Are you a kind-of Christian? Great article by Greg Laurie
worldnetdaily.com — Someone once asked me, "What do you do when you come to a passage in the Bible that you don't agree with?" I said, "You change your opinion, because you are wrong."

- levibo, on 08/10/2008, -3/+8The other night I was explaining to someone why our society is in decline-we aren't using a Biblical standard anymore. "Normal standards of decency" don't mean anything because what's normal for one person is outlandish to another, etc. When we use the Bible to gauge our behavior, our society has common goals and a cohesion in our desire to please God, and not ourselves. We must continue to pray for our nation and this world, as we see the last days before God calls believers home.
- Taquoshi, on 08/10/2008, -2/+6Christians are sinners who are in the process of being sanctified by God. We will fall and we will sin, but we also will get up and with God's grace, move forward in our spiritual growth.
I found it particularly sad that the White Horse Inn broadcasted conversations at a Christian Bookseller's convention where they asked the attendees to name the Ten Commandments. Most could only name three, and adultery was the one that EVERYBODY got. Now what does that tell you?
One wit charmingly stated that he didn't know the Ten Commandments, but assured the interviewer that he "kept them all."
In the immortal words of Martha Steward, this is not "a good thing."- SlayerSyrena, on 08/10/2008, -2/+5I agree. And what some Christians don't realize is that if they break one commandment, they are guilty before God of breaking them ALL.
So that man was wrong. Like the rest of us, he's broken them all. The law was made to illustrated the fact that we NEED our Savior Jesus Christ. No one is saved through the law.- Taquoshi, on 08/10/2008, -1/+5We were astounded to hear the level of confidence in his voice when he assured the interviewer that he couldn't name them, but he sure could keep them. He had NO idea of the depth of sin we all have been in, if he was speaking honestly, and no idea of the concept of a holy God is, either. I can only pray that someday, his eyes will be opened as John Newton once so aptly put it..."I once was blind but now I see."

- THEROD54, on 08/11/2008, -1/+2Excellent post all. Just remember the law is to teach us, not hurt us. Mathew 5 : 17-20. Yes the penalty is PAYED, but here are the standards to go by .
- Evilena, on 08/11/2008, -1/+2What was Jesus' prediction regarding Peter's denial?
Before the ***** crow - Matthew 26:34
Before the ***** crow twice - Mark 14:30
Now what?
What do you do when you come to a passage in the Bible that you don't agree with because it contradicts the word of God?- lalskii, on 08/18/2008, -0/+0Evil-ena
It is the account of two different authors with different focuses. It is not a contradiction but it is the difference in the perception of two different human authors. The fact is that Peter denied Jesus thrice. Before the ***** crowed once or twice is immaterial. It is the denial that is significant here, the denial of a so called disciple and his transformation after the death and resurrection of Christ.
Focus on what Jesus has done for you. He has carried your sins upon Himself when He died. He died, was buried and He rose again to bring transformation in the lives of all those who put their trust in Him. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved!

- lalskii, on 08/18/2008, -0/+0How true and relevant! Every church needs to throw this question on its congregation. Lot of noise is heard today about Christianity but seldom find a few Christians who are serious about their faith, who hold on to the Bible and are bold enough to refuse compromising. Today's churches are filled with fake, self-centered, materialistic 'believers' who are nothing but hypocrites. They have taken their freedom too far and are reaping the consequences now. Before the Church (true believers) is raptured and the anti Christ establishes his rule a lot of deception and falling away has to happen. Time for proclamation of the Gospel and inviting people into Christ's fold is almost over. Now is the time for the churches to strengthen the true believers lest they fall away. The Lord is at hand! Let the true children of God stand up!
