- TheInimitable, on 05/13/2008, -1/+51Can't live without? We'll see about THAT.
- Jsmuli2, on 05/13/2008, -2/+28well, this site is blocked at my office, so I guess I won't be living much longer.
- Coffeedemon, on 05/13/2008, -2/+21Might check this later. Not going to a site that decided it was cool to use the word "porn" in their URL while I'm at work and the monitors are logging lists of URLs. Don't really need the scrutiny.
- mrdimn, on 05/13/2008, -1/+15The one site, I didn't see but every person should know about before buying a digital camera:
http://www.dpreview.com
This web site really takes a camera apart, shows it's strengths and weaknesses, and then gives you a rating!
One of the best out there! - Jah30, on 05/13/2008, -9/+20This is freakin Awesome. You camerporn guys ROCK!!!!!
- robbob, on 05/13/2008, -0/+10Refused to click. Still livin' and with more free time.
- fani, on 05/13/2008, -0/+11Blocked at work because the freaking website has "porn" in it. Damn...
- ErikHarrison, on 05/13/2008, -0/+10"saw" or "hoped" ????
- inactive, on 05/13/2008, -4/+13Pics or it didn't happen.
- juliehardman, on 05/13/2008, -3/+13What about dpreview.com! Do a search for digital cameras and dpreview is number one. Hell its where most of the blogs listed get their information from including engadget and gizmodo
- lukeduke, on 05/13/2008, -1/+7Is there nudity?
- Dukester, on 05/13/2008, -0/+4Good for you. Now move along.
- Soave, on 05/13/2008, -1/+5I was surprised to see Digital Photography School so early on the list. It's a great site, but I didn't think it was well known.
I know self-advertisements are always Dugg down, but I wrote an article for them about a week ago and thought I'd share it with Digg:
http://digital-photography-school.com/blog/perfect ... - Verytastycheese, on 05/13/2008, -1/+4I was actually hoping for 60 good pornography links when I first clicked it...
- kiwimonk, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2I like this one, cause you get to look at pictures.. my favorite part of reading books... http://pixdaus.com/index.php?pageno=170&sort=most
- MrSlumberjack, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2No George Steinmetz!??
http://www.georgesteinmetz.com/ - Malevolant, on 05/13/2008, -2/+4I recommend kenrockwell.com for photographers just getting started or non-pros. He is loved and hated, but he does a good job at putting things in layman's terms. Using his testing/recommendations with those from various boards like dpreview, it helped me pick the perfect lenses for my chosen subject(s), i.e., Alaska wildlife and nature. Some samples(300 or so) here...http://flickr.com/photos/amalgamutt
If you are in the market for a new DSLR and/or lenses, the best thing you can do is hammer said sites for all of the information they contain. You'll know exactly what they are and aren't capable of. You can also rent lenses, etc. over the net just like you rent movies at Netflix, pretty cool.
As for the site having the name porn in it, they limit their audience by having porn in the name, regardless of if the site has porn in it or not. The site is good, don;t get me wrong. Most won't go there from work because of the way it looks to those who don't know it's just a photography-centric site. Others have mentioned the site being filtered out by firewalls.
I'd be interested in seeing the best of digg photographers work - synthoid, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2Actually, I've lived without all these ***** links for 22 years. This article just got pwned by me.
- thatsoccerkid, on 05/13/2008, -7/+12 any one else see this at first 60 Pornography Links You Can't Live Without
- U8IK, on 05/13/2008, -2/+4good links maybe but lame (bombastic) title - *60* things you *can't* live without?
It's so hard living these days... - blast_flame, on 05/13/2008, -1/+3Not in any way this fixes.
- RubineBoy, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2At least they don't block you writing or thinking "porn". That would be a disappointment huh.
- CynicSight, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2Then we don't care.
- tgelston, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2You all might want to check out twipphoto.com Podcast for photographers and flikr discussion group.
- Soave, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1Thanks!
- ninovb, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2I read that article a few days ago... Sweet shot man, So much dedication to get the shot. I love it.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/avizzini/ - savweb, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1Such websites could be easily collected into one ring using link exchange service, e.g. http://www.linksjunk.com/ . It is automated process, just pick up or suggest the category and let us all know about new great photo sites.
- Revenuer, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1RGR that
- Doriath, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1The one site what?
- Yout, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Those shots are fantastic. Since I first read that article, I've been going around town thinking "oh man, I wonder what hour of what day of the year would make this the perfect photo!"
- dscottpeps, on 05/13/2008, -5/+6there goes my oh-so-productive monday!! love it!
- Carlsen, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1Strobist should be #1.
- thesonofdarwin, on 05/13/2008, -1/+2I agree. There are so many sites NOT listed that many photographers use on a daily basis. That dpreview was completely looked over, and Fred Miranda wasn't added till later...
Rest assured, readers. Photographers have no problem living without 90% of the links posted. - webtroll, on 05/13/2008, -1/+2Well I would have tried to survive without them, but my life is a little better for knowing about these sites and portfolios.
- omgsideburns, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1i came here to say the same thing. :(
- grendel, on 05/13/2008, -1/+2i was living fine before this...
...but now, my life has changed forever. - dcmusicfusion, on 05/13/2008, -2/+3#8) Jeremy Cowart. Rock...
http://www.jeremycowart.com/client/255-music - mitojee, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1Check out the work of Brian Braff. Lots of nice portraits, including some celebrities and female nudes. http://www.brianbraff.com.
- AROZ, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1Yes, but where's Daily Dose of Imagery?
- ROBINHESSELTINE, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1THIS IS COOL
- jezsik, on 05/13/2008, -1/+2No dpreview.com? Nooooooo cookie! That's like putting together a list of search engines you can't live without and neglecting to include google.com. ... and where's www.worth1000.com?
- fotoman, on 05/13/2008, -1/+2Umm... http://www.SportsShooter.com Just a few decent photographers, articles, and photos there :)
- blueomega137, on 05/13/2008, -0/+0Hahaha, I did the exact same thing. Right kick in the balls. So to speak.
- OrangeyTang, on 05/14/2008, -1/+1I've managed to live without them. And I'm sure my life will still be just as complete without them.
- dawgma, on 05/13/2008, -1/+1Coincidentally, the site is called CameraPorn...
- kwerfeldein, on 05/13/2008, -5/+5Yap, this kind of posts are always good for every photographer. Rocks. Definately.
- lecor, on 05/13/2008, -2/+2
Nice list, but why on earth is Digital Photography School in the list. With all due respect, it can hardly be called a valuable photography website, even for beginners… it’s just another mashup of poorly written tutorials submerged within a sea of ads… another one of the authors gimmick websites to generate ad revenue. But if you believe otherwise, please do explain and justify its iinclusion in this list…
Oh, and a great photoblog for those interested, and very much worthy of inclusion… ‘A Daily Dose of Imagery,’ link follows…
http://wvs.topleftpixel.com/ - brianbennett, on 05/13/2008, -1/+1Apparently they don't know jack ***** about photo.net, that's an awesome site, hardly "old and decrepit."
- TranceMist, on 05/13/2008, -7/+10Excellent links!
- tulizx, on 05/13/2008, -1/+1I hear you.
