- sidianmsjones, on 10/24/2008, -0/+11I think of Dune, Melange, and Sandworms
- inactive, on 10/24/2008, -2/+11Nice Far Cry 2 screenshot!
- martynda, on 10/24/2008, -1/+9It proves a good photographer.
- inactive, on 10/24/2008, -1/+9You will not survive these lands, friend
- BillyB, on 10/24/2008, -1/+8This is what I was hoping for when I moved to Arizona. I got some decent photos that year, but nothing like this. The photographer has a really great train crossing at a dirt road in the desert shot in his/her Flickr page too.
- WhoDoneIt, on 10/24/2008, -0/+5Wrong!
HDR cannot get you photos like this. Patience, skill and timing gets you photos like this. Learning HDR will help your post processing and dynamic range in photos but it doesn't make your ***** photos great. - inactive, on 10/24/2008, -1/+6It's nice, but slightly lacking in wow.
/$0.02 - Schrum, on 10/24/2008, -2/+6Dugg for being beautiful.
- oda1, on 10/24/2008, -0/+4This picture reminds me of the time I put on my first pair of glasses. I looked around, and thought "Wow, the world has such good graphics"
- Rockkybox, on 10/24/2008, -0/+4I love your kooky brand of dark comedy, you just left out the comedy.

- assbeard, on 10/24/2008, -0/+4Yes, I too thought of this Desert Storm when I saw that
- inactive, on 10/24/2008, -1/+4...then the temperature drops to biting cold.
- tconnect80, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3Dugg for also being breathtaking
- bicyclethief, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3No Country For Old Men 2: The Reckoning.
- Quaterni0n, on 10/24/2008, -2/+5Which are you?
1. Comedian.
2. Idiot.
3. Both. - inactive, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3I live in Arizona (Benson), and I am able to grab photos like this practically every day during the Mexican Monsoon season. Arizona has some incredible thunderstorm and lightning shows during that time, and the Tucson and Benson areas are actually some of the best places in the world for lightning photography, due to the good backdrops such as the San Pedro Valley, and the Rincon / Catalina mountain ranges.
- GawtMilk, on 10/25/2008, -0/+2Hey, just noticed that this photo doesn't look very processed. For those of you who want more of a "wallpaper" look, I uploaded a 1900x1200 version.
http://flickr.com/photos/charlesviper/2970840748/s ... - digichii, on 10/24/2008, -0/+2I’m positive it’s in California because I’m pretty sure I know where this is at. Also, the photographer is from California.
- fnaqzna, on 10/25/2008, -0/+2Is it wrong to digg my own picture?
- KibblesnBitts, on 10/24/2008, -1/+3Wallpapered
- fitzal77, on 10/27/2008, -0/+2Okay, WhoDoneIt, Learning the entire scope of everything that goes into HDR photography and acquiring the requisite skills has absolutely nothing to do with producing an HDR photo like this. I stand corrected.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_dynamic_range_im ... - raulsantos307, on 10/24/2008, -0/+2It's off of 395; I live in Ridgecrest, CA, which is right by where this photo was taken. I can see the mountains in this photo from where I am right now...
- fnaqzna, on 10/25/2008, -0/+2It's a good edit. I think I like it better than my original.
- aolshove, on 10/24/2008, -0/+2Yeah, nice from a disconnected perspective but when you see one coming at you, you're thinking something more like, "Oh *****!!"
- codx999, on 10/24/2008, -0/+2It's kinda ironic that the photographer's first name is Sandy.
- sanman, on 10/24/2008, -0/+2I'm thinking Terminator-IV, and right away a metal leg stomps down, crushing the rocks, which are actually dirt-covered skulls.
- whirlingderv, on 10/24/2008, -0/+2coincidental, not ironic.
- cl2yp71c, on 10/24/2008, -0/+2You need a better PC.
- fnaqzna, on 10/25/2008, -0/+2Exactly correct. That's where I took the picture.
- phbohn2, on 10/24/2008, -0/+2looks like one of the nin ghosts wallpapers
- djAnakin, on 10/24/2008, -0/+2Holy *****! That's Sandy's picture! I totally know the guy who took this picture. Picture was taken right outside of town... Ridgecrest, CA. I can't believe he made front page. Very cool!
- florin, on 10/24/2008, -0/+2Perfect for Ubuntu's default theme.
- desertDenizen, on 10/24/2008, -1/+2Ah, the Monsoon. You can almost smell the sweet, damp creosote on the air when you look at this beautiful pic.
I grew up in AZ. Have lived all over, but I always try to get home during the summer rains to witness the majesty of 6-8 separate thunderheads sweeping across the horizon, and that weird, cinematic sideways golden afternoon light. You Arizonans know what I'm talking about. - thellamafarm, on 10/24/2008, -0/+1future mars landscape
- Chicken001, on 11/02/2008, -0/+1But can it run Crysis?
- tyzent, on 10/25/2008, -0/+1completely changes the color in the sky. i think that is more important that the 'processed' ground.
- djAnakin, on 10/27/2008, -0/+1What? This picture totally isn't even Dubai.. It's outside Ridgecrest CA. I know because I can almost see my house from the pic.
- BigBrianH, on 10/25/2008, -0/+1Wow..Pretty cool photo...
I REALLY wish i knew enough about digital photography to rip someone elses accomplishments.
Then i could feel more manly about myself.
Instead...i'll just say....Wow...Pretty cool photo. - fnaqzna, on 10/27/2008, -0/+1Yes, it's real. I would have got more, but the lightning scared me off the hilltop. :)
- cl2yp71c, on 10/24/2008, -0/+1Yeah, I'm going to go play Far Cry 2 now.
...and set ***** on fire. - xXGOODnessXx, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1is it real? its like amazing
- fallingdamage, on 10/24/2008, -0/+1~conceptual image of mars after terraforming.
- fnaqzna, on 10/25/2008, -0/+1It also helps to get lucky. :)
- WallaceFreeman, on 10/24/2008, -0/+1fake as your mother's love
- djAnakin, on 10/27/2008, -0/+1Ah.. got it.
