This is why it's creepy beyond anything humanity has ever witnessed. - Barackalypse, on 01/18/2009, -5/+16Why is the spirit of change residing in the body of a guy who voted for half the bad crap Bush did? (Patriot Act re-authorization, FISA with telcom immunity, the $700 billion bailout, and all those Iraq War authorizations that never had withdrawl dates in them)
- BuryBrigade08, on 01/18/2009, -2/+12The people worship the man like a God. Its disturbing.
- ZeroDarkness, on 01/18/2009, -2/+10Ok, I voted for Obama and hope he'll do a good job... BUT, how about we wait till he's actually made changes before calling him the "spirit of change"? He should be the "spirit of change" by not being just another corporate puppet. Being black doesn't make him the "spirit of change", and that's all he's accomplished so far for his presidency (the whole "Not being president yet" thing might possibly be affecting that.)
... I seriously hope he's at LEAST half as good as his hardcore supporters expect. - inactive, on 01/18/2009, -2/+10Maybe if he murders a bunch of people...
- MoisturePoints, on 01/18/2009, -2/+9No kidding. When your physical being is transcended by an elected official who can read a teleprompter like a pro...
we've got serious ***** problems. - Ericdigital, on 01/18/2009, -3/+9I'm so sick of this change ***** .
- inactive, on 01/18/2009, -0/+6Let's just remember what promises he did and didn't keep when he's up for re-election.
- spookyttws, on 01/18/2009, -0/+6As much as I'm excited about Obama's presidency (and I do believe he's a lighthouse in a sea of rights consuming conservatism) , at this point, we may be building him up into an icon he could never be. But at the same time, I'm excited to see if he truly can lead us into a world of openness, tolerance, transparency, and restore what I believed America stood for, but was destroyed by eight years of hate, secrecy, war, spying, and general disregard for the constitution.
- temujin2012, on 01/18/2009, -0/+4There is some "graffiti" that has an incredible artistic talent thrown behind it and has been used as marketing. I guess that makes the "graffiti" just a mural, but still, there is some that people actually paint on walls that are good, not just the stereoptypical gang signature.
That being said; Jumbo Shrimp. - Bobthecow81, on 01/18/2009, -3/+7This is seriously starting to make me physically ill...he's not going to change anything...for the love of God he's from Chicago...
- sienne, on 01/18/2009, -1/+5Too many negative thoughts and predictions already. This man need to be given some time to perform. He's not even sworn in yet, for God sake!!!
- dungbeetle, on 01/18/2009, -1/+5Well in four year when we have all had our hopes dashed across the craggy rocks of high taxes and low pay, we will finally understand that no politician will ever really be for the people.
- Barackalypse, on 01/18/2009, -4/+7I doubt it, Che never sold out, didn't back down, and was defiant to the very end. Obama can't even prevent himself from voting for bills with provisions he opposes (FISA with telcom immunity).
- sgr215, on 01/18/2009, -1/+4I realize we're all healing from our worst president ever so it's easy to become ecstatic about someone else, regardless of what they do, but shouldn't we wait until Obama actually brings some sort of "change" before acting as if he's already done it? After all, politicians often make outrageous promises that are impossible to keep to get elected and there's always a possibility Obama did the same here. Remember when America was upset over a blowjob and Bush proclaimed he'd bring "Honor and integrity back to the white house"? Just look how that went.
I'm often wary of any politician who makes out-of-the-norm promises to get elected. While it'd be nice if they actually truly believed in what they are saying it becomes rather obvious they often say whatever sells and follow through with only a fraction of it to make the masses content and say "hey, at least he fixed --------". It's simply the nature of the beast.
I definitely hope Obama drowns my cynicism in real "change" though but due to the numerous actions I've already seen I do have my doubts. - radu79, on 01/18/2009, -2/+4Exactly.
I am tired of this "change" *****. In fact, his voting record is not much different at all than Hillary's voting record (or even McCain's). - xGORDOx, on 01/18/2009, -1/+3"His likeness has gone beyond who he is as a person," said painter Phil Fung. "He represents the spirit of change."
Yet he keeps appointing people you never wanted that seem like Bush Lite appointees.
Just scroll through Digg to see who he is appointing, these people are riddled with fraud and scandals and their view points are just a fraction left of the people they are replacing.
Obama is the worlds most elaborate meme.
His biggest difference from Bush is the letter next to his name, thats it.
He's keeping witetapping, guantanamo, torture (sure, it's torture lite, but why the asterisk for special occasions?), his Fed appointee is involved in tax fraud, his AG appointee is for searaching libraries and bookstores, hell, his Secretary of State has been given millions by the Saudis!!! If Obama had an (R) next to his name the media and Digg would be claiming it's Bush's third term and the continuation of fascism in America. But because he has a (D), every pretends it's different and better even though the evidence is there to refute that claim.
People can dilute their reality enough to believe anything, but the only change is the actual guy in the big chair, it's still the same office. - Pimptastic, on 01/18/2009, -0/+2it wasnt the blow job. It was the perjury he committed. And the only thing that bugged me about the blowjob was, Why the ***** couldnt he find a better looking intern? I mean JFK at least had Marilyn Monroe.
- Claverhouse, on 01/18/2009, -0/+2Great Gardener of Human Happiness.
- temujin2012, on 01/18/2009, -3/+5I think it's important that Americans and well, people everywhere maintain hope, and continue to change for the better. I hope that President Obama will actually enact the change that he's talked about.
The one thing I don't want, though, is this sense of blind hope and belief that Obama will change things for the better just because he said he would. If he doesn't follow through, or does a 180, we need to call him out on it, not just hope that things will get better.
I voted for Obama and believe that he can follow through and make this a better country, but damnit if he screws up, I'm going to be as pissed as I am at Bush. - inactive, on 01/18/2009, -1/+3Dryer lint? Really???
- kizio, on 02/10/2009, -0/+2Hm... I'd better go and sleep instead of reading THIS http://petsjournal.info
- temujin2012, on 01/18/2009, -0/+2No, that is what the second paragraph is for. I did not support those decisions and have called them out in other places. An earlier comment mentioned them, and I did not feel the need to repeat them.
Those things and any others like them cannot just be swept under the rug. He screwed up in those, without a doubt.
My fear is that people will be so blinded by their hope that they won't be able to admit that he screwed up in anything and they'll all just be blind followers... - aJayBoulder, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1It is great to see such excitement about a period of change.
That was also some very creative artwork...who knew that dryer lint was a viable medium? - MacHarborGuy, on 01/18/2009, -1/+2its this whole "hope" thing. people "hope" for change. the thing is, you don't hope for change, you "do" the change.
i, unlike you, did not vote for him. But I, unlike some people who didn't vote for him, am quite willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. He is my new President, and his actions from the moment he was elected will shape my decision to either vote for or against him in 4 years. - Sublex, on 01/18/2009, -1/+2...Banksy?
- thespice, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1all self-promoting-sarcastic-and/or-jaded-tones aside, while it's true that BO is but a man it might be how different he is from the norm that makes him so iconic. I hope at some point that people stop commodifying the "spirit of change" and let it get some work done. As for the art, it reminds me of a quote from M.Groening's School is Hell: "you do what you do quite well, but is it really worth doing?"
- Pimptastic, on 01/18/2009, -2/+3Hey, you can get whatever change you want here in Chicago. It will just cost you a little bit of cash to a re-election campaign.
- radu79, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1Or the bailout, where the rich get the money from the poor.

- MacHarborGuy, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1temujin2012: kinda like how some people are blinded by the positive direction that the US was going in the 90s that they forget/ignore the fact that Bill Clinton signed into law the DMCA?

This one is not art, it's a MIRACLE! - dailybeans, on 01/18/2009, -1/+2I find it funny how people praise Obama for changing America...and he isn't even President yet!
- kewlz, on 01/18/2009, -1/+2Everybody is an artist... psh...
- dinuguan, on 01/18/2009, -5/+5legalize awesome graffiti. if that doesn't float, legalize awesome graffiti of you.
- Barackalypse, on 01/18/2009, -3/+3So would you consider his votes to re-authorize the Patriot Act, enact the $700 billion bailout bill, and grant telcoms immunity for the warrantless wiretaps examples of how he has made this a better country?
- dandandantheman, on 01/18/2009, -1/+1That might be asking for too much... sadly...
- Lifehedge, on 01/20/2009, -1/+1Buried. Get Hussein out of the Black House.
- xGORDOx, on 01/18/2009, -1/+1Amen.
- xGORDOx, on 01/18/2009, -1/+1Who created that pedestal?
- xGORDOx, on 01/18/2009, -2/+1"(and I do believe he's a lighthouse in a sea of rights consuming conservatism)"
Yet, he's keeping all of those "rights consuming conservative" programs that the Clinton Adminstration gave the Bush Adimistration which is now giving them to the Obama Administration.
The first wiretapping bill was set in law in 1996 by that extreme right wing rights consuming President Bill Clinton.
"a lighthouse in a sea of rights consuming conservatism"
Wow, get your head out of your ass or at least turn it away from the television long enough to read some history. - Barackalypse, on 01/18/2009, -3/+2So its fantasy artwork then, because it is certainly not realism.
- radu79, on 01/18/2009, -3/+1I think his voting record as a senator is enough to see if he really is for change. And he isn't!
- Bobthecow81, on 01/18/2009, -2/+0You don't say?!?
- Barackalypse, on 01/18/2009, -3/+1Hey, at least there wasn't a Civil War and he didn't sign orders allowing tens of thousands of innocent Japanese people to be placed in internment camps, so he's better than at least Lincoln and Roosevelt.
- td34, on 01/18/2009, -7/+3i wish that i had JESSIE'S GIRLLLLLLLL
- inactive, on 01/18/2009, -6/+2"Awesome graffiti" is an oxymoron.
