- AlxRymnd914, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2They are both kick-ass.
- Jess2mix, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1It's BS. That Rumor started because the shows share the same producers. That would seriously suck to link the two together. Lost is a drawn out boring show that has nothing to do with the comic book universe.
- Jess2mix, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1*****, they still have to finish Season 2 first.......................WAITING
- kinggimped, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Season 2 is finished. It was shortened due to the writer's strike.
The easiest way to tell is that in the last episode of season 2, it said in massive letters across the bottom of the screen "END OF SEASON 2". Then, 2 seconds later, it said "SEASON 3: VILLAINS", with the Sylar/Popeye scene.
I hate that I know that, since season 2 pretty much wiped all the faith I had in this show right out. To be honest it's overrated already; but just like Lost, I keep watching just because I'm invested in it and want to know what happens. However, it does have the odd moment that makes it worth it, again, like Lost. You can really tell the two shows share producers, especially in the way the story is told.
(Great drawing, by the way. Though since they use that Zero 7 tune as the hold music in the place I used to work, I had to mute it. God damn it.)

- dullnation, on 07/07/2008, -13/+22These speed drawings always use 2D reference. When you take a photo and you have it there in front of you on paper, a portion of the work has already been done for you; The translation of a 3D form into a two dimensional interpretation of it. I would like to see some speed drawings of actual life drawings. I wonder how this particular person would handle such a task. Still a very good video.

- artish, on 07/07/2008, -3/+1You people alllways think that drawing from photos and prints is "cheating",
But after you've drawn for some time and using a reference, it really doesn't matter if you're drawing from life or from photos
In fact, in my opinion, drawing from life is easier, because you can rotate around your "object", and understand it better.
The major difficulty in drawing such portraits from life, is for the model, to hold still that long.- dullnation, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2I never implied this is cheating. I'm saying drawing from a photo and drawing a life drawing is very different. Obviously, being able to move around a 3D object can help you understand it far more easily but having a photo in front of you does add some advantages. A rather wide dynamic range of light has been condensed into something that can be printed, also easily copied. Also, if you're doing a 1:1 drawing, the eye doesn't have as much trouble judging lenghs and distances. I think this is more obvious with a model that might show a large amount of foreshortening in a life drawing session. Becaucse we see everything in 3D, it is very difficult to simplify that information onto paper. When this has already been done by a camera for you, lines all of a sudden become more obvious. Where as an arm coming towards you looks like a huge object in reality, you all of a sudden realize that you can only really see a fist on a photo. It was these factors I was commenting on when I mentioned that drawing from photo reference is different to life drawing.
More importantly though, I do realize the only way most people will ever draw Masi Oka is from a photo. - drqshadow, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2"You people" OMG racist!

Then it would be the ultimate thing ever to exists - a1cd, on 07/07/2008, -5/+19Obviously it is Hiro drawing this, he just froze time.
- xDynaBlade, on 07/07/2008, -5/+6This guy's power is obviously the ability to draw really, really fast...
- cornerbodega, on 07/07/2008, -7/+1oh noes! my skills-- she doesnt exist!
- ahoyhoy1, on 07/07/2008, -6/+62This is not a speed drawing, it's just some guy copying a photo at regular speed.
- Larsonal777, on 07/07/2008, -7/+5Yeah I'm torn between the fact that the submitter lied to us all (This drawing took 6 hours) and the fact that the artist is still pretty darn talented...
I actually think it takes MORE talent to copy something exactly how you (and everyone else) see(s) it then it does to be an "artist" who puts their spin on it. Hey I couldn't do that, much less in 6 hours!- alboin, on 07/07/2008, -3/+7I could train a monkey to make a better picture. All I'd have to do would be to give him a camera, and have him press the button.
It takes MORE talent to make unique art then it does to copy a photograph. Granted, this guy is very talented, but he isn't creating anything new by just copying a picture to every detail, and if all he does is show off his technical talent, he really isn't making anything interesting at all. Think if Monet created realistic work as 'everyone else saw it'. It would just be the same old stuff. No excitement, nothing. The fact is that to translate a scene to a medium takes more than just copying what you see. - ahoyhoy1, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2But the cold hard truth is, there are many, many, MANY people out there who are just as good as him or better. Walk into any upper level college drawing class and you will see people that do stuff just as good as him.
No it does not take MORE talent to copy something exactly, but practice and dedication. Natural talent will only take you so far. After that you need to train and improve your skills. What I'm saying is every artists with natural talent can do what that guy in the video did if they put enough time and effort to better themselves.
Now you spend hours, weeks, years into making your drawing skills perfect. But guess what a camera can do it better then you. Why should I care about your artwork?
What I'm trying to say is, that there has to be a reason behind your artwork. And if the reason is good enough (not "I'm a fan of heroes so I'll copy someone else's photograph), then it will be a good artwork. - Pusod, on 07/07/2008, -2/+1Yeah, What Albion said...

I'm sorry but the only way to truly see an artists skills are to see his control in drawing what he AND everybody else sees... then and only then when he makes something unique can someone say he is actually making every stroke purposefully instead of putting pencil to paper and seeing what happens... ANYone can do that...
Do you think these famous artists that you speak of started off with their most famous works? No most had to show off their skills with realistic paintings first.
And if you think its so EASY I'd like to see you do the same... go on... submit a vid of yourself trying to copy a picture.
- alboin, on 07/07/2008, -3/+7I could train a monkey to make a better picture. All I'd have to do would be to give him a camera, and have him press the button.
- gadgetlust, on 07/07/2008, -0/+6I'm with Larsonal. Even the time lapse was too damn long for this to be a "Speed Drawing" -- but there is no denying that the artist has got some seriously impressive technical abilities.
- HigherLogic, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2His other videos are incredible, especially the one with the girl and the milk and cookies. Very realistic.
- SomeImagination, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Yeah apologies I didn't mean to deceive anyone, I meant speed drawing as in speeded up but I guess thats a whole different thing, sorry!

- Elderon, on 07/07/2008, -7/+4That was awesome, but to be fair it wasn't really a speed drawing. Anything can be a speed drawing if you fast forward the video to make it fast. That said though, the guy has an amazing gift. I wish I could draw something like that and have it look like a photograph.

- necromancer, on 07/07/2008, -1/+6If only someone would invent some sort of machine that could duplicate or images quickly and easily. Some sort of "photo-copier" if you will. People could then use it to reproduce works without having to spend hours drawing by hand.
But seriously, that is an impressive amount of skill. - LavaWarrior, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Looks like a photocopy, amazing...
- ansatsu29, on 07/07/2008, -0/+5Its not speed drawing...its a time lapsed video...
- Lukinator, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Somewhere along the line, the ability to draw was lost from my family's gene pool.
Damn shame... - cyberdash, on 07/07/2008, -0/+7A time lapse is the only appropriate way to draw Hiro Nakamura.
- Amadeus2490, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2So basically, this is a really, really old-fashioned printer/copier.
- TecK415, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1He worked at ILM with my dad.. Then had a small role on Scrubs, and now he's one of the stars on Heroes. Pretty crazy.

- JeremyGiberson, on 07/07/2008, -2/+1Wow, that is pointless. I can accomplish the same time with 10 seconds and a xerox machine.
- Qiler, on 07/07/2008, -2/+0"Speed Drawing"? It took few days to finish....
- sysop073, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3It took 6 hours. Close though
- dbsmoker, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Very nice! It may not be a speed drawing, but it's really good nonetheless. I've sketched Hiro with a Wacom tablet and it took me probably twice as long to do. Not to mention it still doesn't look as good as his either. Great work.

- mohsenxp, on 07/07/2008, -1/+0I know it sounds gay but ever since I was a kid my 'superhero' wish has been to have the ability to draw like this guy! I think its one of the coolest things in the world. I suck at drawing so watching these videos, as amazing as they are, always end up making me feel ***** about my lack of skill. :( :(
The dude's incredible though. - asteron, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4Is photo-realistic copying of photos you have in your hand really all that great of a skill?
Sure in the age before copy machines it may have been useful but it seems pointless with today's technology. I would be more impressed if the artist added something in the way of emotion or aesthetic.
I admit that he is good and I couldn't do what he's doing but this skill seems mechanical and empty.. like spelling bees. - mockupscaledown, on 07/07/2008, -0/+5I actually scrolled down and read the YouTube comments. Good lord, Idiocracy is looking more like a prophecy than a movie at this point. I feel ill.
- nibble4bits, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Bured as inaccurate. It's not speed drawing, it's time lapsed.
- Fantom05, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Maybe I'm breaking balls, but there's just something not right about the lower right part of Hiro's face......looks a bit lopsided.
But then again, I'm a big *****.... -
