- ecomod, on 04/19/2009, -1/+31The technique itself might not be that original, Ivankraszi, but what is cool about this is the symbolism of how the piece was crafted: its a play on the famous painting 'The Great Wave', it is made out of garbage collected from the pacific ocean - AND it uses exactly 2.4 million pieces of plastic - the same number of plastic that is thrown into the Pacific Ocean every day. I think this is very clever and original.
- Rachmaninov, on 04/19/2009, -3/+14Fantastic, great piece of art.
- dispontainious, on 04/19/2009, -0/+8that toothbrush looks familiar
- ivankraszl, on 04/19/2009, -6/+11It's cool, but as an idea not very nothing original. This mosaic technique of making a large image from a lot of small relevant objects have been done so many times:
Portrait made of naked bodies: http://adsoftheworld.com/media/print/sbs_who_do_yo ...
Portrait made of post stamps: http://adsoftheworld.com/media/ambient/finland_pos ...
Nelson Mandela portrait made of M&M's: http://adsoftheworld.com/media/print/m_ms_nelson_m ...
Gum made of naked bodies: http://adsoftheworld.com/media/print/juicy_fruit_c ...
Sardines can made of Mentos: http://adsoftheworld.com/media/print/mentos_gum_sa ...
etc... - IvanB, on 04/19/2009, -0/+4I liked the submission's piece of art, but these ones are just as great hehe.
- ZeeZee2k, on 04/19/2009, -0/+4FACT: There are more than 10 used condoms in that piece of art.
- ManUnitdFan, on 04/19/2009, -1/+4If life is so short, I might recommend not wasting your time on Digg criticizing other people's art.
- Tr33fiddy, on 04/19/2009, -0/+3Not a triptych.
- b9gh47q, on 04/19/2009, -0/+2Wow, this is actually really well thought out. Original or not, I doubt I'd be able to do something like this.
- sreindl, on 04/19/2009, -0/+2Interesting idea. Raising awareness for this awful thing so few people know about:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Pacific_Garbage ... - feliks2, on 04/19/2009, -0/+2This is not plagiarism, he obviosuly knew that everyone would recognize the image. That is like saying that all remixed songs are plagiarized.
- Thiscouldbeben, on 04/19/2009, -0/+2I was gonna say the same thing about the comb
- Factionrider, on 04/19/2009, -0/+2These are really amazing pieces of art, but they are not made a lot of small relevant objects, they are are just paintings of small relevant objects, not actually naked bodies or stamps.
- Slackdragon, on 04/19/2009, -0/+2Reminds me of that scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off where Cameron stares deeper and deeper into the Seurat painting.
- ivankraszl, on 04/19/2009, -0/+1Yes, I appreciate the symbolism too.
- amitait, on 04/19/2009, -1/+2Garbage
- tomarocco, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1I just flushed some nice Eco-Art down the head.
- velveetaavenger, on 04/19/2009, -4/+5This just in, plagiarism is cool as long as you recycle!
- okayokayokay, on 04/19/2009, -0/+1If you want to learn more, check out this video of Captain Charles Moore speaking at TED (he's the guy who first exposed the endless floating waste of plastic trash known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Wave_off_Kanaga ... - macmcraeart, on 04/19/2009, -0/+1LOL never has a more true statement been uttered. digg is a massive xerox copy of slashdot. BTW xeroxing a masterpiece is NOT art.
- ivankraszl, on 04/19/2009, -0/+1That's true.
- idiosyncrisia, on 04/19/2009, -1/+1So... where is that plastic going once the art is off display or whatever it's doing?
- navidb, on 04/19/2009, -1/+1i'd hate to be the mexican to clean this mess up!
-george lopez - mstaylorwebb, on 08/02/2009, -0/+0I think it's mine from 5th grade
- ObamaYouth, on 04/20/2009, -0/+0why not just photoshop it?
- Fire_Bird, on 04/19/2009, -0/+0it is so great that someone is able to make art (original or not) but also help out the environment in the process!! that is truly inspirational!
ps) i hoped he used gloves and washed his hands! - iamaarti, on 04/30/2009, -0/+0cinematic t-shirt made out of this photo...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vb9RWPwjpHI - nemofishclt, on 04/20/2009, -0/+0Did someone really count 2.4 million pieces of plastic?
- EmWh4c8, on 04/20/2009, -0/+0I feel like I'm missing something here.
- EmWh4c8, on 04/20/2009, -0/+0WOW O_o
- Julian88888888, on 04/19/2009, -2/+1no its not. it's stupid. someone already made that, but better, and not with trash.
- aknolp, on 04/19/2009, -1/+0Did they run out of paint?
- hiPpymIck, on 04/19/2009, -2/+1FTA
the Pacific Gyre, a thousand miles wide ocean current which turns clockwise like a giant slow-motion whirlpool and concentrates tons of the world’s trash.
i take it its in the Northern Hemisphere
- water goes down the plughole anti-clockwise in S Hemisphere - macmcraeart, on 04/19/2009, -7/+2what an incredible waste of time. why in hell would they invest so much time into a piece of art that is a xerox of a masterpiece that someone else did? life is short. make your own image.

What is Digg?
