...or I will Destroy You! - divinediva, on 06/05/2009, -1/+18The artistic nature of the Art.
- sexybobo, on 06/06/2009, -2/+17It would be cooler but i know those barrels are about $250 a piece. He has easily destroyed $1250 worth of cones that the tax pares are going to have to replace.
- elnerdo, on 06/06/2009, -0/+13I don't think you know quite what the word 'vandalism' means, and how it's distinct from graffiti.
Graffiti is art, definitely, and is a form of expression (Stupid or otherwise).
Vandalism is a blanket term. If I throw a cinderblock through the window of your house, that's vandalism. If I go to a museum and throw acid on everything I see, that's vandalism.
Those things are not art.
In fact, the very definition of 'vandalism' is contrary to artistic expression, unless you're a bit disturbed. Vandalism is defined by the malicious intent behind it. - Zippo, on 06/05/2009, -0/+11When I saw the thumbnail, I thought it was a Yellow Power Ranger.
- mwtapp, on 10/11/2009, -1/+11I'll do whatever that traffic officer tells me to do.
- StigNordas, on 06/05/2009, -0/+10The little one at the bottom is straight out of Ghostbusters.
- jtotheoe, on 06/06/2009, -0/+8i believe you mean "tax pears."
- LeilaniUnemori, on 06/05/2009, -0/+6I like it, the crocodile is great and the yellow monster, too. There aren't many public art projects these days, and not just for money reasons, and we should see art in our daily lives. I hope he keeps creating.
- timeshifter, on 06/06/2009, -1/+7Does being an artist give you the right to be a *****?
- bpwrinn, on 06/05/2009, -0/+6It's certainly an easy way to publicize your message.
Assuming you dodge the cops, o' course. - Foxprowl, on 06/05/2009, -0/+6These look like stills from the "GoBots" live-action movie
God, I hope Hollywood didn't hear that... - homedaddy, on 06/05/2009, -2/+7strangely no one ever really appreciated the artistic statement I was making smashing mailboxes as a teen.
- Lefts, on 06/06/2009, -0/+4Ahh man, I remember seeing one of those construction barrels on my way to class at NC State.
It was hilariously awesome, and I wanted to steal it. - glinsvad, on 06/05/2009, -2/+6Cool Gandhi quote. I try to live by that every day.
- noahgelman, on 06/06/2009, -1/+5Budget run low on Transformers 2?
- ghatid, on 06/06/2009, -0/+4Yea, why is Zach dugg so high for his incorrect understanding of the English language?
- 2of8, on 06/06/2009, -1/+5I wonder why the hell those coloured pieces of plastic cost so much. Anyone know? Also, where is that figure of $250?
- idmclaren, on 06/06/2009, -0/+4Some of the things this guy posts are pretty cool. But throwing snowballs at passing cars, and hitting an ambulance? Is he 12? Buried.
- Thorpe, on 06/06/2009, -0/+3You should come to London. It's EVERYWHERE but mainly through spray tagging. Around 100 people clean all subway trains before they go in operation everyday. If it's not cleaned, it won't go into operation. I am amazed at how people risk their lives and get in the most craziest of places just to express.
- jojowasa, on 06/05/2009, -0/+3I'm not sure what to think about this but I have to agree that it reminds me of Ghostbusters.
- inactive, on 06/06/2009, -1/+4So if I could figure out a way to make ***** orange plastic barrels a piece for a mere $100 I could make a fortune and save the city money? Awesome, where's my orange paint.
- schwab002, on 06/06/2009, -0/+3The article reads like it was written by the artist himself.
- m4vi2, on 06/06/2009, -0/+3Won't it be cool if the there are different types of art all over the place.
- BoomShake007, on 06/06/2009, -1/+4You people commenting "hurr, why plastic expensive?" have no idea what you're talking about. It's not the ***** plastic that your toys from China are made from. This plastic has to withstand the full range of weather and temperatures, withstand some impact, have the right ductility and elasticity, etc. Both R&D for such materials, as well as many of the manufacturing processes, can be time intensive and expensive.
- arlok789, on 06/05/2009, -1/+4very very cool, love the orange construction things
- Trilt, on 06/06/2009, -0/+3http://www.technicianonline.com/features/barrel-mo ...
^The student newspaper article mentioned.
I wish I had been out and about early enough to see these on campus. :C - GeekNurse, on 06/06/2009, -0/+3That would be vandalism.
- GeekNurse, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2Funny, me either... When I took a dump on the steps of that church when I was 14 I said it was art, they called me a social pariah.
- MyTakes, on 06/06/2009, -1/+3So when the economy tanks and it's tough getting anyone to commission your artwork, strongly consider vandalism art. Taxpayers have no choice but to pay to replace whatever public property you consider to be art supplies..
- Xplorer, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2I prefer Baron Von Bad Barrel... But to each his own...
- Kevinik, on 06/06/2009, -1/+3Brilliant.
- DJCraig, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2This guy's blog is incredible! NoPromiseOfSafety.com . He's a good friend of mine. I got so excited when I randomly came across this on the Digg homepage.
- PorcusWallabee, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2I'm amazed they won't run a train because of some ***** scribbling on a surface. Squares...
- inactive, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2I can see the construction company now keeping this monster and putting it pointing to the construction caution sign....
I drive through a perpetual construction area daily and people just don't pay attention to it any more....maybe this will get their attention. - dpknc84, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2Yeah, I just had to choose that day to avoid Hillsborough Street on my way into work because of all the construction. By the time I found out about it they had already removed it from the street.
New Raleigh also did a piece on this:
http://www.newraleigh.com/articles/archive/barrel- ... - 2of8, on 06/06/2009, -0/+1Is it the cars or the plastic things that don't take damage?
- wcaclimbing, on 06/06/2009, -0/+1that blog is amazing.
wow. - brownsound00, on 06/06/2009, -0/+1Banksy is both. and he's amazing
- inactive, on 06/06/2009, -0/+1I didn't read that part. I just went to see the pics.
but yah, horrible ***** guy if he did that. - ghatid, on 06/06/2009, -1/+2And then destroy it?
- GoodOldNeon, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1With all the stupid stuff going on in the world, I'm sure we have room for more than one Banksy
- BrawndoMan, on 06/09/2009, -0/+1banksy owns the stencil thing. if you're going to do that then it better be incredibly thoughtful and original. other stuff is kind of cool.
- jc7012, on 06/06/2009, -0/+1Sabatoo Tigaa!
- BrawndoMan, on 06/13/2009, -0/+1Sure. So long as it's not some stupid stencil of Gandhi.
Dude should just stick to the sculptures. - D3koy, on 06/06/2009, -0/+1What?
- PorcusWallabee, on 06/06/2009, -0/+1Go I don't recall giving it to your mom with my skull...
- sexybobo, on 06/06/2009, -1/+2You have never seen them get hit by cars going 70 mph with out taking any damage.
- whoisshe, on 06/06/2009, -1/+1No, vandalism is when it isn't your property. When you haven't payed for it and when you seek to express yourself at the cost of others. There is no "if you are talented, or if you aren't talented" get out of jail free card.
You want to express, buy a pad, get hired, buy some cones. Go nuts. -
