- popzero, on 06/14/2009, -0/+30I suppose our banner ads will also look quaint in 75 years. (You know, when ads are beamed directly into our dreams. Must buy Lightspeed Briefs...)

- GoingPostal, on 06/14/2009, -0/+7My dad owned an Esso gas station when I was in grade school. That sign sure brought back memories.
- thepicklebot, on 06/14/2009, -0/+6I love this era of advertising, there is something vaguely sinister about some of it!
- svendm, on 06/14/2009, -2/+7I suppose it's another example of Americans using "Europe" as a substitute for "the UK".
- MOJIRA, on 06/14/2009, -0/+4Who doesn't love some vintage signage?
Personally, I'd love it if television commercials were old and vintage. Coca Cola and all the other major brands that have been around for a while should just re-air their old ads. I'd enjoy watching those commercials and I bet old people would too. - svendm, on 06/14/2009, -1/+5"Now it is difficult to find antique porcelain enamel signs in excellent condition. Collectors pay hundreds and even thousands of dollars for each addition to their collections."
Hmm, they should come visit Sweden. They're collected here too, but not worth anything near that much. Lots and lots of places still have enamel street signs on buildings. There's even a limited production of new ones (e.g. www.faluemaljskyltar.se ) - bludhound, on 06/14/2009, -0/+4They still have Esso stations in Canada.

- specialcases, on 06/14/2009, -0/+2They're just trying to make it sound a bit more sophisticated
- fuckingusername, on 06/14/2009, -0/+2I would say your sign is 30's due to the Deco style painting
- SickMonkey, on 06/14/2009, -0/+1If anyone is an expert on old signs, I'd like to know the approximate date of this piece I bought about ten years ago from a salvage shop. From what little I know, it is an ad for a circus sideshow show (topless snake dancer) taken off the side of an old circus truck. It most probably dates from the 1920's-1950's, but I have no idea. It is part hand painted and part air bushed.

- absolutelytrue, on 06/14/2009, -0/+1I agree, 30s or possibly 40s. I believe it pre-dates the 50s.
- bigguy434, on 06/14/2009, -0/+1very good...is it my computer or are they only showing 2/3rds of sign?
- toastbot, on 06/14/2009, -2/+1Did anyone else read the Hires sign as "Hi-Res"?
- digitalArtform, on 06/14/2009, -2/+1The photo of each sign should be above its caption, not below it.
