- dasheel, on 10/11/2007, -30/+210Apple apologizes to all 27 of you.
- Hortnon, on 10/11/2007, -62/+231Apple...not being compatible with something? I'm shocked!
/sarcasm - smurf22, on 11/14/2007, -69/+225People actually use 64 bit Vista expecting it to be compatible? Hell the ZUNE isnt compatible with 64 bit Vista.
- squirrel83, on 10/11/2007, -54/+140I'm to the point where there is no way I am going to purchase this phone, may I ask again why is it not 3g?
- flamingmb, on 10/11/2007, -24/+99Because you touch yourself at night.
- kidjay, on 10/11/2007, -34/+94can we name something that does work with 64 bit xp/vista? i mean...remember that the ***** zune didnt work with vista at first. support is coming i guarantee.
- mushroom, on 10/11/2007, -16/+62OSX is also a tiny section of the market why should Apple support OSX?
- Miniman, on 10/11/2007, -12/+56But... it is?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -28/+70Overpriced, overhyped
- afruff23, on 10/11/2007, -7/+35Well, everything works for me on my XP 64-bit except my scanner but that thing is about 8 years old when AOL dominated the market.
- marcusb, on 10/11/2007, -9/+36Let's see, from my PC alone which runs Windows Vista 64-bit: iPod, HP Photosmart 8250, Samsung ML1740, Belkin F8T001 Bluetooth Adapter, Dynex 802.11g PCI card (broadcom chipset), and the Creative Labs X-FI sound card. With the exceptions of the X-FI and two printers, all devices have worked since day one- Windows took care of the drivers. The rest I just needed a download from the manufacturers and again they have worked since day one. The iPod even worked, although iTunes was a little flaky.
- althe3rduww, on 10/11/2007, -37/+62I gurantee anyone who is yelling about it being on EDGE, not compatible with 64 bit xp, or the fact that it doesn't have a physical keyboard HAS NEVER TRIED ONE.
1. EDGE on the iphone is giving me speeds of 240kbps downloads, easily the same I was seeing on my 3g phone.
2. Most products are not compatible with 64 bit xp or vista, so get over it. You knew what you were getting yourself into when you bought the 64 bit version.
3. The keyboard actually works quite well, I am typing with two thumbs just as quick as I did on my treo in just a matter of minutes of first using it. - Noctem, on 10/11/2007, -7/+30Obviously, not many of you have ever used 64-bit Vista. I've been running it since January on 2 different systems, one of which is an Intel C2D box I built myself.
Hardware that I've had problems with? None.
Software that I've had problems with? None.
So get over this "0mg 64bit windoze sux id nevar use it!!!" argument backed up with exactly zero facts. Someone is complaining that a _Handspring_ doesn't work in Vista 64?! They haven't been in business since they got bought by Palm in what, 2000?! - angel0, on 10/11/2007, -9/+32is it compatible with linux? not yet? never? danm u apple
- althe3rduww, on 10/11/2007, -8/+30Precisely, I am sad to see so many sheep trolling this thread with despair about the lack of 64bit xp or vista support. I am glad at least a few people here aren't clueless as to the tech world around them.
- DoomMusic, on 10/11/2007, -7/+27How are you supposed to watch YouTube videos on the iPhone with a slow connection? I'll bet it buffers for a while.
- thezero4, on 10/11/2007, -7/+25Sure when I installed 64 bit version of vista I knew I would loose out on a lot of legacy device support. Still this is a brand new piece of hardware. I mean most new devices now run in 64 bit. Even a lot of stuff that previously didn't run in 64 bit now runs on my machine. This really should have came with 64 bit support it's been out for a while.
- Ender0910, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21You're seriously blaming this on Microsoft?
Especially since now both Intel (Core 2 Duos) and AMD are pushing 64bit and RAM usage is on the rise... I don't see why Apple doesn't support 64bit. Why can't they just allow their x86 software to run on the 64bit OS's. - yensed, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19Vista was in public beta when the Zune came out.
- banj0, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17At this point, it's kinda hard to find things that don't work in x64. It's a good OS.
- fani, on 10/11/2007, -7/+21solice ? you mean solace...
- Yarnage, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15Due to the way comments are now laid out, no one will see that Smurf22 is an complete moron. Zune works perfectly fine on Vista 64-bit. In fact, I run Vista 64-bit and haven't found ANY incompatable software except iTunes' issues.
DIGG SMURF22 DOWN - LemmingJesus, on 10/11/2007, -4/+18Main Entry: tou·ché
Pronunciation: tü-'shA
Function: interjection
Etymology: French, from past participle of toucher to touch, from Old French tuchier
-- used to acknowledge a hit in fencing or the success or appropriateness of an argument, an accusation, or a witty point - pplude92, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15Sorry, Office 2k3 ran on my 64-bit vista machine fine, and 2k7 is optimized for 64.
- fjc8, on 10/11/2007, -9/+22"1. EDGE on the iphone is giving me speeds of 240kbps downloads, easily the same I was seeing on my 3g phone."
You're lying. 240kbps with EDGE is impossible with the iPhone's class 10 modem.
(download/upload, in kilobits per second - last number is number of download/upload timeslots)
EGPRS (EDGE) 236.8 59.2 (Class 8, 10 and MCS-9) 4+1
EGPRS (EDGE) 177.6 118.4 (Class 10 and MCS-9) 3+2
my Blackjack can be switched in between 3G and EDGE. I've been using EDGE since 2005 and even after this speed bump, pages take at least 2x longer to load on EDGE compared to HSDPA. Plus, when on 3G (which is always, as 3G coverage is everywhere I go), I can simultaneously transmit data and voice. So I can talk over Bluetooth while reading webpages, get new email during calls, etc.
Speed tests aren't very useful for comparing EDGE to EVDO or HSDPA as they don't say much about EDGE's biggest drawback: the latency. It makes any sort of interactive application (ssh, rdp, even aim or irc) a chore to use -- including the AJAX apps that are supposed to work on the iPhone.
"2. Most products are not compatible with 64 bit xp or vista, so get over it. You knew what you were getting yourself into when you bought the 64 bit version."
Most implies more than half. Even back in 2005, I was able to get almost everything running on 64-bit XP, including my iPod. Only an 8-year old scanner (that was already on its way out) didn't work. While I do not use 32-bit Windows on my client PCs as there are no advantages, 64 bit operating systems are the norm for servers nowadays. If something doesn't work on 64-bit Windows, it's becuase the software is poorly written or there is no 64-bit driver. End of story. - adolfojp, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Heh. You are blaming Microsoft for not making iPhone drivers. Heh.
- luken7, on 10/11/2007, -16/+29Oh this is just one of many, many products to not be supported or work on win/vista64. to include a list of Microsoft's own applications.
- parkermauney, on 10/11/2007, -5/+18You missed.
- shadowmoose, on 10/11/2007, -9/+21I have 64 bit windows and it pisses me off that companies don't take the time to create some simple drivers. Itunes doesn't work so I use a downgraded version of it and I'm never going to update my ipod because I finally got that working. That further encourages my hatred of macs.
- thailand1972, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15haters? How about simply normal people who are not buying the inordinate amount of hype.....
- althe3rduww, on 10/11/2007, -16/+27quite possibly the best answer I have ever heard to a very stupid question.
- archer75, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1132 bit apps do run on 64bit Vista. In fact I have yet to find a single 32bit app that doesn't work in 64bit vista.
- superkendall, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10You're kind of an idiot then aren't you if you just blindly tell them to get a 64-bit OS without consulting them on the software they need and use - sure iTunes isn't one of those things but there is other software that also does not like 64-bit Windows either.
- benanzo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12AT&T has no intention of upgrading their network. Why when this proves that there's millions of suckers out there willing to pay a premium for inferior service. It's called milking the cash-cow. They've been slowly milk the American consumer for years by claiming that bandwidth was *scarce* and severely over-pricing it. Why haven't they unleashed fiber yet? The entire infrastructure is in place...the US gov/tax payer has invested billions into that infrastructure and still they claim bandwidth is scarce and should cost a mint. *****. We need to start holding the FCC accountable for the corrupt deals they make with these pigs.
- thestorey, on 10/11/2007, -7/+16I was thinking it before i expanded and low and behold...
- HappyScrappy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11It's not the app that is the problem here. iTunes works. It's the drivers for the iPhone that won't work.
- Protoss, on 10/11/2007, -5/+14Reviews are saying theres almost no buffer time, probably because of the new h264 format, which makes the videos even smaller.
- archer75, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11For Vista anytime a driver is released for 32bit they must also release a 64bit driver. So Vista has the same 64bit support as the 32bit version. And more 64bit support than XP.
- darwin81, on 10/11/2007, -8/+17Amen.
- WhiteIce89, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10I can confirm what Yarnage says. I used 64-bit Vista for a while and though drivers for everything weren't up on launch day, they all were within a week or so for my hardware. And yes people do expect things to be compatible with 64-bit Vista because they ARE. Sorry but smurf22 is full of *****.
- JonForTheWin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Of coarse if they'd given us the specs needed to interface with the iPhone it would work on all operating systems on all architectures months before it came out.
- MioTheGreat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8You can't possibly expect a 32bit driver to work inside of a 64bit operating system. Nearly all applications work just fine, but drivers are a whole other story
...And Office runs beautifully on x64. - lozzd, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9I am running Vista Ultimate x64. All of my hardware worked out of the box, or by a driver automatically downloaded by Device Manager. (onboard sound, network cards, tv card, graphics cards, you get the point)
And I have no choice but to run 64bit, because I have 4gb of RAM. - GeekSwag, on 10/11/2007, -4/+11Jesus....you're old.
- EricTheGrey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Hardware drivers are the responsibility of the manufacturer, not Microsoft. How then is this a 'windows' problem?
EtG - cbuddha42, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7What are you talking about? Office works fine on 64-bit. I run 64-bit XP, and I have never had any issues. Plus, the application runs fine; Microsoft did a fine job making the 32bit software run.
- kcpwnsgman, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10Why is it a stupid question? EDGE is slow
- mushroom, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Yeah $129+$900=$1029 and thats the cheapest Apple computer you can get the imac, you lose
- windwaker, on 10/11/2007, -7/+13I still can't install Halo 2 on my 32-bit XP machine, so I think this is more than a fair trade off.
- PaulLev, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7you'd be surprised... :)
