( Digg explodes ) - Optiks, on 08/19/2008, -6/+71Man, this list makes me feel up there - especially since I've had to go back to school and finish my degree.
A few weeks ago my wife and I were talking with a buddy of mine from one of my classes about the United States' space program and NASA, and the Challenger disaster came up. My wife and I reminisced, remembering exactly where we were and what we were each doing when the news broke; how the rest of the day dragged on and the overall mood of everyone around. Both of us were in our early teens then.
My buddy says, "Yeah, I read about that once." Ouch. Right to the gut. - sandersdamnit, on 08/20/2008, -14/+72RE: FW:FW:FW:FW:FW:FW:FW:FW:FW:FW :60 Things Incoming Freshman Have Always/Never Known

Now imagine that listed 60 times, and you have this article. - burstaneurysm, on 08/20/2008, -1/+22With Freddy's Dead in 1991, New Nightmare in 1994 and Freddy Vs. Jason in 2003; I'd say he's still around.
- WMGoBuffs, on 08/20/2008, -0/+20Twenty-five suddenly feels old. I have to teach these kids.
- displacednomad, on 08/20/2008, -1/+21In two years, this list will include: The World Wide Web has always been there to bring them fresh Hot Bot search results.
- jggube, on 08/19/2008, -4/+24This brings me back to my freshman experience in college. Nothing's quite like it.

There are some really great books on this tracker you should check it out even if your not a student. - Zipko, on 08/20/2008, -0/+16That article's really gotten around for only being written yesterday.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 08/20/2008, -0/+16Tell him to get off your lawn!
- gles, on 08/20/2008, -4/+20IBM has never made typewriters. -- I remember typing my term papers for high school while watching Beverly Hills 901210. And now that's coming back... I'm suffering from an odd mix of nostalgia and deja vu now. :)
- electricwaffles, on 08/19/2008, -6/+21how to get laid
- ap1983, on 08/20/2008, -1/+15So true, my niece who is seventeen began her first year in college this fall. I'm like, 'why are we in college together?'
- ZackScott, on 08/20/2008, -2/+16Also, these people were not lucky enough to grow up in the 80s when cartoons were first made specifically to sell toys. He-Man. Ninja Turtles. What do these guys have, Power Rangers?
- Zipko, on 08/20/2008, -1/+15You know you're allowed to quit ***** jobs to go find a new ***** job right?

- wedges, on 08/20/2008, -0/+11Twenty-Four suddenly feels old. I teach two college-level CS3 workshops filled with students only a couple of years younger than I am.

- Gryffydd, on 08/20/2008, -3/+13"11. All have had a relative — or known about a friend's relative — who died comfortably at home with hospice."
Um...what? This was where I stopped reading this list....Seriously, what the hell? - jmnugent, on 08/20/2008, -0/+10Thats exactly the point.
(this list is put together to remind us from the older generation to be patient and understanding when explaining things to young people who "dont get the references". To explain things in such a way to help the younger generation understand history, and why/how things developed to how they are today. So the next time some new band like My Chemical Romance & The Used sample a rock song (like "Under Pressure" by David Bowie in the 1980's), we can politely remind you that the cover-song isnt "original".. its a remake (but you didnt realize at first because you didnt "hear" the reference) - WhoRadley, on 08/20/2008, -0/+9Rule 7 of Digg Commenting: No One Cares.
- aerospace, on 08/20/2008, -2/+11Even the first thing in the list is wrong. Harry Potter was born in the summer of 1980, he'd be 28 and very unlikely to be in the freshman class at college. He's a high school drop-out anyway.
- ZackScott, on 08/20/2008, -0/+9Damn it, I tried to delete this comment, because I realize it meant people entering college today. Now I am stuck with the shame.
- BOFH2, on 08/20/2008, -2/+10whipper snapper! I am 37
- bbautista, on 08/20/2008, -0/+8Also, he's not real.
- Norumeni, on 08/20/2008, -0/+8I've recently been reading 1957 LIFE magazines, and there are plenty of advertisements for IBM typewriters, so whoever wrote this article is really old...
- iseth, on 08/20/2008, -0/+8Nice catch. It was changed to St Petersburg on Sept 6th, 1991, which means that they would've been alive while it was still Leningrad. (Had to check myself, since I was thinking it was earlier.)
- thespiff, on 08/20/2008, -0/+8No way are kids still reading Goosebumps. They faded out at the same time I grew out of them, and I was Penn State Class of 2007. Kids 4-5 years younger than me weren't reading Goosebumps..
- lyunya, on 08/20/2008, -3/+1138. Lenin's name has never been on a major city in Russia.
See: Leningrad - ledmonkey, on 08/20/2008, -0/+8Maybe at your school...
- markormesher, on 08/20/2008, -3/+11Honestly, half those things are things that incoming freshmen will never care about/only hear from people who consider themselves "old timers."
- timdgibson, on 08/20/2008, -2/+10Except Beloit College has been doing this for 11 years. They were first.
- N3M3515, on 08/20/2008, -3/+10*61 The first weekend of the fall semester the cops raid all the parties and give out minors to set a precedence
