- RogerStrong, on 10/10/2007, -6/+13Is there anyone who *didn't* think it was a hoax?
- MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -10/+17Who ever believed it was real needs brain surgery.
- imikedaman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5North Denver News runs a lot of parody articles. This is one of them.
- kris33, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Thumbs up for the man behind the story!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6thats not as much fun when you say it out loud
- amnesiac096, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I'm really liking the North Denver News website...they used Joomla, then just changed the banner, really makes for a credible looking site, sure they may be credible, but they don't look the part whatsoever.
- mattjumbo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I believed it completely. My friends and I sat around at dinner Friday night trying to imagine why someone would do that to themselves. In an era where people have fat injected into their lips and botulism injected into their faces, *intentionally*, you are going to have to work harder that that to do unrealistic comedy. Satire isn't satire if, within a societal context, the idea being discussed isn't all that insane.
- uaioe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2A story is written in a real journalistic style, at a real news source, about something that, while it might seem ridiculous, isn't any more ridiculous than, say... "Bush voted in for second term"
I agree this was a terrible attempt at satire. The fact that the retraction is printed in this snarky, sarcastic style doesn't help either. Communication is the responsibility of both the sender and receiver of a message: If your message is widely misinterpreted by a large number of people... you need to take some responsibility for not communicating your message clearly enough. - eshep23, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2this is my surprised face :|
- streak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Well, now you know it wasn't really real.
- streak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That's laughable.
- Alegoo92, on 10/10/2007, -6/+8Who grasped the satire? It wasn't that well done if supposed to be obvious..
- sv650touring, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No matter how thickly you lay it on, Digg users absolutely require the sarcasm tag to detect it
[/Utter disbelief]
"My ego will be crushed"?
[/Blank stare] - dezent, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1this is the internet.. or teh tubez if you like..
iPhone thumb surgery IS NOT the strangest thing here that could be true.
Stupid hoax, we've seen worse. - WeeklyGeek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1who in the world actually believed that?
- OrangeTide, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I know a guy who knows a guy who has an ADB port in place of his pinky finger, and has a prosthetic pinky that attaches to the port. I also know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy who had his bellybutton pierced with a G5 silicon wafer.
None of this I know someone who would consider it BS. I know people who know people who have done it, or read about it on the internet or read about a guy saying he knows someone who considered it. - Jakyll, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3http://www.snopes.com/humor/iftrue/iphonethumb.asp
- lesty420, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4I never knew about this until now
- shadowspawn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Hey, I fell for that Metallica hoax with chords E and F. Fell hard, because it *does* seem like something they would do.
- OrangeTide, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1People are overlooking that HUMOR is supposed to be funny.
- wilhoitm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Size doesn't matter! ;-)
- MrBlackthorne, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I actually had a USB port surgically constructed on the back of my head so I could interact better with my G3. Now that I own a MacBook Pro, I'm going to be having a second surgery to update my head to USB 2.0. I'm really looking forward to it.
- viperedge, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1suprised people thought it was real in the first place
- edwartica, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1All in favor of changing the pronunciation of the word Faux?
- phatduckk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0thank god. it would suck to think someone would actually do something that crazy over a phone. sure, maybe, its a rad phone - but still, its a phone
- OkydOky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Or you can use that brain of yours and Figure it out yourself it was fake -- doesn't take a Rocket Scientist to figure it out..
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0ya think?
- omnis, on 10/10/2007, -6/+6All you need to do is put "iPhone" in your title and you make the front page.
- mlostracco, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2You must not be a subscriber to Duh! Magazine then, where the story first appeared.
- 1337freek, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1well i was suckered in to believing it, i mean cmon, who wouldnt whittle down their thumbs if they werent able to use the god-phone properly!
- landohlakes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Thumb surgeons everywhere are disappointed that the truth it now out.
- missingperson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0The site of a man stroking his phone is just gross.
- edwartica, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0And knowing is half the battle! Yo Joe!
- mrurc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0It does suck to think that people would do that but people suck. That people are stupid is pretty believable.
It wasn't funny; it did not seem satirical and the explanations of why we should have known are outright lies. The explanation includes that the article says that plastic surgery is only for vanity, but article never states that plastic surgery is only for vanity, just that it is for vanity, which is true. I could write a ten page paper on why the explanation is bogus easier than I could write a 1 page paper on why the original article is.
I know people who have jokingly threatened to have this done for the exact reasons stated and I know people who honestly would do this, so that it would happen is completely believable. My friends, however have some sense so they bought Sidekicks instead. - edwartica, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0And you have your finger on the pulse of the typo.
- OrangeTide, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1What is wrong with Fox that isn't also wrong with most other American news outlets? Why does Fox have such a special place in your heart?
- fiorenza, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2I know some Mac fans who would consider plastic surgery to interact better with Apple products.
- feckineejit, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3I didn't think it was a hoax, and now I'll never believe anything from the NorthDenverNews again, because it wasn't presented as HUMOR. you can't come back a week later and say it was. jerks.
- streak, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Hey, I believed it was "whittling" because, after all, it's the North Denver News. Even if a reporter would know better, a paper has to reach out to its readership! Looks like a name change is in order now, though, perhaps to the North Denver Faux News.
- tubeblender, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0I guess you do mind then.
- tubeblender, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0Then you won't mind if I digg him up and you down.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0Made-up by nothing else but an Apple Fanboy.....
- edwartica, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0I pretty much bury any article that says anything about the I-phone. Its not like its the second coming of Christ!
- sv650touring, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2***** the digg comment section. ***** it in its ***** ass. I corrected that comment, it didn't take, and now my ego is going to be crushed by a million negative diggs.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0Apple fanboy to the extreme hoax!
- edwartica, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0Umm, anyone with a brain!
- sv650touring, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2You've really gotrgot your finger on the Digg pulse, don't you. With such insiteful comments
- Lemm, on 10/10/2007, -11/+6He just called Fox news Faux news. Dugg.
