- passedoutghost, on 01/22/2009, -0/+4Is she the madame or one of the workers?
- Mysticcal, on 01/22/2009, -2/+5My ancestry... or.. elders from Ireland (mid) once had a castle. while it wasn't the largest of castles. it was a respectable size. When we went on a family vacation there when I was a child. It had turned into a pub..
Guess that's the way it goes. - edwartica, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3Yeah, democracy, philosophy, literature, architecture; till now, it seems like the ancient greeks contributed nothing to the rest of the world.
- malignatius, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3Tonight were gonna party like it's 999 BC!
- Leviathan433, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3Can't it be both?
- davidg11, on 01/22/2009, -1/+4So that's where the term porn comes from...it's a greek word.

"Hints to distinguishing a porneia, or brothel, from an ordinary house... " - Commonwealth, on 01/22/2009, -1/+3Really? I heard AmyVernon has a tiger pit concealed outside of her front door so she can trap innocent children and postal workers and relish their inevitable demise.
- whoreable, on 01/22/2009, -0/+2I too substitute my home for a pub or brothel, so I am really getting a kick out of these replies.
- hardcorestar, on 01/22/2009, -0/+2Fun Fact: We obtained the principles of democracy from the ancient Greeks, who also knew how to have a fun time
- inactive, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1lol what happened if this Greek was a cup collector?
- jcsoc, on 01/22/2009, -1/+2I thought that's what made a home?
- lordmike, on 01/22/2009, -1/+2Sounds like my college dorm.
- shaherazad, on 01/22/2009, -1/+2Isn't this true for any person who drinks or has sex with strange women in their house?
- dawngordon, on 09/27/2009, -0/+1the brothels really did not surprise me that much, it has been proven in Greek documentation the sexuality they practiced
- inactive, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1Its like the ancient version of the "man caves" except instead of beer and sports, its beer and women.
- edwartica, on 01/22/2009, -1/+2Yet another reason to love the ancient greeks. Sure they were ***** to foreigners (don't speak that language, you might as well be saying Bar bar Bar), but damn!
- Lumbre619, on 01/22/2009, -0/+12 greeks 1 cup?
- Leviathan433, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1How do you separate the the Greek men from the Greek boys?
- passedoutghost, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1Perhaps. But maybe it would have been something more innocent like the home of a merchant who used his rooms as storage?
In any case, the archaeologists should ask the historians for any reference of homes being used as brothels or pubs made in Greek plays and such. I did a course last year on the Oikos (household) and Polis of Greece and while I didn't even come close to reading all of the works by the Greek writers, I didn't even see scant mention of a house being used as anything other than a house. - Leviathan433, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1The first one sank into the swamp.
- korvan504521, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1when they're not burning them down.
- Leviathan433, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1are those the only two options?
- MRintheKeys, on 01/22/2009, -0/+0Why can't we have all three or is that just when you reach Mantopia?
- TevinC, on 01/22/2009, -0/+0I know a lot of people who live upstairs from their business (like a deli or restaurant). This really isn't that shocking...
- MRintheKeys, on 01/22/2009, -0/+0Athenian or Spartan?
- schicky64, on 04/08/2009, -0/+0Gotta love the Greeks!
