- MAG1CO, on 11/29/2008, -21/+157Il stick with Transmission but that still looks pretty cool.
- Junior612, on 11/29/2008, -14/+98We had this discussion already: http://digg.com/apple/Mac_uTorrent_beta_is_finally ...
It's apparent that Transmission was the hands down favorite. - webgeek2point0, on 11/30/2008, -5/+83Your.Title.Fail.
- therealknewman, on 11/30/2008, -2/+67Tired. Of. Writing. Like. This.
Now. - Willravel, on 11/29/2008, -4/+50Agreed. The dl/ul rates on the icon are a must, but uTorrent is impressive.
- oceanplexian, on 11/30/2008, -7/+44^ I agree that Transmission is much better on OS X, but the real problem is that uTorrent has commercial backing and is dealing with PeerFactor (involved in anti-p2p operations). It's not open-source software and isn't giving back to the OSS community that developed bittorrent. It is a decent client, but transmission has my vote.
- wastern, on 11/30/2008, -4/+35I like that Transmission has IP block lists built right into the app
- casemon, on 11/30/2008, -2/+32uTorrent was cool on Windows, but for the Mac, Transmission is the bees knees
- nickmcc, on 11/30/2008, -1/+24"µTorrent. Mac. Beta. Victory."
Look. Before. You. Leap.
I guess you missed the line in the last paragraph about how "Transmission still wins nonetheless." - hartley, on 11/30/2008, -2/+16third for deluge.
but if you want utorrent now, its runs in wine VERY well. in fact utorrent was my default torrent client for a long time because of how well it ran with wine. - indraneel24, on 11/30/2008, -2/+16I don't love the UI but it downloads much much faster than Transmission.
- inactive, on 11/30/2008, -3/+16uTorrent is free..... :P
- HigherLogic, on 11/30/2008, -2/+15You do know you can customize the view, right? The UI can be made as minimal or maximal as you want:
http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/5254/utorrentxq ... - synergye, on 11/30/2008, -2/+14Sorry isn't good enough, yet you're the reason I use private trackers with enforced ratios and Hit and Run rules.
- RedS0x, on 11/30/2008, -2/+14In closing, I think it goes well with the overall look of OS X.
- inactive, on 11/29/2008, -12/+23transmission is very light it has all the features you need, i don't see why i'd be using anything else
- glitchbit, on 11/30/2008, -2/+12I can confirm that uTorrent Beta phones home to many IP's for unknown reasons to me, even before downloading a single torrent. Most of the IPs are from non-US locations but some unknown IP addresses creep up and if you try to filter them out your CPU usage will hit the roof.
Not only that but a filter like pg2 will also use up a lot of cpu when uTorrent is in use, I have had both programs taking up 100% of 2 of my 4 cores... uTorrent constantly tries to connect to the blocked IPs - gutistg, on 11/30/2008, -1/+11lol, did you pay for that?
- Zippo, on 11/30/2008, -0/+9Transmission still has more features right now. uTorrent still needs to be more like its Windows brother and have more powerful scheduling...
uTorrent for the Mac is a great step, but Transmission is still the way to go. - c010rb1indusa, on 11/30/2008, -4/+12oy this again, if u used a mac you would realize you don't need a right click, it's seldom used.
Plus mighty mouse has a right click and with the new trackpads on the new Apple notebooks you can assign right click to one of the trackpad corners, which is even better than having 2 buttons. - MattFromSeattle, on 11/30/2008, -1/+9I agree, Transmission works perfectly for my Mac. I've found myself frustrated by uTorrent many times as it chews up bandwidth on my network. In a side by side comparison, uTorrent slows my connection to a crawl and makes it impossible to do anything on my network if it's running, whil Transmission runs in the background and I notice little to no slowdown. Maybe I'm alone on this one?
- seldon452, on 11/30/2008, -2/+10It's a beta. Not a final version. It will only get better.
- mmaville, on 11/30/2008, -5/+12I know this news had already been posted, but I felt like this was a much more balanced review. It was fair and highlighted the great aspects of both programs. This was probably the most useful review yet.
- RedS0x, on 11/30/2008, -3/+10Well, that's just not fair. You configured utorrent to look as cluttered as possible and Transmission to look as clean as possible.
PS: Skitch rules. - darkphan, on 11/30/2008, -1/+7i have been using transmission for a very long time, and have yet to have any problems with it getting banned...
- ChinezePanda, on 11/30/2008, -4/+10Today I stopped using Transmission...
And then I drove by a ripply's miniature golf course that had a windmill where pigs were flying.
And it's probably a cold day in hell as well. - MrSlumberjack, on 11/30/2008, -1/+7no, it means happy. he's trying to say that macs are happy.
- hansning, on 11/30/2008, -0/+6since right before the intel cores on the laptops, you can use two finger click to do a right click. in use, i find it MUCH more useable than a separate button. that added to two-finger scrool defeats pretty much every other trackpad everymade.
@ c010rb1indusa: i disagree, i use right click, all the time in osx - thevirtuesofxen, on 11/30/2008, -4/+10I don't trust µTorrent a bit. A few years ago, BitTorrent, Inc. (the company co-founded by the creator of the BitTorrent protocol) bought the rights to develop µTorrent. BitTorrent, Inc. is RIAA/MPAA friendly, and promotes legal use of the BitTorrent network. Until recently, BitTorrent, Inc's client was open source. Now it is a rebranded version of µTorrent, and closed source. For two years, BitTorrent, Inc. maintained two BitTorrent clients: their open source one, and µTorrent. Why? And now they've stopped maintaining their open source client in favour of µTorrent. It seems fishy to me, there has to be something going on here. BitTorrent, Inc. having so many connections with major content publishers, cannot possibly have published a client with no strings attached. Maybe its paranoia, but I think I'll stick with Vuze.
- xexx, on 11/30/2008, -5/+11meh, I should ban transmission clients from connecting.
- ClevelandBrown, on 11/30/2008, -5/+11More proof that mac user's brains can't handle lots of info.
I'm joking, alright? - cwestpha, on 11/30/2008, -1/+7I dont think these people even used this beta. Its more like a version .5 beta then .9
Major features are missing, there are stability issues, handling of opening .torrents are problematic from finder when the app isn't already open, etc. A lot of basic options are missing in the Preferences to the point where it doesn't even one-up Transmission in any category.
Having used this program in its Windows version when a need a torrent client under that OS, You sir are not µTorrent, your just a bastardized port at this time. - DigitalDaiquiri, on 11/30/2008, -0/+5I enjoy Transmission on Linux myself.
- majorrick, on 11/30/2008, -1/+6Going by that logic... "games on a mac".
Most users who want a right-click buy another mouse. Honestly, it's not that hard. And don't complain about how 'macs require you to buy mice' since almost everyone i know uses an external mouse with their laptop, mac or not.
If the right-click thing is an issue for you, you either come in with a plan (external mouse) or get used to the trackpad.
Let this ***** 'no right click' meme die already. - InorganicMatter, on 11/30/2008, -4/+9I'm happy using Transmission: the lightweight, open-source client that DOESN'T send your usage statistics to the MPAA.
- inactive, on 11/30/2008, -1/+6Transmission
- aeiou, on 11/30/2008, -0/+5"trackpad != mouse rightclick
ever played a single videogame in your life?"
You play games with a trackpad?! - falafelkiosken, on 11/30/2008, -0/+4saying macs only have one button is like saying Windows has no GUI
- MrSlumberjack, on 11/30/2008, -2/+6@AirRaven
I've had the Might Mouse for over a year now, and it still works as if I just took it out of the package. - leamanc, on 11/30/2008, -0/+4Transmission minimizes to the taskbar just fine for me in Ubuntu 8.10. Did the same in 8.04, also.
- miggyb, on 11/30/2008, -1/+5You might want to torrent leopard. It's worth it.
- gkskillz, on 11/30/2008, -1/+5Just get ANY mouse from a non-Apple vendor, or a Mighty Mouse from Apple. It's not like OS X doesn't support right click or anything. This whole 1 button thing really needs to die. BTW, with trackpads, clicking with two fingers touching the trackpad is a right click new Apple notebooks (last two generations at least), so you don't have to worry about where your hand is, its the same motion regardless.
- MisterEThoughts, on 11/30/2008, -0/+3Well, finally.. However, I think it's a little to late... Their is a program called Transmission....
- chubbstar, on 11/30/2008, -0/+3except for options like "delete torrent + data" ... it doesnt delete the data.
annoying? yes. big deal? no. but id still like it native. - archer75, on 11/30/2008, -0/+3I love utorrent in windows, but I prefer transmission in OSX. However I would love to get unison in windows.
- timta2, on 11/30/2008, -0/+3Man I hate to say it but my car at home is so much faster than my car at work especially if I smoke a few crack rocks first. Sure she ain't pretty but I have a custom 500hp engine that I run 1000hp Nitrous with a Turbo and Supercharger. Man does that thing fly.
- harryterry, on 11/30/2008, -1/+4no

- Thorsten, on 11/30/2008, -0/+2wao, until today I loved azureus.
But it seems I was all wrong!!!
My arguments forn were:
1. Blocking IPs
2. Encryption
3. Categories
4. OpenSource
But Transmission has all that stuff!!!
I love it!!!
I think I am becoming a Switcher,switch to Transmission. Amazing!!! - inactive, on 11/30/2008, -1/+3No *****... victory over what? ***** idiot...
