- nickbarber, on 09/04/2008, -0/+37After seeing all the objects being shot, I saw the kid's head and freaked out.
- hawksdomain, on 09/04/2008, -4/+38I just gotta ask, why so many bullet shots? :(
- luap119, on 09/04/2008, -3/+30How dare they shoot a FULL PBR can!
- bobh1234, on 09/04/2008, -0/+15Because they flap their wings really damn fast. I noticed that too.
- etsboy1, on 09/04/2008, -1/+13Probably because they travel really really fast, but the child one is good.
- ventralnet, on 09/04/2008, -0/+11that was hot
everyone remember to not just bury, but report - IphtashuFitz, on 09/04/2008, -0/+10Props to Doc Edgerton, who pioneered high speed photography at MIT in the 1920's & 30's. I love these sorts of photographs, and a lot of it is thanks to his pioneering work.
- Gauthic, on 09/04/2008, -0/+9Javascript annoyance. Don't click.
- vptel, on 09/04/2008, -0/+9I just dugg it due to all the pictures being on the same page. NO 13 pages of loading adverts is always nice
- BetterOffEd, on 09/04/2008, -2/+11Elitist.
- shortyjacobs, on 09/04/2008, -1/+10Wait, the kid or the apple?
- exomni, on 09/04/2008, -0/+9The hummingbird picture is actually at a slower shutter speed than is normal. If you take a fast shot of a hummingbird, let alone a "high speed" shot, the wing will be completely stopped. They look very insect-like.
I love the blood drop in the milk. - toconnor, on 09/04/2008, -0/+8How come the hummingbird is still blurry?
- doublefelix, on 09/04/2008, -0/+8They're sugar-powered.
- TekeeTakShak, on 09/04/2008, -0/+7Very very very NSFW...
***** you. - Jeepy, on 09/04/2008, -0/+7That kid has some serious dandruff going there. Head and Shoulders little guy.
- DesignerScott, on 09/04/2008, -0/+7WHY?
Do you enjoy being a dick? - drachemorder, on 09/04/2008, -1/+7Why not? Things getting blown up or shot to pieces make some of the most striking high-speed photos there are.
Besides, shooting various things full of holes is just plain fun. - RSS14, on 09/04/2008, -0/+6According to Wikipedia: "They can hover in mid-air by rapidly flapping their wings 15–80 times per second"
- nashrebel, on 09/04/2008, -1/+7The best is the yellow balloon.
- rdmorley, on 09/04/2008, -0/+5It was all fun and games until they ruined a perfectly good PBR
- spacerobot, on 09/04/2008, -0/+5Thanks, *****.
Someone found a way to exploit Chrome. How do you report? - lostlyrics, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4you should not mention another man's
connoisseur when ladies are present ... - btschul, on 09/04/2008, -0/+4Link resizes your browser and makes it jump around the screen. Don't click.
- jeremyduffy, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3Faster than a speeding bullet!
- IphtashuFitz, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3I played around with taking these types of pictures long ago. A common early approach was to take the pictures in a darkroom where you have the camera shutter open and a flash synchronized to go off at the right time. I forget where I found them but I built a couple devices (I'm also an amateur electronics tinkerer) that let me trigger a flash based on noise, with the ability to adjust how many milliseconds between the sound and the triggering of the flash. I have pictures somewhere in a box in my attic of a hammer breaking a lightbulb and other similar things using this method. Set things up in the dark room. Turn off the lights. Open the shutter of the camera. Drop the hammer. The sound of the breaking glass triggers the flash. Close the shutter. Done.
Another, less accurate method, would be to simply have the hammer on a pivot and two bare wires, one attached to the pivot and one attached to the base. When the wires touch the flash triggers. - ProtoZoa, on 09/04/2008, -1/+4YOU BITCH ASS ***** MOTHER *****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- bigdoglj52, on 09/04/2008, -0/+313 photos on 1 page. Dugg
- GVR90, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3DON'T CLICK. Report.
- fejjfunklamella, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3You mean shotgunned, right?
- audomatix, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3That's pretty quick. Might even be able to catch me makin love to the old lady... Then I can be like see honey, that's why you bother!
- ventralnet, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3The link makes your browser window jump around and shows pictures of some guys dick.. Just bury and then a report link will appear and you can report him
- flapanthers87, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3It's amazing that these are all high speed photographs, basically bringing the fast impacts/explosions (of yogurt and such) to a still moment, yet the hummingbirds' wings are STILL blurry.
- smashingmonkey, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2Can you not turn off the filters for long enough to see the beauty in these bullet shots?
- BestJaxx, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2And flashes some really disgusting images on the screen.
- cawpin, on 09/04/2008, -1/+3Agreed, I'm gonna have to start trying these shots.
- etsboy1, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2the cameras are mindbendingly expensive
- Greg2k, on 09/04/2008, -1/+2I would click through 13 pages of loading adverts to digg your comment
- ericmerrill, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1HiddenLYNX: I don't see why people are so quick to trash cheap beer. It's kinda like saying driving the piss out of a late-'80s hatchback in an empty parking lot on a rainy day sucks after you've driven a Cadillac through Buffalo.
- Idietired, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1Yeah, I do a little with electronics too. I've heard about rigs like yours, but the noise trigger is a really cool idea.
I never did get the opportunity to play with "artistic" photography. When I got into photog stuff, I pretty much jumped right into entertainment, spot news and sports shooting.
For my stuff, it's all about Digital SLR's, fast glass and a faster shutter finger, which is why I love high-speed art stuff like this. It'd take a while for me to understand light enough to get shots like these, not to mention the equipment (dark room, flash trigger, etc.) - t4stringer, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1I love pictures like this
- ikayto, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1the yogurt and beer ruined the simple and natural theme they had going.
cool though. - ivantalboys, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1One mans elitist is another mans Connoisseur

for a start ok :D - Hoogs, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1Does anyone know how much these cameras cost? I'm sure they're ridiculously expensive, but it's still something I'd like to save up for. You could literally record anything and make it look awesome.
- godmode, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1These are really cool.
I thank the op for not using "Amazing" or "Best" in the title. -
