- solesoul, on 07/17/2008, -5/+42You've got the "classic" versions of the Blackberry still selling great, in addition to the Blackberry Thunder joining the touchscreen smartphone market. So no, I dont think that the Blackberry isn't going anywhere. Plus, businesses still use Blackberrys, and I doubt that the iPhone's apps are going to win them over.
- tadpole256, on 07/18/2008, -11/+34Windows mobile? Are you kidding me? It's such a huge piece of crap... I own a windows mobile based phone, and all I can say is this... A phone should never CRASH! But like all other Micro$oft products, this one does... a lot.
Windows mobile is a joke. - crazzy88ss, on 07/18/2008, -0/+23"... the most likely result is that both devices will simply continue to stomp the everliving bejesus out of Palm."
That line made my lol.

hmm.... - tadpole256, on 07/18/2008, -7/+25Like solesoul points out, blackberrys still have their own powerful niche. The iPhone has a special appeal to those who feel the need to be trendy, and stay on the "bleeding edge", but overall, I suspect that if you did a simple cost benefit analysis (admittedly, I have not), I think you will still find the Blackberry to be the better overall value, especially for the business customer.
I believe the main difference the iPhone will make will be to make "Smart Phones" more appealing to the common user, and therefore more ubiquitous. - Samtherocker, on 07/18/2008, -4/+22Why can't it be iPhone *and* Blackberry. What's wrong with Apple *and* Microsoft. I can't understand why it always has to be a fight...
Cheer up people they're both good, no need for all the hate :) - vault, on 07/18/2008, -11/+28The iPhone ruined the Apple category on digg.
- thejacknut, on 07/18/2008, -3/+19iPhone vs. Blackberry... blah, blah, blah. Do we really need to get emotionally invested in the product of our purchase to simply justify the amount of money we paid for it to ourselves? "My Jeep Cherokee is better than your Chevy Blazer. Nah, nah, na-boo, boooo..."
Who gives a *****? I personally rock the (and I'm proud now to be able to use the term) old-school iPhone and it's decent. Just the other day, while listening to Clutch, I used it to check a text from Jesus, who warned me of an interdimensional time traveller that was sneaking up on me to steal my Oreos. I was forced to use my trusty PDA-of-choice to vaporize him on the spot.
It works in a pinch. Not sure if the Blackberry does that. But if it doesn't, it should. - mikephimikephi, on 07/18/2008, -5/+20ruined digg apple category the
- pintomp3, on 07/18/2008, -1/+13why isn't there room for both? what's wrong with some healthy competition? it's not like everyone drives the same car.
- NecroSexy, on 07/18/2008, -1/+12You must be blast at family get-togethers!

- StanleyKoolPrik, on 07/18/2008, -8/+18Android will drink your milkshakes!
- DaffyDuck, on 07/18/2008, -3/+13Agree. I traded a Windows Mobile phone (Audiovox SMT5600) that I owned for 3 years for an iPhone. What a piece of crap that was.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1eFdUSnaQM - Spanq, on 07/18/2008, -3/+11RIM needs to get the Blackberry 4.5 OS out already.
- RedHerringHack, on 07/18/2008, -4/+12I carry both all day every day. They both equally suck.
- inactive, on 07/18/2008, -1/+8my business had a presentation by apple about the iphone, and they are seriously considering supporting it because of blackberry's nasty licensing scheme that iphones don't have.
- childoftheatom, on 07/18/2008, -1/+8you're bitter.
- budsstud26, on 07/18/2008, -4/+11double negative FTW!
Of course Blackberry isn't going anywhere, but I bet Apple beats their market share in less than 36 months. - meghalc, on 07/18/2008, -2/+8", the main force behind RIM's recent success in the market has been lack of competition rather than innovation, and he seems to think it's all over now that the iPhone 3G is (sort of) available. "
Did this guy forget? There are lots of enterprise users who use pocket pc phones to get their emails? Not everyone uses a blackberry! - deMonkey, on 07/18/2008, -3/+9http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=ip ...
(I own an iphone btw) - Schrodinger2, on 07/18/2008, -2/+8pull that scrotum out of your mouth.
- meghalc, on 07/18/2008, -6/+12I just put in 8gb microsd card in my Blackberry curve. It cost me $40 shipped.
:) - vassar, on 07/18/2008, -1/+6My WinMobile Verizon phone fell into the toilet last year and I could not have been happier
- mmijatov, on 07/18/2008, -7/+12After spending a significant amount of time (about an hour in this case) using a T-Mobile Wing with Windows Mobile 6, I wanted to throw the piece of ***** out the window. Total and complete garbage.
- santaliqueur, on 07/18/2008, -3/+8Must be nice, anyone who doesn't agree with you gets called a fanboy. Windows Mobile sucks.
- bone625, on 07/18/2008, -1/+6But iPhone will make you abandon your child.
- soldeejay, on 07/18/2008, -1/+5I don't understand why people are so quick to get in debates about these two phones.
While obviously they share the same market (and in that respect, are competitors), the difference is between fun and functional.
I just ordered an Iphone and I'm stoked about it, but I'm very aware that if I wanted something with more function that there are other phones/devices out there. - xthrawnx, on 07/18/2008, -1/+5I detect DOUCHE BAG. With their shift-lock on.
- lordtyros, on 07/18/2008, -2/+6My 3G iPhone has crashed a few times...
Of course, it restarted itself without my intervention, but still. It happens. - awp0, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4Well, if by "cost effectively" you mean "stop paying the ridiculous licensing fees for Blackberry Enterprise Server and let the iPhone receive push mail from Exchange for free"......
- thcobbs, on 07/18/2008, -1/+5I had a windows mobile phone and it was EXTREMELY annoying to use and downright sluggish. When my company bought me a blackberry curve, I've never looked back.
Its stable as hell.
It gets email faster than my desktop outlook client.
It does everything I want it to.
I've dropped it several times and its still is running like a champ.
Its got the best keyboard I've ever used on a mobile device.
In short, there's a good reason its called a crackberry. - MacParrot, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4How awful it must be to be 12 years old and so stupid. Your AOL account should be removed immediately
- jonthefisherman, on 07/18/2008, -1/+5I am so glad to be rid of the Tilt peace of *****
had to reboot at least once a day
Windows Moblie SSSSSuuucks
Blackberries and the iPhone are both good devices
BTW Pandora FTW! - Galaxylander, on 07/18/2008, -3/+7Apple is going to try to appeal to businesses sure, but the iPhone is a consumer product first and foremost and Apple knows that! The BlackBerry is not a consumer product, it is directed at businesses and businesses alone.
The iPhone will succeed greatly in the consumer market, and fairly in the business market. The BlackBerry will succeed greatly in the business market but fairly in the consumer market.
Now stop bitching, because your HTC phone sucks and you only like it because you bought it and don't have a choice but to use it.
kthx - klitzbtc, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4If anyone is curious to what the blackberry thunder is going to look like ...
http://crackberry.com/exclusive-first-live-pics-bl ... - pensel, on 07/18/2008, -8/+11The Apple category ruined digg.
- schumacc, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3The amount of utter BS in these threads is just remarkable. I bet the vast majority of the iPhone critics do not even have first hand experience living with the iPhone. I've worked in IT for 20 years now. I was the first one to get an iPhone in our IT department last year when the iPhone launched. We now have at least 20 in our department alone; the iPhone being the choice of career IT professionals at the large university I work at. All of the upper management want iPhones or already have them. They know about the Blackberry but the choice is a no-brainer. It is not just the phone itself it is the entire iPhone, iTunes, App Store trinity. It is the sublime user experience, the UI, the intuitiveness and just overall superior usability in using and managing your phone. The inroads that Apple has made into the market in just the last year alone are astounding. A new comer to the cell phone industry dealing significant blows to companies who's primary niche product is the cell phone. The iPhone fits seamlessly into your digital life. Something the other competitors have just neglected or been unable to replicate. They should all be afraid. Very, very afraid.
- Niz1, on 07/18/2008, -1/+4yeh thats the image i have of the blackberry, blackberry have already made an image for themselves in the business sector, and those who aren't as tech savy in the business sector still use the 6210, 6310.
- awp0, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3@CptCoolguy
Almost $40k for a 400-person company for software that sits between your Exchange server and your workers' mobile phones could easily be perceived as wastefully expensive considering that push email is now natively supported in all iPhones and Windows Mobiles, and the cost of Blackberry hardware and service plans already compares to that of iPhone and WM. I mean why pay extra when these features come for free now from most other vendors?
At the very least I'd expect the competition to make this kind of functionality much cheaper for everyone. Blackberries aren't "magic" anymore and they'll need to drop these license fees to compete (IMO). - darkciti2, on 07/18/2008, -1/+4A huge established base of mostly sales/marketing guys that have been dying for an easy to use interface.
That is where the iPhone is going to clobber Blackberry.
Sales is a profit center. IT is a cost center.
From an operations standpoint, if the sales team wants/needs something, it will be up to IT to make it happen (in any company with hopes of longevity [aside from tech companies]). - awp0, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3I'm a business user and I have both a Blackberry and an iPhone, connecting into my company's Exchange mail/calendar system. I don't use the Blackberry anymore. With the recent iPhone/Exchange integration I'd question how/why Blackberry is a better overall value for business users especially when you pay per-device licensing fees to Blackberry and you have to manage the Blackberry Enterprise Server which is unnecessary for Windows Mobile and iPhone.
- OliveStreet, on 07/18/2008, -1/+4Dugg for the picture
- JKAL, on 07/18/2008, -1/+3yup, until you can easily and cost effectively migrate from Blackberry enterprise infrastucture to an iPhone enterprise one, then Blackberry will still dominate the business market.
iPhone is technically superior however it is still just a high end gadget, with the market condition right now, no company will spend millions on integrating yet another piece of technology, when Blackberry does what they need as it is. - danielwsmithee, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2There is not much to migrate. Companies already have all the infrastructure they need. Our company doesn't support the iPhone but it took me all of 5 minutes to get my iPhone set up for push email, contacts, and calendar.
- lordsandwich, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2Better overall value? For business users, most certainly, but the iPhone is half smartphone, half iPod. Most consumers would find that to be a much bigger deal.
- SmeeegHeeed, on 07/18/2008, -4/+6by that rationale, perhaps you'd like to ask all the Apple fanboys unquestionably proclaiming that the iPhone is better than every other phone that exists for any purpose.
i thought not.... then shut up - adairnic, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2Really suprising that RIM has more market share in Canada...considering iPhone 3G went on sale a week ago.
You were kidding right? - inactive, on 07/18/2008, -1/+3LoL..."WE'RE" fanbois?
- lordsandwich, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2Well, as of iPhone firmware 2.0 you can add lagging and crashing to the list. Though WinMo is still clearly superior at that.
