- drbadass, on 09/07/2008, -7/+841. Find any random set of HDR pictures

4. Profit!!!!!! - phoZoN, on 09/06/2008, -8/+84HDR can't replace a sense for lighting, positioning and most importantly choosing the right motif.
- jakerudy7, on 09/07/2008, -4/+50enough of these "stunning" "amazing" "incredible" HDR shots, enough
- nullcodes, on 09/07/2008, -3/+48These are not High Dynamic range pictures .. they are pastelized and computer enhanced ... actually the dynamic range is low, not high.
This type of HDR is giving real HDR a bad name. - palehorse864, on 09/07/2008, -0/+42HDR is a great tool to capture things you can't ordinarily capture with a single exposure. A photographer can capture the dark frame of a window, and the bright sunny day outside without compromising either. It's really a great thing.
Why is it though that so many HDR shots either have awful looking halos around everything or they're sharpened to heck until they look like somebody painted them. I love it when HDR captures something closer to what the human eye sees, rather than what the camera sees. I've looked at locations I wanted to photograph, but knew that my camera would never capture the fullness of what I was looking at. HDR seems the perfect tool for such situations, but so many use it to create pseudo artistic stylings that just look flat in most instances. - inactive, on 09/06/2008, -2/+35Yes, yes, we get it, you think ***** are stunning.
- waaan, on 09/07/2008, -1/+30overdoing it, next!
- joshuaok, on 09/07/2008, -4/+33OMFG enough of this crap! Please! Yeah, it's cool at first, but it's just a damn processing technique. What makes these worthy of the front page? Please, stop.
- wizzroom, on 09/07/2008, -1/+20this is ***** stupid. that rooster photo IS NOT HDR. HDR is the combination of 3 or more bracketed exposures (typically a over, neutral, and under) to get the full dynamic range in an image.
it requires the subject matter be still and unmoving and a ***** tripod. you're telling me a ***** rooster stood stone still while some guy took this picture? i don't think so.
this is likely a single RAW image thats been made to mimick HDR.
Stunning my ass. Most of them are overprocessed and look like well....*****. Sorry. - quomen, on 09/07/2008, -7/+25I hate these HDR photos. They are rarely very well done. When I do HDR, I just use it to increase the dynamic range of my photo to make up for the inherent limitations with a sensor over film.
- andoru, on 09/07/2008, -4/+21That's right - HDR is achieved by merging several different exposures together - some to capture the highlights, some for midtones, some for shadow tones. These are just a single image that has been tone-mapped to get a certain visual effect.
- goosegoose, on 09/07/2008, -1/+16seriously? another dugg HDR site. jeez. we get it.
- inactive, on 09/06/2008, -4/+19Computers can't replace good penmanship.
Result is all that counts. - worldchanger, on 09/07/2008, -5/+20my, what a big ***** you've got there.
- aji23, on 09/07/2008, -1/+16You are both right. Quomen is right because we know what he meant. Willy is right because, technically, HDR compresses the dynamic range of multiple exposures (choosing only the appropriately exposed regions for each area), allowing it to fit within the bit-depth of the screen or print medium.
Willy just needs to learn how to interpret ambiguous human language. Or he should stick to writing code, which is where his level of stringency is required. - larrythedog, on 09/07/2008, -2/+15HDR - the "Watercolor" filter of the millennium.
- snoogit, on 09/07/2008, -0/+12Also true for *****.

- worldchanger, on 09/07/2008, -1/+13that was fowl.
- SkinnerBox, on 09/06/2008, -2/+14Nobody is saying that it can, it's just a great tool that good photographers can use to take amazing pictures.
- raggles, on 09/07/2008, -1/+12Truly Stunning?
I would have said these were spectacularly mediocre. - inactive, on 09/07/2008, -0/+11The Halos are induced by setting light smoothing to "low" in photomatix. I used to think it was a pretty nifty effect, but now just find it headache-inducing.
- palehorse864, on 09/07/2008, -1/+12This image somewhat captures what i'm talking about.

It's not perfect, but you can see how it captures both the bright sky and the treeline without sacrificing detail of either. Make sure you zoom in to full size or it looks odd. There is also little to no haloing in the picture, and the depth remains as well. - IN5P1R3, on 09/07/2008, -0/+11Some are alright, but many of them are overprocessed. HDR is getting sooo old.
- dhughes, on 09/07/2008, -1/+12 Looks like it's a good 12 inches or more.
- phibit, on 09/07/2008, -0/+101. Reply to comment in the same format.
2. Complain about lack of creativity, and unearthing of meme
3. ???
4. Irony!!!! - Davers, on 09/07/2008, -1/+11I agree. When I saw the photos of, for example, the eagle landing I thought to myself "how did they take a bunch of exposures all while the eagle was in the exact same half-landed pose? Oh yeah, they didn't.
- worldchanger, on 09/07/2008, -0/+9a little late, are we?
- drunkskunk, on 09/07/2008, -0/+8Yes.. I was stunned...truly stunned...actually not really. They were more like "25 reasonably good HDR Pictures"
- Wiradon, on 09/07/2008, -1/+9wait until you see my pecker
- directedition, on 09/07/2008, -0/+8HDR, when used right, can get great results. Unfortunately HDR is used in photography much like Facebook users use of Andy Warhol's famous paintings.
- inactive, on 09/07/2008, -1/+9Digg needs an HDR section... so I can choose not to view it.
- worldchanger, on 09/07/2008, -1/+9nah... I'm just scratching the surface.
- vexxefx, on 09/07/2008, -3/+10come on. that joke is just terrible.

- Carmilla07, on 09/07/2008, -0/+7I think the bicycle picture and the cityscape near to the bottom of the article are pretty good examples of staying true to life. But the stuff like the lighthouse and rooster picture. Ugh
