In Mexico City, metal heads and punkers faced off with emos in a major traffic circle. Over a thousand riot police (granaderos) had to be called out.

    I really can't under stand what the big deal is over emos. Its not like they go around flaming like drag queens even. What is even more ironic is that in the past the rock movement pushed for social tolerance. This development is truly disturbing.

    Here is a youtube video of one of the riots in Queretaro. The attitude of the guy that was interviewed is un-nerving. "What I can't stand is that they hang out in a particular part of the plaza.......They seem more like girls than boys.".

          I used to think Linkin Park was the coolest band ever back when I was thirteen. I thought they were going to change the world, that they were futuristic. Over the years, my taste for them faded away. I never hated them, but I never cared for their music.
          Then, about two years ago, I decided to buy Filter's "Title of Record," a 1999 rock-electronic fusion album just like Linkin Park's "Hybrid Theory." If I had bought Filter's album back in '99, I would have thrown away Linkin Park. Linkin Park has boring drumming, crappy rap, and the usual guitar riffs. If you take away the electronic flair, all you get is substandard rock. Filter on the other hand, blends rock and electronic so seamlessly. They have been doing it since 1995. The singer, Jason Patrick, was from Nine Inch Nails so that's where the inspiration comes from.
          I'm sorry you still like to listen to Linkin Park. I can only hope you discover better things... -like Nine Inch Nails and Filter!

There was a fight so big at our high school that they had to have the cops come in to break it up. We were just wanting to be ourselves, and they didn't like us for that.
    Now it seems like us metalheads are the oppressors.
    Sure, I hate pop culture just as much as the next guy, but there's no reason to take it to this level. Let them have their emo, and they'll eventually grow out of it and follow another trend.

Pitting them in a confrontation against metalheads is a completely different scenario than heads vs. jocks or punks. It's less of a battle and more of a victimization.

Anyhow, I agree this is definitely a victimization of kids who want to look and act a certain way that a lot of other people don't like. I can take a good joke (back when I was younger, all the jokes were pointed at us), and I'm sure they can too, but once violence comes into the picture, it's just wrong.

They find something that has a mild following, and oversaturate the market. Kids just want to be popular and fit in (at least most of them do), so they follow whatever trend there is. Bands tend to do the same...they follow the money.

        We have to get out of this mindset that "Our music is better than yours! I'll prove it to you by beating you up!", and realizing that it's just a different choice. Some people wear sneakers, others wear sandals. It's not that big a deal. Don't hate someone because they're different than you.

        From your quote, you seem like you're pretty young and have never experienced what this type of stuff does to people. You've never been (for lack of a better term) musically repressed. Leave the Emo kids alone. Be smart for once.

          Are you a Slayer fan? If so, some of their fans cut themselves. One fan did this, and got his arms put on one of their albums (which rocked by the way). But, to me, that guy is a douche. Would I start a fight with him? No. Why? What good would it do me? How would it improve my life to berate someone who does something that I don't agree with?

          These are things you should think about.

          I'm no fan of Emo by any stretch, and I do understand about them being whiny about no real problems. Hell, fans of the Cure have been doing the same for almost 20 years. But, you know what? What effect does it have on MY life? None. So, let them be stupid, or let them be attention seekers (which is what this whole "depressed" thing is as a part of being Emo). If anyone was serious about killing themselves, they'd do it. Cutting yourself just slightly on the skin is stupid, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

          Beating them up only legitimatizes their depression and need for attention.

          Oh, and by the way, my comment about the record companies deals with how big the emo scene has gotten. It wouldn't get big at all if it wasn't pushed by the record companies. THEY dictate what most teens will get into. It's not a choice that kids make without trying to fit in.
