- richman241, on 12/11/2007, -4/+31The greatest country on earth just got better.
- inactive, on 12/11/2007, -0/+27Finally a reason for the Apple Tv to exist in Canada. Seriously, its been a $300 podcast box until now.
- definetheline, on 12/11/2007, -0/+20Great, now even we can give iTunes more money. Dugg to support Canadians.
- dvandewalle, on 12/11/2007, -0/+14interested to see what Canadian content they offer, wouldn't mind a season pass to the Mercer Report or Corner Gas, never seem to catch them in first run.
- inactive, on 12/11/2007, -2/+13*****. finally.
- SilverRocket, on 12/11/2007, -1/+10Yes, but the nations' largest ISPs throttle the f*ck out of it.
- michaelyurechko, on 12/11/2007, -7/+16Great, now I can pay for crappy quality TV shows rather than download high-quality versions off Usenet! uggh.
- jawdog, on 12/11/2007, -0/+6Well that's exciting. It would be more exciting if there weren't a writers strike though.
- chongli, on 12/11/2007, -0/+5Rogers throttles all encrypted traffic. Encrypting your traffic will not help.
- Drax0n, on 12/11/2007, -0/+5NBC sucks. The only rerason the Office made it out of the first season was iTunes sales, it was a bomb on TV.
- TheRealDeal, on 12/11/2007, -0/+5Typical Digg comment. Why do diggers find it so appealing to be excessively negative?
- inactive, on 12/11/2007, -5/+10Buried as blogspam. Correct link:
http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2007/12/ ... - SilverRocket, on 12/11/2007, -0/+5Awesome, just in time for all those new TV episodes... oh wait, there's a writers strike, there won't be a new TV show until mid 2008!
- Drax0n, on 12/11/2007, -3/+7But at least you will be supporting the shows, aka part of the solution, instead of stealing them aka part of the problem. I have no problem paying for content as long as its convienent and in the end helps the artists (lets hope that writers strike works out)
- dibby1, on 12/11/2007, -1/+5Great news!....... but I'll stick to the pirate ship.
- phoomp, on 12/11/2007, -0/+4Ummm ... I've been quite able to use my AppleTV in Canada to watch TV and movies. PSP Video 9 and Handbrake FTW.
- phoomp, on 12/11/2007, -2/+6AppleTV and usenet are completely different things. There's nothing stopping usenet acquired content from being played on an AppleTV.
- pyrates, on 12/11/2007, -0/+4Give me the tv shows in HD or else I ain't buying.
- inactive, on 12/11/2007, -0/+4I never bought one. Read the comment a little more carefully.
- WiseWeasel, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3I know! God forbid you should have some choice in the market; that's too confusing!
- Sornos, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3I think there was a some sort of change in the legal system. Both iTunes and the XBL Marketplace are now offering movie/tv shows for download, in the same week. Coincidence?
- Speed, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3Oh yes they do. As soon as you start a torrent, everything slows down. Shaw makes your internet seem like dialup the second you start a BitTorrent.
- ahpro, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2First youtube releases their thing in the USA and canada, then iTunes does.
Why can't the rest of the world get things for a change! - Mathewh, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2a few top shows coming to canadian video store:
1) beachcombers
2) neon rider
3) forever knight
4) wayne and schuster
5) mr. dressup
6) friendly giant
7) the littlest hobo
8) wok with yan
9) seeing things
10) kids in the hall - Bootes, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2They both rely on the same companies to allow them to sell TV shows in Canada.
- LordSeth, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2But I want it in Australia!!!!!
- WiseWeasel, on 12/11/2007, -2/+4iTunes Video Store is useless, long live usenet.
TFTFY...
AppleTV is freaking awesome, for music playback, and for playback of DVDs and content ripped to H.264 AVC format, without having to ever touch a proprietary format or DRM. - abid786, on 12/12/2007, -0/+2Wok with Yan FTW! That man was amazing!
- UncleCrapper, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2Just in time for the writers strike.
- phronko, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2Genuine question: Does Bell throttle too? Or just Rogers?
(Oh, and you can easily get around Rogers' throttling by using a client that encrypts the bittorrent traffic) - alantocheri, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2You can download the Fifth Estate eps right from the CBC website (or at least stream them)
- rheaume, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1Enjoy your 27th century cell phones while we enjoy our bricks
- Speed, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1You can already get some CBC shows off iTunes via the podcasts section.
- Speed, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1In Canada, I think Fox News is a digital channel (if we get it at all), at least in Edmonton.
- themarq, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1That's why I asked the question, thanks for clearing it up (note that I didn't call you fanboy or an ass).
- WiseWeasel, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1That's what I do with mine in the US. That, and 95% of the time, I'm using it for music.
- ElectroBot, on 12/13/2007, -0/+1The Rub too.
Don't know if any Canadian writers/actors/producers/etc. will support them actively though. - Speed, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1Until the writers get a piece of the pie, I refuse to buy TV shows off iTunes and such.
- happyseamonster, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1Great! If a Bushie gets elected, I'll be moving there!
- WiseWeasel, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1Exactly, I'm in the US, and I wouldn't touch the iTunes Video downloads with a 10-foot pole. If they get rid of DRM, I'll consider it... 'Till then, usenet is my buddy. I don't mind giving my money for purchased downloads I can actually use as I see fit on any playback device.
- 8270369, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1Da Vinci's Inquest is probably in the top ten greatest television shows of all time, and anyone Canadian or not who has watched it for several episodes is ***** about it because it's just that good. Never jumped the shark and when its plug was pulled a lot of people were aghast. I think it'll be scandalous verily insulting to Canadians if it's not there on Canadian iTunes.
- ElectroBot, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1The levies were started before file sharing existed. They were meant to pay for tape (audio cassette) and CD copying.
- ElectroBot, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1When? In 2000? 2004? or 2008?
- mlerner, on 12/12/2007, -1/+2Too little, too late. BitTorrent FTW.
- jackmaninov, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1Here's hoping that the price of shows reflects the CAD and USD being nearly at par (just noticed that ours has dipped below recently).
- BlackStrain, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1Ya, my boy Brent ain't slowing down. Corner G for life.
- Mathewh, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1you're right - but kids in the hall and forever knight are pretty recent.
