Unlocking doesn't seem as hard as you people make it out to be.. - lex0nyc, on 10/10/2007, -3/+31blur your serial number, genius
- vh1`, on 10/10/2007, -0/+26I wish the headphones were sort-of like the ones from the iphone, allowing you to pause and change songs without having to take the device out
- Mystikal, on 10/10/2007, -4/+20DO WANT.
- KyjL, on 10/10/2007, -3/+19As much as I'd really want a Touch as much as the next person, WHY IS APPLE STILL PUTTING SHINY METAL ON THE BACK OF THEIR IPODS? The "oo/aah"-ability of the shiny metal disappears after a week of normal use.
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15And I wish the iPhone supported any type of headphones...that recessed input is lame.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15For what reason would you do this? So long as he has registered it already you can't really do much with it unless you have the actual device in your hands.
"OMG Apple my iPod touch broke down, its serial number is 7UXDFGOALKM1"
"Okay send it in to us"
"Ummm..."
The only people who need to blur serial numbers are those who are leaking things or those who can actually be identified by the serial number, not end users. - sonycam, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13I think that's called an iPhone? Might've heard of it before, it's on digg quite a lot. Don't you look stupid ;]
- humperdeath, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14I'm waiting about 2 months, then there will be a $100 price reduction. Gotta learn from past mistakes, ya know.
- pixelate, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Clearly. ("have")
- CraigJ, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Borat references are so 2006.
- LeeVal, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1428th
- Satanael, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I'm not exactly the biggest fan of Apple, but I'm having a hard time fathoming how much technology they packed into something so thin... Golf clap.
- rheaume, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Creepiest thing Ive read all day, thanks
- FredSanford, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9He's comparing it to the iPhone. If you read the article you'll see he has an iPhone and an iPod touch.
- phoomp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Exactly. That way you can "oo/aah" all over again when the next piece of shiny metal comes out in 6 months.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13www.apple.com, you retard.
- DanMiller, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10It already has been dropped, 249.99 for the 80gb and it's thinner and all metal.
- catachip, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Horray for your inability to even READ the article. He's comparing it to an iPhone; hence the AT&T in the top corner of the iPhone, while iPod is in the top corner of the iPod touch!
- Wandel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Right, the pictures didn't help. Reading the article, however, does:
"The Touch also does not support the iPhone's 'tap to skip' mic-integrated headphones." - indraneel24, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Enough? I had never heard of her until the iPod touch came around :-)
- theworldisround, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6No.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Go play with your Zune
- Matrix_Prime, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7I hope it means we'll get them sooner. My order still says it hasn't shipped yet though.
- PartlySean, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I just checked my order status on Apple.com and upon clicking the "Cancel Item" link (just for ***** and giggles) it told me this:
"Your item(s) have already been prepared for shipment, so they cannot be cancelled."
So maybe the Touch will be shipping out sooner than expected (for those of us who pre-ordered). - RooDoG, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Does this mean they are ready for shipping? Cant wait till mine arrives! I hope before October
- trelixus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I actually did that on purpose to my 3rd gen iPod. Gives it a brushed metal look if you do it right.
- Chicken2nite, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3If only they had some killer apps for it, like say, TextEdit.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I also bought an 80gb Classic to replace the 1st gen nano I've had for two years. This was the first HD iPod I've ever owned and the first thing I noticed was that the Gui was noticably slower than the previous model nanos. I also played with the new nano before making up my mind, but I was less than impressed with it. Video on that small screen was almost imposible to watch and cover flow made it slower as well. I saw some mock-ups of nanos with wide screen view when inverted that would have made a much better fit.
- theworldisround, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4So?
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5In Soviet Russia "Will it Borat" jokes reference YOU!
Oh God, please digg that down. - Darthmalt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3thats an iphone laying on top of the ipod to show size
- alexra, on 10/10/2007, -4/+6i got a 80gb ipod classic for 250 bucks, and its great, great , interface, games, video, sound quality, and its the size of a 30gb 5th gen, and the half and half screen i really like, i dont know why people dont like it, its great looking, and coverflow is great to, it loads a little slow, but not that slow, but i still like it a lot. i'm glad i made the choice to get a ipod classic, ill just wait a year untill they up the memory on the ipod touch.
- Yarnage, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You're somewhat wrong in your conclusion. I used to work for Apple's support and their agents are allowed to look up a device by serial number. From there, you can change any of that person's information (there is no policy on verifying someone's identity; they take your word for it) and cancel their AppleCare. As for the rest of your post, you're correct.
Of course, it depends on whether the device has been registered or not as to whether the serial number will bring up information (buying from the online store does it automatically) - piwy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's probably a loaner anyways. So no real incentive to blur the s/n.
- redmaxx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3That's an iPhone for comparison.
- teqonix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2From what I see it already *does* have a decent battery - replace decent with removable, and you have my vote.
Then again, I'm still getting one. So what the hell do I care. - cfizzo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1they won't, at least not this gen.
- vh1`, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1looking at pictures of unpacking an iphone and an ipod touch, you can see the headphones are different
iphone: http://content.techrepublic.com.com/2347-1035_11-93174-93191.html?seq=14
touch: http://images.appleinsider.com/ipod-touch-unpacking-20.jpg - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Although sadly Apple seems to have been ditching its best designs of late. Instead of keeping the iPod nano the lovely brushed metal all over they went and put that horrid scratch magnetic plastic on the back. The iPod classic would also have been so much cooler if it was rounded at the edges like the old iPod nano and had aluminium all over rather than the mirror finish.
I don't really like the direction they're going. First it was that hideous new iMac and now this? What are they going to do the next time they revise the MacBook Pro? Put a big black line around it for the hell of it?
Someone needs to tell the new intern at Apple to stop reading comics. - rayraym0fucka, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Thanks for the heads up. Maybe I'll go pick one up.
- S1ngular1ty1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2NO
- zaco, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1well... not yet
- asianswoosh, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1OOH God I'd hate being you man, a nano and a phone!!!
- EmperorAwesome, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2It just needs a doubler, like from Johnny Mnemonic.
- alexra, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1why dont does people who got a defective ipod classic just return it for one that works?, it just came out like a week ago.
- neffy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"From there, you can change any of that person's information (there is no policy on verifying someone's identity; they take your word for it) and cancel their AppleCare."
And then get fired when AppleCare reps get a call and look into why a customer's plan was cancelled. - Yarnage, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Your WPA Personal Network != Enterprise Network
- Scruffydan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2it will probably take much longer for the flash memory to catch up to the amount of storage available on the classic. I'm hoping they release a hard drive version of the touch
- c0d3z3r0, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I used one at the Apple Store, it feels nicer than the iPhone, web surfing on it is faster, I just wish they made a 32gb one.
