- jamesrdorn, on 07/18/2008, -6/+36Ordered mine today, AT&T told me 15 to 25 days... that's just sad.
I just spent $350 hard earned dollars, and all I got was this lousy receipt and business card... - danj321, on 07/18/2008, -2/+21Ordered it the 14th, clerk told me 7-10 days from then... Starting to sound like a lie.
- jonmlm, on 07/19/2008, -1/+14boo hoo. 1st world problems.
- littleodie914, on 07/19/2008, -2/+14Causing major delays for businesses? Seriously? Why are businesses basing their productivity around a PHONE?
- ajb2015, on 07/19/2008, -1/+11you are cool.
- inactive, on 07/19/2008, -1/+10Two weeks without a cell phone! Whatever will people do! We only made it a couple million years without cell phones.
- lolupissed, on 07/19/2008, -4/+12Good thing I stood in line for two hours last Sunday to get mine.
You guys are aware that apple has a stock checker on their website though right?
http://www.apple.com/retail/iphone/availability.ht ... - inactive, on 07/18/2008, -8/+16So this is sort of retroactive rationalization for the doucheboys standing in line....
- antonio97b, on 07/19/2008, -10/+18You should have gotten a shirt that read "I paid $350 and all I got was a larger bill, and an overpriced phone. Well, I'll get the phone in 2-4 weeks."
- inactive, on 07/19/2008, -0/+8Who gives a ***** about cut & paste, when there are still no categories for notes, no to-do lists with categories, no E-mail filters, no continual reminders for voice mail or texts...
Get your priorities straight.
Oh, and the Mac IS a PC. Always has been. - deadbaby, on 07/20/2008, -0/+6TWO WEEKS? OMG! If I can't have it right now I don't want it at all. Stupid factories. Can you push your slave workers a little harder?
- mugicha, on 07/20/2008, -0/+6Dear god, how did the world exist for 4 billion years without this thing?
- Socram, on 07/19/2008, -3/+9Don't worry... the factory is pumping them out 24/7... the wait won't be too long. More importantly, it's just a phone... you've made it that long without one, a few more days is not going to change anything.

Dear mehrdotcom,
GET A LIFE
thanks for the money,
Steve Jobs - derrickgossman, on 07/20/2008, -0/+5Dugg down for stating my order status?
- Sal4, on 07/18/2008, -2/+74 to 6 weeks here in the Netherlands. I mean sure, we only pay 1 euro to get one with a new account with unlimited data, but still. Suckage! I guess we're lower down on the list of countries who get them...
- mehrdotcom, on 07/19/2008, -2/+7I sent the following letter directly to Steve Jobs yesterday,
Dear Steve Jobs,
I hope the iPhone 3G sale is going well.
I have been a PC user for almost ten years and recently bought a Mac to develop iPhone applications. Since iPhone released, I have been calling Apple stores in Austin, TX every morning and checking the retail website every night at 9pm but never got a chance to get one.
Every time I called Apple store, one of the sales person told me that the iPhone was sold out today in 2 hours! And when I asked if the iPhone was available today, why did not you update your website?! I was told that “we do not have any access to the retail website.”
As a new customer to Apple, I am very disappointed that your sales people proudly tell customers that we were sold out in two hours and if you have complain, contact Apple customer service.
Thanks - Dracusis, on 07/20/2008, -0/+5Usable access to the company extranet on a handset and it has a mobile SDK that's fast to develop for and easy to deploy.
- Dracusis, on 07/20/2008, -0/+4Apple will never ~give~ you anything. I'm sure they've got someone working on a way to charge people for waiting in line as I type.
- AmusedToDeath, on 07/20/2008, -1/+5@antonio97b: I've had the tilt for about a year. Trust me, after your 3,999th crash/freeze/reboot you'll be begging for something that works as well as the iPhone. Touchflo is ok, but laggy, slow and imprecise. What apple really got right on the iPhone was perfecting the touchscreen sensitivity. No matter what adjustments I made on my tilt, it never worked as well as the iPhone.
- user500, on 07/20/2008, -0/+4well at least a well marketed one
- krnldmp, on 07/19/2008, -3/+7I guess you'll all have to wait until next week to rub your uglies with a new iPhone. They'll take your money now, though.
- digiguy, on 07/19/2008, -1/+5You should have included, where the hell is cut&paste and flash
- lordtyros, on 07/20/2008, -0/+4That's how we roll, *****
- lemonkey, on 07/20/2008, -0/+4I hear the wait times are much shorter for the white model.
- inactive, on 07/20/2008, -0/+3I just explained it was about quarterly earnings - that whole concept must be over your head.
Take a business class and you'll see how this makes sense.
It's the new fad. Trust me, more companies will start doing this in the future.
They don't need to worry about pissing off potential customers because they're driving up artificial hype. That's the whole point. It's psychological. - derrickgossman, on 07/20/2008, -0/+3That could be -- I did order the white one.
- Socram, on 07/19/2008, -4/+7No, it's not. The difference is the developer community that is creating new applications for the iPhone. The functionality of the iPhone will continue to change and advance as more applications are released. While I'm sure the HTC Tilt is a great piece of hardware, I doubt the software functionality will be nearly as dynamic. I'm not saying buying it was a mistake, but to say that it is 'just as functional' is not true.
- theculchie1, on 07/19/2008, -1/+4All HTCs smart phones run Windows Mobile.
There is a huge amount of apps for it an a very active developer community.
iPhones' community is still small. - Gee1004, on 07/19/2008, -2/+5When will Apple give us t-shirts that say, "I waited 5 hours in line for an iPhone"?
- inactive, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3Considering each store will only get 5-10 units a week, it's pretty believable.
- bigbadgoat, on 07/20/2008, -1/+4A $300 phone causes more envy than a $70K car?
are you on crack? - sockpuppets, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3Something being "rare" makes it more desirable to consumers.
- crowbar77, on 07/19/2008, -0/+32 weeks... THATS 14 DAYS. OH NOES.
- Speed, on 07/20/2008, -0/+3It's complimentary with AT&T? *****, Rogers charges us $7/month for that!
- aserer511, on 07/20/2008, -0/+3"I have an enterprise account and could not get an iPhone for any price," one such buyer tells AppleInsider. "I thought Apple had finally figured out the whole business thing but alas it seems not."
A sign from God you should just get a damn WM6 phone. - megamod, on 07/20/2008, -0/+3If you pre-ordered they'll only charge you for it once your particular iphone has been shipped.
- Speed, on 07/20/2008, -0/+3***** racists.
/s - umbrellainabin, on 07/19/2008, -1/+4At least it takes people's minds off the MobileMe crisis eh?
- e2superman, on 07/20/2008, -0/+3What business will use an iPhone. Name one over 1k employees in size that actually replaces their blackberries with this. Give me a Break.
- theculchie1, on 07/19/2008, -2/+5I'm trying to figure out what businesses require an iPhone for.
A thin client type app that talks to their business servers? Windows mobile is probably the easiest platform. Tried and tested.
Email on the go? Blackberry have this sown up. Windows mobile and pushmail/active sync to a lesser degree.
I'm really struggling to think of any feature the iPhone will provide that hasn't already been done to death on one of the other platforms.
Can any iPhone experts set me straight? - Sandtiger, on 07/19/2008, -1/+4It's intentional for a number of reasons...
1) Limited supply increases sales and must have mood among customers
2) limits exposure to over saturation of market
3) limits expense exposure due to excess inventory
4) if they sell all their current inventory quickly they get the revenue just a quickly - SenorCardgage74, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2It's totally unncessary for me to type my laughs in after ajb2015's comment but ***** it....
Bwahahahahaah - dagr8tim, on 07/19/2008, -2/+4Hopefully, your not being charged for the time you wait for the phone to arrive & be activated.
- Speed, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2Yes, because using this strategy just KILLS companies, I mean look at the lackluster sales Nintendo has had with the Wii
/s
Oh wait... - derrickgossman, on 07/19/2008, -3/+5I ordered mine last week, and they told me 10-21 days. It shipped within 3, and it will be waiting for me at the store to pick up on Monday.
- Dimyeyes, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2ooooo she has one and you don't? That must burrrn!
- ronmexico, on 07/20/2008, -1/+3That's just not rational thinking. Demand was already built up, no need to create it. The only thing they have to gain by not producing enough iPhones is losing sales to competitors. Let's say Apple began making the phones a month before launch. If the factories ran 24 hours a day they would need to make 8,333 phones per hour to make what was sold the first week. That's a lot. The shortages are not intentional.
- BIGBEN363, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2I'm sorry, but I'm not understanding what your problem is. Shipments are obviously coming in the late morning/early afternoon, demand is incredibly high, and the websites are updated nightly. Why would you be disappointed that the sales people are telling you that they sold out, given that they are? Or that customer service is the place to call for complaints?
- lupicite, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2Does anyone realize that it is just a cell phone? Ok, it does cool things, but really.. I want something that I can call people on and have some calendar entries on. My Blackjack does that. It does 3G. It was manufactured near the end of 2006.
