to see it as a problem. We both did some acid and talked about programming. Fascinating guy.
- 12D3, on 10/30/2009, -0/+6It really is one of the more amazing things I have seen. When I see something like this, something that is so beyond what we perceive as something that can realistically be done, I just think of how much the brain is capable of. Then I think how sad how the majority is using so little of it.
- diggaligg, on 10/30/2009, -4/+10Good art should be about evoking feelings in a person. Depth perception street chalk art is sensational graphic work meant to amaze and entertain people. It's fun but you wouldn't hang it on your wall.
- TyrelVnne, on 10/31/2009, -0/+5I have already forgotten what you were talking about as i write this.
- Gareth321, on 10/31/2009, -0/+5That made me literally laugh out loud. Now I think they're smarter than all of us. They made the conscious decision at an early age to opt out of this ridiculous human "race".
- majortom1981, on 10/30/2009, -2/+6MY fiance has some autistic cousins in her family (not very bad but enough that you can tell) and From what I have seen autistic people can usually do one thing very very well.

- zKman, on 10/30/2009, -0/+3I knew an autistic person in scouts. He knew everything about refrigerators, and had an encyclopedic knowledge of the brands and models...
- JDLamb88, on 10/30/2009, -0/+3Yeah but I'll bet he didn't get me sitting on that bench in....omg he did! It even shows the song I was listening to on my Ipod, and the time on my watch!
- IJstickI, on 10/30/2009, -0/+3wow... when i read skyline i was picturing like an angle in which 10 buildings would be drawn..... this is amazing
- kaidovak, on 10/31/2009, -0/+3if people made it, it's art
