- rsbryswrrl, on 03/27/2009, -0/+10Wow! I love old pics of buildings. That hotel had some pretty cool stuff for that time period - bowling alley, pool, rooftop garden...
- darthsand, on 03/27/2009, -0/+10Oooo those were the good ol' days
- synapsis9, on 03/27/2009, -1/+10Definite credit given to all the workers. I can't stand heights like they had to deal with
- KibblesnBitts, on 03/27/2009, -1/+8Why didn't they choose the building the Gozer worshipers lived in? That's a pretty big ***** building
- otbeverly, on 03/27/2009, -1/+7The bowling alley looks like a great place to drink someone's milkshake with a 10-foot straw, then bludgeon them with a bowling pin.

- lewystud, on 03/27/2009, -1/+5incredible the difference 90 years makes between this and Burj Dubai
- zerton, on 03/27/2009, -0/+4I would love that level of craftsmanship to return to architecture. No one wants to spend the $$$ anymore.
- zombiecarlin, on 03/27/2009, -0/+3No the building from Ghostbusters is on Washington Square Park and was heavily retouched by special effects for the movie.
- ZincSaucier, on 03/27/2009, -1/+4the sky that building scrapes is long gone nowadays
- D14852001neko, on 03/27/2009, -0/+3Isn't that the building from Ghostbusters?
- zerton, on 03/27/2009, -0/+3sorry you're getting dugg down. apparently some people have forgotten what digg is really for (sharing interesting sites about particular topics)
- thegator25, on 03/27/2009, -1/+4An elegant building of a more civilized age.
- smashingmonkey, on 03/27/2009, -0/+3I can't begin to fathom why you're getting dugg down... thanks for sharing that link. Great stuff!
- smashingmonkey, on 03/27/2009, -0/+3Great pictures! Sometimes I feel like I was born in the wrong half of the century... I listen mostly to swing and hot jazz, love early 20th century art and architecture, and adore art deco style. Give me Django Reinhardt, Louis Armstrong, or Duke Ellington any day - to me that stuff sounds fresh, ahead of its time and even still ahead of our time.
- floorman56, on 03/27/2009, -0/+3The box that Harry Houdini used in that pool trick. Was later used as his coffin
http://www.magictricks.com/halloween/halloweenhoud ... - username7410, on 03/27/2009, -0/+2Was going to ask "Is that bowling alley from There Will Be Blood" ...this was such a better way to comment on that observation. Dugg!
- l034me, on 03/27/2009, -0/+2I have never heard of groin-vaulted hallways.
- iDiggr, on 03/27/2009, -0/+2AND it's all on one page. Nice.
- onionoino, on 03/27/2009, -0/+2Fantastic pics in there thanks for posting that link. I dugg you up for it.
- museamongmen, on 03/28/2009, -0/+2Ahh ... the age that birthed Art Deco.
Anyone wanna bring Art Deco back with me? It will be the classiest revolution. - markymark123, on 03/27/2009, -1/+3That first pic reminds me of Tenpenny Tower...
http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/fallout/images/b ... - onionoino, on 03/27/2009, -0/+2am i the only one who is simultaneously fascinated and creeped out by technology and buildings from the early 20th century.
- toekneebullard, on 03/27/2009, -0/+2"The architect, Arthur Loomis Harmon, covered the mass with irregular yellowy-tan brick, roughened as if centuries old,"
"Then someone came in and ***** it up with a metal structure you'd see on the front of any Starbucks." - Gguillorn, on 03/27/2009, -0/+2I live in NYC, and it's a real shame that no one puts any effort into craftsmanship anymore. The only skyscrapers that go up now are giant glass boxes. There is no detail, no thought, and no adornments for the sake of art. It's like the city is being designed by someone who had a thing for aquariums as a kid.

- inactive, on 03/27/2009, -0/+1Stop complaining and get used to it. This will not change.
- Cwo655321, on 03/28/2009, -1/+2keep saying that and eventually it'll be true.
- vsaint, on 03/27/2009, -1/+2It looks like tenpenny tower...sans crotchety old man with nuclear bomb detonator and angry ghouls.
- elborro44, on 03/27/2009, -0/+1thats so dapper
- techweenie1, on 03/27/2009, -0/+1so true.
- ddhillon, on 03/27/2009, -0/+1Sheraton
- mishabear, on 03/27/2009, -0/+1only now when it scrapes, it leaves a mark in the smog
- CutNeeds, on 03/27/2009, -0/+1The Shelton Hotel is sooooo expensive.
- verynegative, on 03/27/2009, -1/+2The snorg tees girl looks ***** hot.
- iDiggr, on 03/27/2009, -0/+1No *****. I hate when people post comments just to post a comment. Either have substance to your comment, or stop your input. Anyone who has visited the link knows that it was 20 pics and 20 pages. That comment is useless.
- mrp1ckles, on 03/27/2009, -0/+0Would you kindly...
- aMonkeyCruel, on 03/27/2009, -0/+0You mean the marriot?
- inactive, on 03/27/2009, -2/+1The Gatekeeper & Keymaster say 'Hi'.
- Gguillorn, on 03/27/2009, -0/+0Some of them are still kind of, you know..."still there"...in the "present"
- scarlettletter, on 03/27/2009, -0/+0Gentrification to the extreme! Love it.
- inactive, on 03/27/2009, -1/+1New York City's luxure is overrated. You pay a lifetime of salary to swim in a crowded tiny pool full of urine, while you can be alone in a clean pool 5 times the size for a nominal fee in the slightly more remote regions.
- inactive, on 03/27/2009, -3/+2This kind of reminded me of the end sequence in Gangs of New York
