- Maddoktor2, on 02/02/2009, -2/+88The liver story was concocted to hide the fact that it has a Goa'uld in it.
- Sonan, on 02/02/2009, -2/+65The article says it'll probably fetch about 1000 pounds, which currently translates to about $1450 USD. And they're more likely to put it in a museum, which will protect it better from the elements than putting it on a museum would.
- p8ntslinger676, on 02/03/2009, -0/+56screw selling it, its not even worth that much, keep it and brag about that *****..."yea, ya know, it's only like 3000 years old"
- Sonan, on 02/02/2009, -0/+46But if the owner sells it, where will his family put his liver when he dies?
- megamod, on 02/02/2009, -5/+48noobs...let's see your uncle who was a "bit" of a collector gave it to you [probably through a will or something] and you don't care to think "hey maybe this is legitimate"?
- BingoPower, on 02/03/2009, -0/+42Beware! It's a pyramid-scheme.
- acontorer, on 02/03/2009, -0/+39That's nothing, I have a 5 million year old rock on my desk as decoration.
- BETRAMS, on 02/03/2009, -1/+37I dugg you twice for making me read that 2 times.
- jerstud56, on 02/03/2009, -0/+32wait about 6000 more years and it'll over 9000.
- stklaw, on 02/03/2009, -2/+27£1,000 isn't even news worthy.
- marksism, on 02/03/2009, -3/+25IT BELONGS IN A MUSEUM!
- RunDiggMC, on 02/03/2009, -0/+18"Honey, what do you say we throw away this old vase and buy a nice, new one at Pier 1?"
- dazparkour, on 02/03/2009, -2/+19Does your copy still have the "All people featured in this book are fictional and any similarity to people alive or dead is purely coincidence." disclaimer?
- CylonsOfTheLamb, on 02/03/2009, -0/+16There's a store down the street from my house that sells liquified remains of dinosaurs. I bought some the other day and I've been igniting and burning it a little bit at a time as I travel back and forth to work.
- babydick, on 02/03/2009, -0/+15wtf mate
- Kabloink, on 02/03/2009, -0/+14Only if its on velvet and glows under black lights.
- fugazied, on 02/03/2009, -1/+15Idiots. I wonder if the damage on the piece came from the 20 years they left it in on the patio in the weather.
- Quicksilver4648, on 02/03/2009, -0/+13Probably not, pawn it.
- inactive, on 02/03/2009, -0/+13well played sir!
- JohnDo, on 02/02/2009, -3/+16antiques at their finest.
- karlw, on 02/03/2009, -1/+13Antiques Road Show guy would go crazy,
- inactive, on 02/03/2009, -0/+12Probably not. However, sometimes people hide valuable paintings behind other paintings. It happens all the time in movies. Give it a try.
- boerema, on 02/03/2009, -2/+13I am sick and tired of these motherf-ing snakes on my montherf-ing spine.
- jerstud56, on 02/03/2009, -1/+11it'll be*
Damnit. I edited it and it didn't even save it. Good job, Digg. =( - Kabloink, on 02/03/2009, -0/+10They would go on for ten minutes on how rare it was and lucky they were to have such a wonderful example of Egyptian pottery. Explaining every mark on the vase and how rare it was to see such a mark. Which would build up the hopes of the owner that they own a rare expensive vase that will enable them to retire early or to go on that dream vacation . To only have their dreams crushed at the end with the estimate of $1,000 and perhaps $2,000 for insurance reasons. The look on their faces is always priceless.
I think they need to have a best of crushed dreams Antique Roadshow episode. - Meocross, on 02/03/2009, -1/+11SHI-
- richlw, on 02/03/2009, -1/+11So do you! Thorw him over the side!
- fxu1989, on 02/03/2009, -0/+9>>The owner of the ancient jar, who does not want to be named
I hope the picture that's in the article is not of the owner... If so, /facepalm. - Shamusjp, on 02/03/2009, -0/+9Whats your address?
- ZeroCubed, on 02/03/2009, -0/+9Awww really? Man and I thought the picasso in my living room was real! I've been telling everyone for years the one in he museum was just a fake...
- brstilson, on 02/03/2009, -0/+8Somebody didn't get the joke. /captainobvious
- FreckleEars, on 02/03/2009, -0/+8I am sick and tired of these *****' snakes on my *****' spine.
Why censor? - passedoutghost, on 02/03/2009, -1/+9I think she could be an archaeologist? The owner didn't want to be named so I don't think they're going to post a picture of themselves. It's like saying "Hey guys! I didn't even know the vase was worth a fortune before I damaged it, LOL!"
- TheOther1, on 02/03/2009, -1/+9So if you sold your house for $1, and then decided 10 years later you wanted it back, someone should just hand it over to you?
- GMUGnome, on 02/03/2009, -0/+8Why sell it if it's only worth a thousand pounds? I'd keep it for myself!
- goodbyepolar, on 02/03/2009, -0/+7OLD!
- greenblob, on 02/03/2009, -3/+9No it isn't. It will never be useful. Stop being delusional. Congrats on wasting $200,000.
- rhysboy84, on 02/03/2009, -4/+9And I was rooting around upstairs, and underneath some old blankets, I found the original copy of the bible.....which was nice.
- jetblackz4, on 02/03/2009, -0/+5I collect ancient Egyptian artifacts and have some pretty cool things. A Canoptic jar is fairly common if you know where to look. Some of them are absolutely stunning. What you see is the remnants of a once colorful and highly decorated jar. They would put the organs in these so there were a few per burial. I would still prefer a heart scarab over the jar but those are ridiculously expensive.
- handheldchimp, on 02/03/2009, -1/+6Older then the internet...
- rolf, on 02/03/2009, -0/+5Doesn't sound rare enough for a museum at that price. Lots of old things are donated to various museums around the world, and the museum themselves often just auction it off. Something like the smithsonian (which is comprised of many museums) can only put about 5% of their collection out at any one time and the rest is either on traveling exhibit or more like, one of several warehouses.
Just because something is old doesn't make it automatical rare or valuable. Many old roman coins can be had for not many dollars. When they were excavating Adrian's wall in Great Britain, they founds thousands upon thousands of pairs of complete leather sandals that were around 2,000 years old and ended up tossing them in a bin. - awicks89, on 02/03/2009, -0/+43000 years old. whats another 20 years in a untended garden?
- 0ceanic, on 02/03/2009, -3/+7Terracotta vase? wtf.
that is obviously a terracotta canopic jar, infact it is the type that is used to store the mummy's liver by imseti, the son of horus.
why bother reading, when they ***** up in the title. - waydee, on 02/03/2009, -0/+4I see lots of people didn't get the reference.
- SMFB, on 02/03/2009, -0/+3how the hell do you not figure it out? .... look at it, seriously.
hey whats that? oh just some rock in my garden..... really? it kind of looks Egyptian... huh? maybe i'll have someone else look at it - Destrucci, on 02/03/2009, -0/+3Kree Jaffa
- joelcass, on 02/03/2009, -0/+3FTA "Egyptian god Imseti, wearing a black striped wig" - I KNEW that wasn't his hair!
- Meocross, on 02/03/2009, -2/+5All i can say is i wish most americans would be as healthy and bright as the woman in the picture. i keep seeing fat cows everywhere (-_-).
- momomathew, on 02/03/2009, -0/+3Don't you mean alive or dead or alive again...
