Who are they going after with their gross print and billboard ads? Who do they expect to wear these clothes? I live in Williamsburg and I never even see people wearing these weird leotard things that they advertise the hell out of. Do they just sell enough bulk T-shirt orders to support a money-losing retail operation to see what the silliest thing they can sell is?

Companies such as Hanes can make stuff much less expensive because two dozen people get screwed over with every shirt they make... You get a good deal because others are getting shafted.

          Every industry that has unions has squabbles with it's unions. Comparing American Apparel factories to Sweatshops is an insult to those who actually work in sweatshops. The article you linked says nothing new, though it is strange that they would take a Polaroid of an applicant. There is nothing in that article that hints that American Apparel is involved in major social injustices remotely close to the level of foreign sweatshops.
          I really don't care if people take offense to their advertising. Their ads are intentional, and they give the exact image that the company wants. If they wanted to be more tree huggerish, they'd have Patagonia's image.
          What is funny about Digg... Even though the link you provided comes from a sensationalist site, and sexual harassment it claims is a different issue than sweatshops (Non Sequitur), and American Apparel factories are not even remotely similar to sweatshop conditions, I will still be buried since I am -1 and you will still be dugg since you are +4.

AA is one of the few places where a lean person can buy a form-fitting shirt that doesn't have sleeves that are four inches too short. If AA doesn't fit, try shopping at ANY OTHER STORE IN THE WORLD.

    now OTOH, those girls doing the story seem like the kind that would chastise you for objectifying their bodies. and then they do a story about how a certain brand of clothing makes their bodies, objectively, appear less appealing. i think they're just haters. which is fine. i am a hateful man, too. but if i said so to either of those girls, they would NEVER let me get within 15 feet of their naughties.

        This is the type of response that seems intelligent but it's not.
        1) Why would you challenge someone to go and try on a suspender swimsuit? First, anyone who willingly seeks this type of clothes knows what they're getting into. So don't spin it like someone walking into a GAP tries on jeans and *poof* it becomes a swimsuit. It's called choice, last I checked since you're able to type - you have full use of your eyes. So my suggestion is to use your eyes when choosing clothes.
        2) Like many people already said, if you don't like it, don't buy it.
        3) It's not the clothes that males you look fat, it's the fat that makes you look fat. It's like blaming the inventor of the spoon because your ass is too fat. Stop passing blame and hit a tread mill.

          Other people are saying these girls look bad. But everyone would look bad in those pieces. Hence the original article: why make clothes that are so across the board bad? So before people go ahead and post that AA's clothes are wonderful and look great on them (and when people are posting this they are talking about the t-shirts, which I agree are great. I own quite a few.), they should see how THEY look in those same pieces. I went with a group of friends who ranged from size 0 to size 10 who tried on those monstrosities for Halloween costumes, and they ALL cringed.

When my friends all wanted to dress like the Eric Prydz "Call On Me" video girls, everyone immediately thought "AMERICAN APPAREL!" But, years earlier in college, I didn't know they made real clothes until a hipster friend told me that's where he got his jackets.

          And unless you're some clueless guy or a woman trying to fool herself, you should totally know that the fit of clothes can make someone look bad.

          Exactly. I don't know why everyone here is harping on these girls calling them fat when it's obvious that the clothes that they're trying on are simply hideous. I'm pretty sure most of these diggers don't have supermodel girlfriends who'd look remotely decent in one of those ridiculously ugly neon lame swimsuits. I actually bought a pair of their bronze lame booty shorts for Halloween as a hooker.

Some of my friends go to big and tall stores to find their clothing. I don't get offended that they are taller than me, they don't get offended that i'm smaller than them. It's our body type.

      Are these women offended that there's a store that sells shirts that fit me and don't make me look like an ass? What did I ever do to them?
