- Disco1Stu, on 08/06/2008, -3/+37Wow, I can't wait to get older. Life sucks.
- xsquirrel378x, on 08/07/2008, -3/+1probably the best first comment ever XD
- handheldchimp, on 08/07/2008, -3/+2So...you can't wait for life to suck?
- Frogee, on 08/07/2008, -0/+0Wow, ever heard of sarcasm?
- Cwo655321, on 08/07/2008, -0/+0@frogee
no. what is it? - MrOmniscient, on 08/07/2008, -0/+0"Oh, ho, ho, irony! Oh, no, no, we don't get that here. See, uh, people ski topless here while smoking dope, so irony's not really a, a high priority. We haven't had any irony here since about, uh, '83, when I was the only practitioner of it. And I stopped because I was tired of being stared at."

- perfectlyfrank, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3Today's my 25th birthday... and I'm on Digg. Alone.. it's like staring into the future/present.
You can't tell, but the old lady in the wheelchair is crouched over an iphone.- Cwo655321, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1and she just made your comment in her diaper.
- Dante2005, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1Get out Girl, get out into the world. Digg does not own your soul yet.
It...its too late for me now.
Happy birthday by the way. - eddie11228, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1happy birthday
- phenom2k7, on 08/07/2008, -0/+125 / m / alone,
wanna go out for an e-meal some time? - LeonHRodriguez, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1You're a 25 year old, attractive (if that's a real photo) girl from California, yet you're still alone?
To be perfectly frank, I think you need to kick your game up, perfectlyfrank.
- Iztikeit, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1Being old is like being a river as opposed to a stream.

- chizzlechest420, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1confucius say...you are a douche
- fatrandy13, on 08/07/2008, -2/+2that's the future if obama wins (and continues to REFUSE social security privatization).
- makeitloud, on 08/07/2008, -2/+2oh, please.
- fatrandy13, on 08/07/2008, -1/+2@makeitloud
oh please what? you simply saw something negative about obama (really isn't even negative, he is actually against the privatization of social security) and dugg me down..
you clown, if you're going to reply back, argue with me! - RobotBuddha, on 08/07/2008, -3/+1That's the future if you're an american. Sorry, there's nothing you can do about it. Look at the generation below you. Think they're going to save your ass when you're old? Democrat or republican, this society thinks old people are rubbish. That's not going to change.
- makeitloud, on 08/07/2008, -2/+1@fatrandy13 ... Argue with you why? Do you think you might actually change your mind and decide that privatizing social security is a bad idea based on what some anonymous jackass says in the comments section on Digg? Didn't think so. I wouldn't, either. In fact, I'd love it if you could show me one thread in the comments on a site like this that ever actually changed anybody's mind about anything. And by the way, I dugg you down because you tossed a libertarian water balloon into the comments about a picture of an old lady in a wheelchair, not because you said something mean about Obama (like I could give a s---).
- AYork, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1In contrast, I was at the gym yesterday. I struck up a conversation with a 76 year old man who was working with the free weights. He runs daily. He hits the gym 3 times a week (Grins, "For the scenery"). Just got back from South America a few weeks ago ("It's winter down there, you know. I hate the heat"). He's in a tango club that meets at a local coffee house. He spends three weeks every season on the coast, fishing. The university is pushing him towards retirement, "...but I'm gonna see if I can squeeze a few more bucks out of 'em first. At least let me keep my gym membership here. The Y is full of old people."
That's what I wanna be when I grow up.- bintangfolife, on 08/07/2008, -1/+1Every old person at my gym is a pussy. Don't even work up a sweat. All 2-plate guys.
- feignNU, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1amen AYork.
- xEn1gma, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1Every old guy at my gym sits at the damn machines forever and will pump that crazy set of 4 every 10 minutes.
They should make a gym for old people where it is mandatory to wear diapers.
They all smell like *****.
- tg989, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1they see me rollin ... they hatin' ...
- Nosferotu, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1This made me laugh out loud.
- fgsfdsfgsfds, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1***** you, two of my friends died getting older.
- jspec1594, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1dude u can steal stuff and people cant tell you to stop... hahah its a nick swardson skit
- xero69, on 08/06/2008, -2/+26Should we take better care of ourselves so we don't end up in a motorized chair later in life? Or should we party like rockstars so we end up dying before we get too old and our bodies start to fall apart?
Photo reminds me that I need to call the grandparents.- eyefork2, on 08/07/2008, -1/+6I'm Dr. Rockso the rock 'n roll clown! I do cocaine!
- jayobear, on 08/07/2008, -0/+5Kinda depressing but I would actually prefer to party like a rockstar.
Unfortunately life doesn't work that way all the time and often "the good" die young while douchebags will outlive us all.- socalslaker, on 08/07/2008, -2/+1So are you saying the old lady is a douchebag cause she is REALLY old?
- NCecil, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2As a 3rd option, you could do like me, and hope that by the time I'm that age, cybernetics will be a reality and I can just go in to the shop for an oil change on my sexy robot legs.
- aphexcoil, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Better care of yourself? Look closely at the woman -- she has no legs at all! She has probably been in a wheelchair for most of her life.
- zeromous, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Or she lost them to diabetes recently....
- zeromous, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Or she lost them to diabetes recently....
- Osmose1000, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1Photo reminds me that I need to pray to mine.
- Disease, on 08/07/2008, -1/+2Party hard.
- Conramic, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Just planned dinner arrangements with my grandparents, who are each over 90 years young.
Funny thing is that they still party like rock stars... Go Grandma! - cipher121, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Party like a rockstar.
But remember those kegel exercises.
- MattFromSeattle, on 08/06/2008, -3/+37Could also have been shot with lots of color and titled, "Independence" It's all in how it's presented. Great photo though!
- liberalelite, on 10/28/2008, -1/+3I tried it with that title and that just doesn't look like independence, or anything good for that matter
- jayobear, on 08/07/2008, -1/+2Perfect example of how color can affect the food of a photo. Difference between night and day.
- eyefork2, on 08/07/2008, -1/+3"It's all in how it's presented"
Stating the obvious?- scojerroc, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2stating the obvious, maybe, but sometimes it helps. Matt makes a good point.
- faatbuddha, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3...That's Art!
- new2u, on 08/06/2008, -1/+21really great photo. I find it to be haunting.
- MrGuvnor, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Really mediocre photo. I find it contrived and exploitative.
"C'mon Granny! Let me roll ya over by that gnarled tree, it'll be like you're forgotten and abandoned. No, shut up. We'll go back inside once I get this picture. Okay, great. Got it. Now, which filter is more depressing the green or the blue? Photoshop here I come! You can wheel yourself back in, right? See ya at Christmas! 'K thanks, bye!" - codeblue315, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1I get what you're saying new2u, I found it very haunting as well. I think the color scheme and lighting creates that dark, depressed feeling around it. Or maybe I'm just an artsy guy with too much free time to think about ***** like this, your call, lol.
- donttaseme, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1This photo needs more fire stickers. Fire stickers makes your transport go faster. Leave your friends in the dust.
- megamod, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2whatta ya mean? the dead old tree is there to keep her comany.
- MrGuvnor, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Really mediocre photo. I find it contrived and exploitative.
- endoccupation, on 08/06/2008, -1/+17beautiful. depressing. i'm going to go now and call my ma.
- Archon810, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2don't need to bother, I'm already keeping her company - call someone else.
- basye, on 08/07/2008, -2/+15Love how the tree is juxtaposed to the woman--it really makes a statement about the seasons of life.
- diskit, on 08/07/2008, -1/+2Yeah, it's not like it just happened to be there when the photo was taken.
- migatikon, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2It's obvious the photographer thought this portrait through. This is not the work of a One-Shot-wielding hobbyist. Odds are you would have a very tough time producing a photo of comparable quality.
- diskit, on 08/07/2008, -1/+2Yeah, it's not like it just happened to be there when the photo was taken.
- sophiescholl, on 08/07/2008, -1/+5Artistry of this photo aside, hopefully she's motoring over to her boy (or girl) friend's.
- jayobear, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3Whenever I feel guilty for not being with my grandparents at their age, I'm put at ease by the fact that they're in tight knit old people "gangs" that do pretty much everything together.
- duddy, on 08/07/2008, -2/+14Baby boomers are in their late 50's or early 60's. Not 101.
Wonderful portrait though!- Toddd, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1Ditto.
Minus the wonderful portrait part, though. - Niightwitch, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2That was the joke.
- Toddd, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1Ditto.
- num3thod, on 08/07/2008, -6/+9And so I'm ronery

- Anorhc, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1Wow. That wasn't racist in the slightest.
- GlitchEnzo, on 08/07/2008, -0/+4Watch Team America.
- Dante369, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1....That was relevant. (sarcasm, btw)
- Jacksc, on 08/07/2008, -3/+1okay, what the *****?
- briguymaine, on 08/07/2008, -0/+4I'll give you props, that was awesome and completely unexpected! nice job.

- MrM4nager, on 08/07/2008, -1/+19And....now I'm depressed
- N0153T4NK, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Ditto. It's the same terrible feeling I get seeing Harry's mother in Requiem for a Dream.
- aparatoc, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2reminds me of what my dad's going thru..thanks alot digg.. and I come here to laugh.
- GoingToShibuya, on 08/07/2008, -1/+4Deep

- carlnewton, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1I don't think so, it's just simply cropped to make her look lonely.
- digitalvibe, on 08/07/2008, -1/+4This photo is very chilling!
- Fuxsit, on 08/07/2008, -1/+4shes passed the threshold of fertility (the tree) and is now headed towards the unknown
thats how I see it - OfNumbers, on 08/07/2008, -2/+2Yeah, it's cool these days to relabel things that are clearly being misconstrued. I think it was meant to strike a different reaction based on its real label.
- FasmTrout, on 08/07/2008, -2/+2To avoid this we must remain resolute and resourceful in this atmosphere of extreme pessimism.
- eraofk00l, on 08/07/2008, -2/+8Timmy?
- MrTito, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1Tammy!
- daviejer, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1I just burst out laughing at that. I'm going teh hell (hopefully in one of those sweet old buggies)
- mayra1201, on 08/07/2008, -8/+3It's a bit depressing and scary at the same time. This lady is so vulnerable and yet so brave to go out into the world.
- xsquirrel378x, on 08/07/2008, -0/+6Was that sarcastic pretension or were you actually serious? I havent yet decided if I can digg or bury your comment.
- LeviTheSmith, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2With the new Digg comment system - You can do both!

"Here I am, brain the size of a planet and...oh nevermind..." - bsteer, on 08/07/2008, -3/+2I felt like crying after this one...
I know I'd want someone power chair-ing right down the sidewalk with me. - twertyto, on 08/07/2008, -3/+2I'm alone and this is very comforting...ironic.

- XMike14x, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2And here we see a perfectly great example of ADD. I wonder what our generation is going towards...
- Galaxylander, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1No see, ADD is a lot less frequent then we seem to think it is. I think the disease most of us have is "I'm a dumbass that doesn't want to pay attention-itis."
That seems like the more logical thing.
- Galaxylander, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1No see, ADD is a lot less frequent then we seem to think it is. I think the disease most of us have is "I'm a dumbass that doesn't want to pay attention-itis."

- Andrewbot, on 08/07/2008, -0/+5From the words of father (turning 55 next week): "Don't get old!"
- Puppetfunk, on 08/07/2008, -2/+2Jesus how old are you 14? My dad's 68.
- Andrewbot, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2I'm 18, my parents got married at 24( both of them same age), had my sister at age 34, me at age 36.

- MasterGrief, on 08/07/2008, -0/+7I've never seen something this depressing on the front page of digg.
- teddyrux, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1You must be new...And for being the master of grief, that's a strange thing to say.
- MasterGrief, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1I've been here for a pretty long time now.. two years, anyway.
"MasterGrief" was never as obvious as it seemed. MasterGrief came from a tendency to complain while playing Halo PC--you'd complain too if you had to deal with lag as often as you did there--and the name's been with me since.
- MasterGrief, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1I've been here for a pretty long time now.. two years, anyway.
- Niightwitch, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1It's not depressing...it was a joke... someone obviously really up in age and the pic was labeled "baby boomer". I'm a baby boomer and I laughed.
- teddyrux, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1You must be new...And for being the master of grief, that's a strange thing to say.
- f4nt0m4s, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2This is depressing. Someone needs to post an enlightening photo that shows old age as a happy thing...like those 70 year old guys who walk around naked at the YMCA. Those guys are living it up.

- atbnet, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1It's even better when you hit up the rec center only to see your professor strutting his stuff around the locker room. I don't know why old men love to do this.
- goodolboykt, on 08/07/2008, -2/+1I'm gonna keep on partying so I don't live that long 60 yrs is good for me
- flare1028us, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Nice to see that there's some ambition out there.
- mearom, on 08/07/2008, -2/+2I'd hit it
- FunkyNuts, on 08/07/2008, -0/+8Reminds me of this email forward....and the variations of it: Living Life Backwards
1. You should start out dead, get it out of the way.
You wake up in a retirement home, feeling better every day.
2. You get kicked out for being too healthy, then go collect your
pension, and when you start work you get a gold watch on your first day.
3 You work 40 years until you’re young enough to enjoy your retirement.
You drink alcohol, you party, you’re generally promiscuous (hey, you’ve only
got a few years left, what’s the big deal? and you get ready for High
School.
4. Then you go to primary school, you become a kid, you play, you
have no responsibilities,
5. And, finally, you become a baby, with lots of attention and everyone
fussing over you and waiting on you hand and foot.
6. The last step, you spend your last 9 months floating peacefully with
luxuries like central heating, spa, room service on tap,
larger quarters everyday, and then?.
You finish off as an… orgasm!
Tell me what could be better than that??- f4nt0m4s, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3That's George Carlin...a very wise man, indeed. We should all admire his outlook on life, he had a sense of humor and wasn't bitter.
R.I.P. - tchonka, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1George Carlin came up with that...

- charm803, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3I'm going to take advantage of my old age and act all senile.
When I don't feel like seeing my bratty grandkids I'll pretend I don't know them.
Then I'll go up to random people and pretend I know them and tell them stories Grandpa Simpson style.
"Anyway, about my washtub. I’d just used it that morning to wash my turkey, which in those days was known as... a walking bird. We'd always have walking bird on Thanksgiving with all the trimmings: cranberries, injun eyes, yams stuffed with gunpowder. Then we'd all watch football, which in those days was called "baseball"..." - lestyoubejudged, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Sad :(

- diskit, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1Lol, it's like 1 in the morning where I am.
- zephc, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Tomorrow, when you get a chance, call your parents and grandparents and tell them you love them.
- Qtip42, on 08/07/2008, -1/+1Dying young, best way to go. I would rather live it up best I can than live to be completely incapable of getting around without help. And in my case I'd be the last one to go.
- Lucifugerising, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1That might be one of the most depressing images Iv'e ever seen.
- ZMann, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1If this is a representation of Baby Boomers, shouldn't there be tons of them? You know, since the Baby Boom is the reason that a massive amount of our population is about to retire and wreck Social Security?

- MoistVonLipwig, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1So, no demotivational poster yet?
- ridingtime, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1Aww man-that is a powerful and really sad picture.
- acliffhang3r, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Oh dear Lord! Here come the surrealists and pretentious, latte-sipping, pseudo-artistic ***** with their self-congratulatory ass pats. "Fantastica!!" and "the working on so many levels" (of stupidity, I suppose) crap. Comments like that make me wish that old lady would run over these morons' obviously malformed heads repeatedly, with her mobile wheelchair and top it off by taking a nice, warm. liquid dump on their idiot selves as they struggle to find artistic meaning to the ownage that was just handed out to them.
/end rant- Delvis, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1Shut up. It's a nice picture, some people like to think about nice things rather than think about how nice things suck.
/telling you to shut up - ColorBlind, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1I agree on some level. If you look past the fluff you'll see a trail that leads to the rough times we're heading towards today and a country full of people screwing their government and vis-versa.
how many people do you know who pay their taxes in full? How do you expect the government to take care of the elderly and homeless when you dont support them?
Just something to think about...nothing in life is free.

- Dante2005, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1Oh my I appear to have hit the Emo section of Digg.
Its a sad but beautiful photo. - TaniaZL, on 08/07/2008, -1/+1This picture tells a story more than words can explain.
- TheSwashbuckler, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1That's so sad...
- iyatoni, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1I don't get what's so sad about this.
I see a woman who, if she'd been that old fifty years ago would probably be dead already. But rather she's maintaining some kind of independence and mobility thanks to modern technology, and what must be a resilient spirit.
Plus, that picture's SO cropped. She's probably participating in some kind of older-people's olympics, and the only reason she's on her own is because she's whizzed ahead of the pack. :-)
(Am I right in thinking that she looks like she doesn't have any legs?) -
