- charlesnorbert, on 10/12/2007, -9/+100Seeing as this is from Brian Lam himself, I give this a 6 out of 10 on relative truthiness. He believes, but no absolute truthiness.
- TruthElixirX, on 10/12/2007, -9/+98Chuck Norris dies.
- jordansampson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+73I will have to out preform you... if this is correct i will blend my blendtec blender.... what happens when an immovable object meets an unstoppable force!!!!!!!!
- CursorTN, on 10/12/2007, -11/+75I call BS. No way is it smart for Apple to announce this right as holiday shoppers are reaching fever-pitch over the iPod for their MP3-playing loved ones. This would cannibalize their Q4 sales, and I just don't see that happening.
We MIGHT see a leak come out on Monday, but my prediction is not an official announcement. Apple isn't that dumb. - Gdoubleod, on 10/12/2007, -6/+58If he is wrong he will be flamed by everyone on the internet I guarantee it!
- primehifi, on 10/12/2007, -6/+55They may announce it, yes. Release it, no.
And, tho that may not make sense at first, think about how many people will put off buying phones this xmas if they know iPhone is coming out in January/February.
Perhaps apple just isn't ready yet. - Robertsk8, on 10/12/2007, -4/+40I don't know if I feel like reading it all.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+38That IS the longest blog post ever!
- doctabu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35Well here's a quick summary if you don't want to read the entire thing:
Gizmodo, a well known gadget blog, updates their page on a regular basis with new and interesting gadget news. From computers to cell phones, they always are reviewing or previewing the newest cool products. This specific post is by Brian Lam, who tends to post more about gadget-related news rather than gadget releases themselves. He goes into great detail about when he thinks the new "iPhone," the propietary name given to the greatly-rumored cellphone by Apple Computer, will be released soon. Not only is it soon, but it happens to be this upcoming Monday, December 18. He also expands upon it by saying he quote "guarantees it," and that it "wasn't what [he] expected at all" (Lam 1). This could mean it is a new form factor or the release could be entirely different. Nobody really knows for sure. And, he seems to have spoken quite a bit extra. -DoctaBu

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+32I am very intrigued...nearly getting a raging clue.
- charlesnorbert, on 10/12/2007, -7/+32If he is right, I will blend my Treo 650 in my insinkerator. Truthiness hurts.
- rjp_wayne2018, on 10/12/2007, -9/+33iPhone on my birthday?? Apple, you shouldnt have!
- D4r7h3v1l, on 10/12/2007, -11/+32Summary plz?
:) - Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20If you blend a BlendTec blender IN a BlendTec blender, a vortex into the future is opened.
- livetheride, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17Why are you all digging primehifi down? This makes perfect sense:
Daddy wants to buy little Susy a new cellphone for Christmas. Daddy hears that there is going to be an iPhone. An iPod and a cellphone? In one? That's a twofer! Suzy can wait until next year. - iching, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15Vegas bookies are taking 5 to 10 on the on the bet that it is a no show.
- greatblackowl, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14Brian Lam, a journalist for the popular technology website Gizmodo, announced earlier today that the iPhone will show itself on Monday, December 18th. He seems absolutely confident with this prediction, to the point where he "guarantees" it. Lam offered no further comment, except that is was different than he expected. Lam ended the article declaring he had already said too much.
- Chewie67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Anyone want to bet? I'll be happy to take your money...
- jandsroberts, on 10/12/2007, -10/+16Doesn't Apple usually sent out PR special invites before they make a big announcement?
- michaelb1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9"If you blend a BlendTec blender IN a BlendTec blender, a vortex into the future is opened"
Not true, I have seen what happens when this abomination is allowed to happen.
The BlendTec inside the BlendTec would be blended, then as the magnitute of what just happened sets in, the remaining Blendtec would fall into a state of manic depression mixed with utter despair caused by the realization of the forced cannibalization that just occured.
The remaining blendtech would blend itself from the inside out. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6No it hasn't you idiot, its still there.
- robbfladry, on 05/12/2008, -6/+11Yeah.. if it happens (and happens to be available on Verizon).. my Moto Q is getting thrown in the river.. and I'll be videotaping it.
*Said throwing will only occur after I have iPhone in my hand* - michaelb1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5it would not cannibalize any of their Q4 sales.
People in the know have put off all buying decisions have been put on hold anyway due to the widespread belief that the iPhone will be announced in Jan.
The damage is already done. They might as well announce it and take advantage of the HUGE holiday publicity storm.
I think it would be an ANNOUNCEMENT, not for sale. If it was in stores on monday it would already be leaked. - aprocter, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8heh, its my birthday too! happy birthday dude! :-P
- mugdecoffee, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7And for me as well! Fortunatly we have Christmas still to receive one.
- wastern, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I don't see why they wouldn't wait until MacWorld. Its too late to get people before the holidays now
- jutendouji, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8^^^
I lol'd. - colol, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Not entirely true.
If an existing, certified radio package is used in compliance with regulations, no additional certification of the combined device is needed. There are many, many off-the-shelf radios that could be integrated into a new device like the iPhone with no further bureaucracy needed. - Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5..that is the question?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6B.S
- mobilehavoc, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Guess Brian wanted some ad revenue for Gizmodo - this is probably the easiest way to get it from Digg...so lame. buried.
- akatsuki, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Hmmmm... still no FCC filing surfacing yet. So unless they have managed to slip it by or get a confidential filing (I don't know if they will do that or not), seems unlikely. Of course I will buy one instantly, and if they don't announce soon, I may get a Helio.
- norcalscan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Uhh that would be TUESDAY Jan 9th for the keynote.
(hey, I didn't correct any spelling, grammar or call it a dupe!) - teknobryan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2well it's monday.....
- sketch22, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5The FCC will have to approve this phone which can be a lengthy public process. This announcement might be Apple introducing the phone before submitting it to the FCC for review.
- dtrinh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3read the titles / content of the current gizmodo posts ... seems a wee bit out of the sarcastic ordinary :)
- ShaneApex, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6I was planning on getting a new phone this weekend, but will now hold off and wait to hear what the deal is on Monday.
- ryanschmidt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yea, it's monday and not a word. GOOD ONE GIZMODO.
- jwk3114, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey Ryan, Gizmodo was right. The iPhone was introduced today by Cisco. He never said in the article that Apple would be releasing it. People should pay more attention to things they read and not just assume things.
- d00d, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Pete, please turn in your Apple fan club card. You clearly don't belong. Thinking the keynote is on Monday... geez.
- DPimp1262, on 10/12/2007, -9/+10@tocircuswn I agree completely. It always happens with apple. Their defining trait of being so secretive is often one of the biggest problems. Although sometimes the rumors hold merit we often are met with random assumptions and guesses as to what apple is going to create next and when they don't hold up to the expectation they always get attacked for it. Take the latest revision to the ipod. People were going nuts right before hand over how it would be touch screen with mind control and it would do your dishes and what have you. What do we get. A price drop, and upgrade, new nanos and a phenominal new shuffle. The internet was in an outrage for weeks!
Now sorry for the rant but about this iphone. Lets look at apple's track history and remember one thing. Steve is running the show and he hates complicated devises. Many of these iPhone renditions have been uber powerful and uber specialized and my problem is that I doubt that if apple ever went iphone that I can't see them going that route. I mean for christ sake they just added fm to the mix with the 5th gen ipods and it was an addon. The ipod is meant to be so simple that adding fm is too many features in box. And you know what I like it that way. That's the ipod's charm. That's apple's charm and I just can't see how they can get away with that with a phone because frankly there already are simple phones out there. The people that buy them don't want it any more complicated. Look at the razr for an example. That phone has had update upon update with the v3i the v3x the krazr and god knows what else and you know what? I bet most people don't even know that the verizon phone is more powerful then the base cingular phone. (granted to those that do have the more powerful phones and use them to the fullest more power to you. You were the ones the phone was designed for).
The only and I mean only way that I could see the iphone being a successful phone is if it was an uber simple itunes phone that synced perfectly with all music, contacts and whatnot on your computer via bluetooth. I don't see it having a keyboard, or a 10 megapixel camera, or a touch screen. It's just not how a company that still makes laptops with one button trackpads does buisness. I don't want that to change. That's what I love about that company. - DucksofAnaheim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1http://www.mobilport.hu/?r=8266
- cpbrown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Apple releases on TUESDAYS. fools. nothing will come on a monday.
- dmerc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This is probably a little more truthy...
http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/12/20061213162456.shtml - lasvegas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Announcing it now could actually increase iPod sales... I (and possibly many other people) are holding off buying an iPod just to see if the iPhone is better
So if on Monday they announce the iPhone and it wont be released for 6-8months, people won't hold off on buying an iPod. - acidhash, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1My iMac can't wait for a beasty iPhone.
- MrViklund, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Marked as Lame. Lame by gizmodo. If you are going to report something then do it, not just try to draw traffic...
- norbiu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Exactly! They will probably announce it, but don't get your hopes up for a Christmas release. There is no way that could happen.
- twilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1dude, the iPhone's purpose is for consolidation, to get rid of 2 bulky items in your pocket and to shape up into one trim device.
