- calebian, on 03/20/2009, -7/+39reminds me of all the Tool videos
- mlvassallo, on 03/20/2009, -5/+27Hollow Hills.... looks exactly like Nightmare Before Christmas...
- Sraser, on 03/20/2009, -5/+15A lot of these completely suck, and are just unoriginal i.e. "Lost Fairy" and "When the Darkness Fades Away." Could you be more cheesy? And "Hollow Hills" couldn't rip off "The Night Before Christmas" more.
Digg seems to have a community that makes really well constructed critiques on photography, but god damn so many submissions blow. - sharex21, on 03/20/2009, -5/+11dugg fot the "C O R E"..it's really truth about who we are
- drmangrum, on 03/20/2009, -1/+6None of those are remotely in the style of Heavy Metal.
- entropysteak, on 03/20/2009, -0/+4zb is an actual painter, not an uninspired photomanipulator.
- zidane33, on 03/21/2009, -0/+4omg reading the comments make my eyes bleed, talk about art education
- Oomsoup, on 03/20/2009, -0/+4Why the hell did I bother reading all of these horrible comments?
:( - YawehsDead, on 03/20/2009, -0/+3I disagree. Mark Ryden's artwork is genuinely disturbing, not simply "dark".
- DHeitz31, on 03/20/2009, -0/+2I'd say normal since, you know, they are awesome.
- scarth, on 03/20/2009, -0/+2The first one and 'Core' were the best, the rest were so so. individual taste
- tomato1324, on 03/21/2009, -0/+2or at least the ones that know how to live a good life
- evisr8r, on 03/20/2009, -0/+2god, for real... all this crap is lightbulbs, butterflies and naked people with low saturation. w/ 1000 layers of random texture in overlay. boo... learn to think and render.
Like this guy ^ - Fergawa, on 03/21/2009, -0/+2That was incredibly uninspired and generic as far as 'dark' art goes.
- satanherself, on 03/22/2009, -0/+1I thought it was sorta lame actually.
- X9001, on 03/20/2009, -5/+6It would have been a lot better if all of them didn't have that stupid dark and brittle photoshop effect
- isheee, on 03/22/2009, -0/+1A couple of people said they thought of Magritte, but I thought of Escher, too.
And even if not everyone agrees that those were beautiful and great and artistic and not emo, it's still pretty cool how someone could generate something like that. - reverant, on 03/24/2009, -0/+1Some of it is cool/interesting, seems like a lot is armature photoshop junk though
- marciocaparica, on 03/22/2009, -0/+1good out of the box thinking
- killthejill, on 03/21/2009, -0/+1It's kind of like one of those "once you've seen one, you've seen them all" deals.
- dosher199, on 03/21/2009, -0/+1Surreal!
/s - error2k2, on 03/21/2009, -0/+1I see Link got tired of all the "Hey! Listen!" *****...
http://pygar.deviantart.com/art/Lost-Fairy-9850739 ... - rsbryswrrl, on 03/21/2009, -0/+1"Hope" was really cool - do they have prints of any of these?
- iruber1337, on 03/21/2009, -0/+1There is no denying that Truth was pretty awesome but I do agree most seemed like something I'd see hanging in a 16-year old Hot Topic loving teen's bedroom.
- mlvassallo, on 03/24/2009, -0/+1I love how I got 4 diggs down. It is like people can't google "Nightmare Before Christmas" and see that it is ripped right from the poster.
- Wakkyweed, on 03/21/2009, -0/+1It's weird. I knew intellectually that the "Lost Fairy" one was cheesy, but it's also the one I stared at for the longest time.
- hyperreal, on 03/21/2009, -1/+2You're entitled to your opinion. But the point of art is to evoke thought and emotion no matter what kind. There must be a reason you didn't like it, therefore it provoked some thought in you.
- mattofasia, on 03/20/2009, -1/+2Meh. Some of them are interesting visually, I will admit I couldn't do them myself. But they seem derivitave of the "Saw" series of movies. Shock-gore doesn't do it for me personally.
- bluestatic, on 03/20/2009, -2/+3"These things look cool, but I don't understand how people can create such dark looking pictures all day."
Not everyone is the same. Some people like to create this kind of stuff. I wouldn't want to do it all the time either but I can understand that other people do. - CaseyJonesOne, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1Everyone on this list must have read the same "Burton" PS tutorial
- MillionsLivio, on 03/21/2009, -0/+1There is some amazing surreal art out there and this list did not do them justice, very generic and a lot of them rather low quality. Smashing Magazine is usally much better than that, the author got lazy and just decided to put whatever showed up under a deviantart search.
- LtCarter47, on 03/20/2009, -4/+5This looks like fun, digg me down too!!
- gozroth, on 03/20/2009, -1/+2that's all you're allowed to paint if you have to look through your hair.
- topgigmedia, on 03/20/2009, -2/+3stinkfist!
- MurphyWatson, on 03/21/2009, -0/+1Person who wrote the article is ***** retard. Medium is the material used to make the art. Medium doesn't dictate whether what you're making is a surrealist image.
- imomo, on 03/20/2009, -4/+4Oh no! its Voldemort!
- topgigmedia, on 03/20/2009, -4/+4Mark Ryden - I think any of his work tops any of these... http://www.markryden.com/
- CaseyJonesOne, on 03/20/2009, -1/+1uhh Mark Ryden's art has nothing to do with these. It's like comparing Tiger Woods to Pete Rose..
- attiapete, on 03/23/2009, -0/+0The one of the fairy with the broken wings is a little over played, but all in all some really good stuff
- upick, on 03/21/2009, -1/+1Simply Awesome!@!!!
- mKuenzel, on 03/20/2009, -1/+1Some are good and then there are terrible terrible emo gothic craps.
- Sneezyx, on 03/20/2009, -2/+2Lovely art. I expected to see a third, something like "We are forever in this together" with a couple of skeleton hands clutching each other.
- dawngordon, on 09/07/2009, -0/+0when the darkness fades away great picture
- dawngordon, on 09/07/2009, -0/+0do you know who did them? Because I would love to use them on a card, but I want to know who they belong too, people run around scooping pics withOUT permission and placing them on sites and paper not realizing it is illegal
- dawngordon, on 09/07/2009, -0/+0some do not know the difference either of dark art like this and what is called life photography, so photography based on life...
- coastiefish, on 03/20/2009, -1/+1Brainwash just reminded me I need to finish my laundry. I feel so brain dead today.
- dawngordon, on 09/07/2009, -0/+0I like the one fear of light and under the moon..now this is dark art, some confuse dark image artwork with blood and gore
- JesterkingChris, on 04/12/2009, -0/+0Thank you For introducing me to Mark Ryden. Interesting and very Clever. I enjoy unique art. Thank You, I hadn't heard of him yet...
- nonsensesociety, on 07/29/2009, -0/+0Desperation is my favorite! I tend to gravitate towards dark art, so this is the perfect collection for me.
- JermTool, on 03/23/2009, -0/+0yeah Adam would love those.
