- Sraser, on 10/29/2009, -16/+95Who would have guessed? Another collection of over saturated, over defined, otherwise very uninteresting subjects.
"Frank picked up the techniques quickly though not having much experience in creating HDR images, or even photography. "
No way, seriously?
If he dropped the HDR crap and actually focused on proper colour control, cropping, SUBJECT MATTER, etc. he may actually have the potential to create a couple of really nice photographs out of the stuff here. - spookyttws, on 10/30/2009, -1/+44I wasn't amazed.
- d3sp, on 10/30/2009, -0/+26Way overdone, bleh.
- AmazingA, on 10/29/2009, -19/+43Can we skip the 50 "HDR sucks" comments for once? The guy above me has already covered every point you're about to (re)make, and these pictures are cool to look at regardless of how easy they were to create.
- lukas88, on 10/30/2009, -2/+24HDR is a useful technique for enhancing textures and giving shots that include both light and dark features that surreal quality.
But I agree with you, these are overdone. If you look at a photo and you can tell immediately that it is HDR, then it is probably overdone. - i23Photography, on 10/30/2009, -0/+22Halos much?... Not impressed
- lukas88, on 10/30/2009, -1/+21This stuff just looks tacky. HDR looks best when it is so subtle that you can't tell it is HDR.
- supferrets, on 10/30/2009, -4/+19How to become an amazing photographer:
1. Buy camera
2. Crank up saturation
3. Take pictures of ***** - GregLoire, on 10/30/2009, -2/+17Looks like the site is down. Perhaps it was over-saturated with visitors.
...sorry. - rheaume, on 10/30/2009, -1/+1599% of this makes me ill. Im a photographer/artist and this just *****, I mean, maybe add a few lens flares, 3 wolves and a huge moon?
- OverDriven, on 10/30/2009, -0/+13I don't really get the whole "HDR" thing. I've seen a few that look good, but most look like someone went into photoshop, pegged the saturation off the charts and screwed the levels all up.
- WhoDoneIt, on 10/30/2009, -1/+13LMFAO . these were just horrible. I'm sorry, but even "normal" HDR is better than these. Try getting these printed and see how nice they look.
Good thing he has a day job. These were some of the worse photos I've seen in a long time. - morgens2, on 10/30/2009, -0/+12I agree with you about the endless HDR sucks comments are repetitive, but come on, these pictures are just simply not good, even for HDR pictures. They are just waaaay too over saturated that the ruin the whole picture.
I mean the clouds in the first picture look like they were photoshopped in because the ski is so blown out. - Sraser, on 10/29/2009, -3/+14I think the issue is, is that there are an endless number of HDR threads with what are (essentially) the same pictures each time.
And it's not because the general populace wants to see them, its because power users submit them endlessly. (Like the submitter.) - digg-dugg, on 10/30/2009, -0/+940 Beautiful Pictures Ruined by Shoddy HDR
The halos between dark and light areas is a sideffect caused by using these faux hdr techniques. This is not intentional, ugly, and the fact that you can control all this hdr information allready contained in your raw files with the latest Adobe Camera Raw, make it all completely useless. - ZirconiumZephyr, on 10/30/2009, -0/+7While normally I would roll my eyes at those who always criticize HDR for always being unrealistic, unimaginative and otherwise dull. I have now seen the light. How the ***** did these make it onto a blog, let alone digg. They have to be some of the worst examples of HDR photography I have ever seen.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/30/2009, -0/+7You forgot a kitten, a photo of a girl's cleavage, and an emo grunge filter.
*****, you'd make flickr explore every day if you used that formula. - Mike9824, on 10/30/2009, -1/+8Too CSI Miami-ish for me.
- hazard99, on 10/30/2009, -0/+6If done correctly, I like HDR. However, these don't look that great, and the colors are overwhelming.
- AlienMushroom, on 10/30/2009, -0/+640 HDR Pictures Would Disappoint You.
- ghostofreddit, on 10/30/2009, -1/+7wow, those all suck.
How embarrassing for you. - supferrets, on 10/30/2009, -1/+6YEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
- Azsen, on 10/30/2009, -0/+4None of the pics look real. The colours are nice blends and I'm sure HDR works in some circumstances for certain audiences, however these look overdone.
- digg-dugg, on 10/30/2009, -0/+4No man, the point of HDR is not to make surreal imagery, it's the opposite. HDR is used to mimic light how the human eye naturally sees it, beyond the limitations of a camera. It should be used for this purpose only, until retards get a hold of it and create "art".
- Idiggapony, on 10/30/2009, -0/+44. ??????
- clouds31, on 10/30/2009, -1/+5I guess we're
*Puts on sunglasses*
done here. - Grizzleyt, on 10/30/2009, -1/+5edit: nvm, when zooming in on some images most all of them are pretty bad.
- Khirzask, on 10/30/2009, -0/+45. Profit!
- LiquidIse, on 10/30/2009, -1/+5But you would be
- ncard02, on 10/30/2009, -0/+3these all look like paintings
- burrdugg, on 10/30/2009, -1/+4Finally some photos that looks realistic to the life here on planet Mars.
- yourmightyruler, on 10/30/2009, -1/+4The problem with most HDR out there is the fact that they have oversaturated midtones. There is no tonal range. No shadow, no highlights. When your chromatic abberation (like on this photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/slack12/1990499018/si ... is so oversaturated that it becomes its own subject matter, then there is a problem with the photograph.
- Fozefy, on 10/30/2009, -0/+3I generally like HDR photos and usually have one set as my background, but these ones were dissapointing and I really didn't like any of them...:(
- Denex, on 10/30/2009, -2/+5the site is down, but no matter. If i wanted to see excessive HDR, i'd play Oblivion.
- zoomaKabu, on 10/30/2009, -0/+2Because that's what most of them are, simulated HDR done from a single exposure.
- perlamouse, on 10/30/2009, -0/+2Once upon a time, I was really excited for HDR in regards to the world of 3D when I first started seeing it being applied at SIGGRAPH years ago... now, I've come to despise it. HDR has become the new lens flare.
I'm really getting sick of these hideous, over-saturated, oil-stained images that people pass off as "photography". Rarely does a good HDR image come along, and when it does, it's typically from the hands of an experienced photographer who knows what he's doing to begin with, and focuses on an interesting subject and good composition foremost. - coheedcollapse, on 10/30/2009, -0/+2Hell yeah man. One of my favorite HDR photographers (which happens to be one of my contacts on flickr) is this guy named rustyjaw. He specializes in abandoned buildings and has really figured out a way to keep that shadowy feeling while using the tonemapping/exposure blending process.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/tendril/sets/
Most of the overdone HDR ***** is created by people who know nothing real about composition and light and just use the process to compensate for the lack of talent. Unfortunately, the process works stunningly when it comes to impressing idiots with no taste in photography. - coheedcollapse, on 10/30/2009, -1/+3As a photographer, HDR makes me want to stab myself in the face.
Such a ***** process when it's used incorrectly, and that's 99% of the damn time. - Exekutor, on 10/30/2009, -2/+4Lets first skip the "50 most amazing HR you've ever seen" news.
Seriously, I don't know how these posts get so much attention if nobody likes these pictures. - non00b, on 10/30/2009, -0/+240 pics that replicate taking really, really good quality LSD.
I'll stick to classic beautiful landscape photography, thanks. - hereticoftruth, on 10/30/2009, -0/+2Hey! It looks like the old timey color photographs of yesteryear! How nostalgic!
- urik88, on 10/31/2009, -0/+1No
- jasonbarone, on 10/31/2009, -0/+1http://photographer.ytmnd.com/
- nashio, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1Only thing missing there is Robbin Williams
- Nature1, on 10/31/2009, -0/+1A photograph is supposed to have the element of flow and line to direct my eye... some of this is so distracting from the real photo that I don't even know where to look. It masks the lines, and ruins the flow.
- tjrvideoman, on 11/08/2009, -0/+1Seriously what happened to good photography. The halo artifacting on some of these is just bad form period. There are good HDR photos out there some of these are cool but some are just over done. There is such a thing a subtlety people! Just like CGI in movies... Too much is too much! Learn to take a good regular photo then add in the HDR to take it a step further. AVOID HALOing. That makes your HDR look crappy.
- lakanen, on 10/30/2009, -1/+2Somebody needs some WebServerInspiration dot com.
- zoomaKabu, on 10/30/2009, -1/+2No, they are not cool to look at. They suck in the extreme. Can we skip the "hey you don't need to comment on this" post on a forum designed specifically so anybody can comment?
- zoomaKabu, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1Do an edge detection then color it in with crayons.
